FANTASIA MADE HER “COLOR PURPLE” DEBUT ON BROADWAY LAST NIGHT

Fantasia debuted on stage as the character Celie in The Color Purple at the Broadway Theater in New York City last night. Celie’s big final song “I’m Here” has brought studio audiences to tears both on Fantasia’s career launching pad American Idol and The Oprah Winfrey Show. Winfrey, who is executive producer of The Color Purple, she was “honored” to have Fantasia be cast member.

I’ve been looking for some reviews online, but I couldn’t find anything. Telling by the pictures, she probably killed it. Do your thing girl!

    Thank you, SO THAT DIVA!

Tasia looks like she had to gain a few pounds to play this part! Beyonce’ had to do just the opposite, she lost weight for her part in “DreamGirls”! She has provided such a strong foundation for all the new comers!

  17. hood_shit

Can’t say that I’m really a fan but I’m extremely proud of homegirl.

I don’t normally use this phrase but i have to say; Fantasia was born for this role. I truly believe this will be the making of her & i couldn’t be more proud and happy for her. Hopefully with her American Idol audience she’ll be able to draw some white folks in to see how we blacks do the damn thing! GO TASIA!!!!!!

Even though she has never been pleasing to my eyes or to my ears she is pleasing to my mind she has overcome so much and no hater can take that away from her. Go Girl!

Because people ALWAYS have something negative to say about somebody and we are more proud of her accomplishments than what she looks like. Out of all the positive things you can say about her, you’re gonna talk about her reading skills and how she looks? Get a life!

  32. Dauphiné

She sure do look tore up! Well, that is what the part calls for anyway. Good luck Fanatasia.

  33. Amaya

That’s a good look ! Go Fantasia! Damn the mere mention of Beyonce name get ppls panties in a bunch, even the so call non stans …lmao

  34. Shalice

Well, I don’t really like Fantasia’s voice and I was not too pleased when I heard that she could not read. (is that true?) But, I have to say that it is nice to see her come up. I hope she is doing the right thing with her income, such as saving or even investing in something, like her EDUCATION if what I have heard about her not being able to read is true. In the type of business that she is in, she needs to be able to read contracts and other important documents that control her money and future. I would love to see her on a college stage receiving her degree in something… anything. But so far, she appears to be on the right track. For those who have something to say about her looks, at least she has not pulled a Lil Kim on us. (although,I like Kim). Fantasia has not gotten new breast, or a new nose or cheek implants, Blonde hair (wigs, weave) need I go on. At least so far, what we see is what she was born with.

  35. joeinmemphis

I am so damn proud of this girl! just to think her whole life changed cause she didn’t give up. She was blessed and is still blessed. She is an inspiration to me. Much love to you Fantasia Barrino!

  36. mildredY

OMG she is the bomb!!!!! I love Fantasia so…lololol

  37. heartBREAKER

    Go head Tasia!

  38. Daphine

    Go Fantasia!

For the people who keep bringing up the fact that she can not read, don’t blame her, balme her school district. Fantasia didn’t drop out untill the 9th grade, somebody let her pass from grade to grade knowing she couldn’t read.

    If it’s true.

  39. clarkthink

    makeup…..what makeup.

  40. Just Had to Say

    @ Shalice: She can read.

According to someone on broadwayworld.com, critcs wait until a least a week before they review “newcomers”. In the meantime the reviews from people who have attended have been like this one:

    From ATC…

From the moment she walked on stage, the cheering began, and you knew that the entire audience was supporting her every step of the way. In terms of learning the role, which everyone said would be so tough for her, she was flawless. Every note, line, and movement was spot on. Not only that, but they were all character-driven and moving. She nailed every laugh, and was completely believable as Celie. The tears poured down her face in the emotional moments of the show, and the singing was beautiful and controlled in a way I had never heard her sing before. Her big song near the end of Act 2, “I’m Here,” stopped the show, and much of the audience rose at that point to give her a standing ovation. When she came out to bow, the entire theater erupted, and as Fantasia broke down crying, the noise from the crowd was deafening. Alton White, who plays “Mister,” handed her a bouquet of flowers, and she gallantly led the cast in a rousing reprise of the title song.
This was a magical evening in the theater. Fantasia’s performance not only surpassed all expectations, but ranks right up there as one of the most glorious performances I have ever seen in a Broadway musical. And, trust me, I’ve seen a lot.

  43. They interviewed and showed of Ms Tasia’s performance on ET, and she looked and sounded so good!!! I am so happy for her!

  44. Neesh

You gotta love her, and her spirit! She’s blessed beyond measure and I wish I could see her. I’m here is a great song, it brought me to tears!

  45. fanfan

Well, I was at the show last night and Fantasia was magical in the role. I saw the play with Kenita in the role of Celie. Fantasia blew it out of the water. She brought the character of Celie to life. She is just what this charater needed- heart and soul. And not to mention impeccable singing and acting too. Her voice was stunning. Absoulutely breathtaking. Props to my girl Tasia!

  46. devilicious

    She looks like Oprah.

  47. Black and Proud

Why aren’t some of you just proud of a sister for doing her thing? It it that hard for someone to get props after what she been through,or anybody for that fact.Oh please lets not talk about B, she had her day last week.Fantasia don’t look that bad.She is not ugly to me, if you can point that out to me, let me know because the woman is good.Go Tasia keep the people talking because you know thats all they do!

  48. Asentha

Personally, I don’t think she can sing a lick. Plus, she could use a makeover. However, good luck to her.

  49. Fantasia is doing the damn thang!I wish i could see the play,I bet she did a great job.

  50. jb

loved this girl, do ur thang, i can’t wait to see u babygurl

  51. Victoria

Fantasia was awesome last night. I enjoyed her so much as Celie. Say what you want about her but the crowd was packed last night..and she sounded AMAZING…I was like damn that girl can sing…and she nailed the acting. Plus she sold 6.5 million in tickets before she even started in the play..so she is doing the damn thing. Give props when it is due…Fantasia got it!

  53. nitt

I am so happy for Fantasia and I pray that she continue to be successful. I hope that she get the rest that see need. I love her CD when I see u is
    hot.

  54. Miss Tiff

I saw her sing ‘I’m Here’ on American Idol and Oprah. If you seen her sing that song you wanted tickets. She injected the energy in those words where you just couldn’t help but be proud of her and feel she was the best one for the part.

  55. dee
