FANTASIA MADE HER “COLOR PURPLE” DEBUT ON BROADWAY LAST NIGHT

Fantasia debuted on stage as the character Celie in The Color Purple at the Broadway Theater in New York City last night. Celie’s big final song “I’m Here” has brought studio audiences to tears both on Fantasia’s career launching pad American Idol and The Oprah Winfrey Show. Winfrey, who is executive producer of The Color Purple, she was “honored” to have Fantasia be cast member.

I’ve been looking for some reviews online, but I couldn’t find anything. Telling by the pictures, she probably killed it. Do your thing girl!

Personally, I don’t think she can sing a lick. Plus, she could use a makeover. However, good luck to her.

That face of yours could use a makeover too. With all the success she has you have to talk about some make over? Please.

  2. Tahiyya

i’m proud of her. do your thang girly.

  4. PAT

    i have to see this
i do think she was born to play this role
she puts so much heart and soul into it from the performances i’ve seen….she’s anointed to sing

Tashia is doing her thing. Love her and hope that she continues to shine. I bet the haters felt stoopid when they saw that she can act as well as sing. Yes acting would mean that she had to read the part and absorb it in order to act it out in the play.

    Go Girl!!!!!

they really didn’t need to put that mole on her face in an attempt to make her ugly

    That’s not a mole, it’s a microphone

How can she not “sing a lick” but landed this role on BROADWAY and beat out THOUSANDS of people to win American Idol? Please answer me that because that doesn’t sound like someone who can’t sing a lick. You really have some high standards. Who, in your opinion, CAN sing?

  9. Dang I wish I had the opportunity to see the play! I know she probably did a great job

  10. Fantasia We cheering for ya girl!! you have it & pitty the fool who can’t see it.

  11. Kat

Hey I saw the show with Fantasia, and I thought she was wonderful as a broadway star. She deserves all the positive comments she recieves!!

#18 and #52.. I totally agree with you. I personally think she sounds like a cat on a hot tin roof and looks like a ghetto Miss Piggy… And that’s not hating but seeing her around in Charlotte with brown gel slicking her whole head down and tacky outfits.. I’m sorry, she’s got a real nice salon here and you would think she would be a walking billboard for them..

She has a voice like Lil Mo and Coko from SWV..it has to be taken in small doses or my ears start bleeding.

Miss Tasia looks like she worked that audience!
    Brave-o, Fantasia, brave-o! BRAVE-O!

Congratulations to Fantasia. IMO, she’s the best thing that ever came out of American Idol (yes, better than Kelly). She’s crazy talented and I love her to death!

Because people ALWAYS have something negative to say about somebody and we are more proud of her accomplishments than what she looks like. Out of all the positive things you can say about her, you’re gonna talk about her reading skills and how she looks? Get a life!

OK that explains it. see I could care less about what shes done and her music is horrible to me. So theres not a lot of positive things I can say about her. Just because shes famous doesn’t mean that she should be exempt from learning how to read her own damn language. And it looks like we both need to get a life because we’re both on CL “getting our gossip on.”

I was there for opening night. She did an AMAZING job. I was nervous about her acting coming into the play…but to my surprise, TASIA KILLED IT!!! Her acting and singing were both perfect. I will be back to see it again…and again…

#79 are you stupid or something….how many damn times to people have to tell ignorant asses like you that Fantasia can fuckin* read.

Damn that is so old by now and if you think she is horrible why you in hear looking and reading about her big night on Broadway?

  23. #81 I so agree with you. The reding thang has gotten old and if she wouldnt have come out and said it they wouldnt even kow it so the jokes on them. Tasia has so much natural beauty!! Flawless skin, she dosent need all that makeup to make her beautiful she is so beautiful onthe inside it glows on the outside. I am so proud of her. Tasia do your thang Mama!!!

  24. elijah

I must be the number one atypical Fantasia fan. There can’t be many white 58 years old disabled Brits in her fan-club. Color Purple has real personal meaning in my family. If more than one of us watches the DVD together, it’s a guaranteed blub-fest. Fantasia has personal connection with Color Purple also, and that’s not always a recipe for success. Seems like she carried it off, so well done Fantasia. I hope we can add a DVD of the show to our fledgling Fantasia collection, I’ll never get to a theatre again. One negative: I hope Fantasia can lose the pounds she’s put on. Her CDs show her as a tall, beautiful, statuesque woman, and in my mind that’s how I see her. Go Fantasia!

  26. Hight School student BIGEST FAN

Fantasia, if you only known how much I look up to you.I listen to you CD everyday i am alway song all your song. One day I hope I can meet you. You are doing a great job of not leting people put you down. I hope some day I can become singer and and when i do you will be the first person i look up…
PS. your biggest fan Ms. Juicy

  27. For all the “losers” out there who call her a pitbull and putting her down because she can’t read….y’all are jealous. Hers is a beauty you could only dream about. be happy for the girl. she struggled and persevered and came out on top, At least she’s not on welfare. Go see the show and then make your comments. I have seen it 5 times and every time she brings the audience to tears!! SHAME on you all who just can’t stand seeing a successful Black woman who doesn’t need some man’s sorry ass to take care of her!!!

  28. Jennifer

I was very disappointed in the show. When I went to see Fantasia in August, coming from Tupelo, MS just to see her she was sick on the night I went. I did not enjoy the show at all. I was three seats from the stage and all I was thinking about was Fantasia is not here. Very disappointing.
