IMUS CALLS GIRL’S BBALL TEAM “NAPPY HEADED HOES”

I’m sorry if I’m kind of late with posting this, but I was waiting until I got some audio on what this fool said, so everyone could hear it for themselves. Here is the run down:

Last week radio/tv host, Don Imus got a little too comfortable while commentating on an NCAA basketball game. The old cracker probably hit the bottle a little too hard before it went live, and couldn’t control his natural instincts. Watch the video to see what he said and discuss.

I think this whole incident shows how far we still have to go in the black community. I feel kind of responsible some of this shit. CL was starting to ride that fucked up train of seperation, but I’m not going to do it anymore. I just wanted to say that I apologize to everyone if I offended them in anyway and that we need to start changing our ways or we will never prosper.

when is it ok for a RICAN do say that on a song that is heard world wide?

  2. I’m going to have to agree a lot of this is our doing. We call our women bitches and hoes have them on videos looking shaking and grinding get them pregnant and leave them. YEARS ago black people were for each other now that we tear each other apart every chance we get other races think they dont respect each other so why should I respect them. THIS SHOULD BE A WAKE UP CALL FOR US LOOK HOW THEY ARE DISRESPECTING US WITHOUT A SECOND THOUGHT

  6. billionheiress

white people are just ignorant thats all. obviously the comment was inappropriate and he should be fined or fired however CL this comment:

“The old CRACKER probably hit the bottle a little too hard before it went live”

is equally inappropriate and we souldn’t stoop to ignorant people’s levels by calling names. its tacky. we have more class than that.

  7. maya01

Respect ourselves and maybe other races will do the same !! Dont get on this blog and type a four page letter of concren and tommorrow call another person of color ever name under the sun b/c you cant see eye to eye on Beyonce ! I dont get it its ok to disrespect each other b/c we are from the same breed but when someone else do you get upset? People lead by example !

  8. Confucius

#3 put it in a nutshell.

  9. Chasity

He has a lot of nerve calling anyone’s hair nappy!!!!

  10. Here we go again with another ignorant ass whitey talking shit.

  11. Marie

I’m shocked this topic does not have at least 12 pages with people upset with the white radio figure calling black women on a basket ball team “Nappy headed hoes”…But I forgot this topic is not that important as one about Beyonce hair weave or the next blind item of the day. One thing is for sure “Ignorance is bliss for many in the black race”…

  12. BabyP

#89. I’m not actually surprised that you’re refusing to stand up for yourself, america has taught black people/young people/women that complacency is their place; so I had a sad smile when I read your comment. But since you refuse to stand for anything, I do sincerely hope you kindly shut all the talking up and never complain about any racist/sexist/otherwise derogatory marks towards you.
Off course Don Imus’ (who easily reaches over 2 million americans in each broadcast, that will never have an actual interaction with black people to know that we come in all types) words don’t affect you or yourz. I mean he’s only influencing 2 million people who will now attribute nappy headedness and hoing to every black woman they meet, yes even the hiring manager for your dream job, or that loan officer that can finance your business… so I see how his words don’t affect you or yours.

WAKE THE HELL UP BLACK AMERICA!
This is why mexicans can shut shit down when they start talking that immigration nonsense, they understand their power is in their one unified voice… that doesn’t prevent them from referring to each other in derogatory terms; they just make sure nobody else can do the same.
Black America quit being myopic and self-centered, the world doesn’t revolve around you or your oh so small sphere. Stand up for yourself and those who look like you and see how you can affect change for yourself and your future generations.

  13. Quiche-A

@118 Judah: “He’ll also set up influential black lesbians like Condoleeza Rice, Whoopi Goldberg, and Oprah to puff up black women to think that they’re going to leave balck men behind, lol”

Judah, you a damn trip! I agree with you though!

  14. DIAMOND PRNCESS

This ugly motherfucka needs his ass whipped and so do the ones who think it’s no big deal.

  15. SassyTeri

When are we going to stop the madness? How come we tolerate worse things we say about each other? Let’s take for instance what we say right here on CL (let’s recall how we diss Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, other bloggers on CL, etc). Why are we getting so emotional? Do not get me wrong. I’m not saying what Don Imus or anyone else should say disparaging things about us or anyone (it’s wrong in EVERY sense and I am NOT excusing Imus) but they do. Shouldn’t we hold each other accountable (as well as not support rappers who say the same things – or worse – sans the “nappy headed” comment. Let’s watch what comes out of our mouths about each other. We are not responsible for what people say about us.

Oh and by the way, does anyone remember when Eminem called black women the “B” word? I don’t recall hearing a peep from the black community – I could be wrong. We have been messed up since slavery because of our own self-hatred (light skinned vs. dark skinned mess or good hair vs. bad hair).

  16. PYT124

Okay where Im from they were talking about this on the morning show and everybody was calling in mad and whatnot. Then one lady called in and was trying to be understanding like the man didnt know what he was and asked why are we getting upset with this man when rappers do it ALL the time? Another person called and said people dont seem to care when its a dope booty shaking beat behind the lyrics. She said we women are like he aint talking about me cuz Im not a Nappy Headed Hoe. So they put a good beat behind the mans comments and mixed it, sure enough everybody was calling in like you right its not as bad when you hear it like that!!! This is an example of some of our mentality.

  17. This Dude

If we want other races to stop disrespecting our black heritage, then we have to stop disrespecting ourselves. We are the only race that calls one another the same name that represented something so patheticly low. We show no love to our women. Other races do it because we do it to ourselves.

I am not saying that Don Imus’s actions are acceptable because only he controls what he says and yes that was outta line, but saying racial slurs back towards white people is the same racial discrimination as what he did. RACISM IS RACISM!!!

  18. devilicious

    Condoleeza’s a lesbian??

  19. samantha

    that’s a damn shame

  20. We need to stop allowing black women to be disrespected by these ignorant ass rappers. We can’t really be outraged about what Imus said, but not just as outraged when Snoop or 50 says the same thing.

  21. yes

I’m wit 4 & 6. How I live my life in the black community has nothing to do with what he said. He is responsible for that. He is a grown ass wrinkled man.

  22. Lol, this does not surpise me one bit. I come from West Texas and it is extremely racist here! As a matter of fact, there was a KKK march here against the mexicans when all the drama about illegal immagration was going on!!! I was so disgusted by it!!!

White people always say the most ignorant things to me all the time! When I was in college they always asked me what sport I played, (because of course the only way that black people can attend college is because of a sports scholarship) PUH-LEASE! They were always shocked to find out that I was actually there because of hard work and good grades!

I have been called the N word among other things more than once growing up! No one believes that I don’t nor have I ever worn a weave, they always say “I didn’t know that black girl’s hair could be that long or look like that!” They are always so surprised when you don’t speak illiterately, saying things like “Wow, you speak so well” etc. So I can completely understand what some of you guys are talking about!!!

The thing that gets me the most is the fact that most white people feel that racism no longer exists! We would have countless debates about this in some of my classes, and they would say things like “Why do black people get to have a month?” “Why do black people get to have their own colleges and universities?” “If we did that everyone would be outraged!”

You just don’t know how bad I wanted to curse some of those ignorant kids off! To answer their questions I would always say “We have a month because that is the only time that you ever hear about black achievements and we had to create our own colleges and universities because at one time we weren’t allowed to attend the (at that time) all white universities, so we had to start our own!

Anyway I have said more than enough, lol! I know that not all white people are as ignorant as this pitiful fool! It is just a shame that it is 2007 and we still have to deal with this mess!!!

  23. BRU-KNOW

It ain’t no big deal, you could’ve saved all that whyning and crying for something much worse.

  25. SassyTeri

I just read on another entertainment website that they are suspending his show for two weeks beginning April 16.

  26. Woode29

Oh grow up people..stop being so damn hyper-sensitive.. I seriously doubt many of you even listen to Imus.. He’s entitled to his opinion just like anyone else..

  27. cake

i swear some of yall need a country mile kicked up your asses

  28. How dare Imus call girls with nappy sweaty heads “nappy heads” and make fun of their tatooed skinned by saying “they have tatoo’s”? And the gall he has quoting lines to a Spike Lee movie (words that Imus didn’t make up)? I mean yeah the girls from Tennesse (who were also black) did look better, and he said as much, but this MUST be racism. I mean making jokes about some rough lookin girls (also known as telling the truth) must mean he’s racist. I mean not one of us has ever thought they’re some mannish lookin girls.

You sensitive bitches! I mean, if only it was a rapper saying all this, you’d by his album and bump it in your car! Oh wait a minute, rappers say things 10 times more degrading and we say it’s part of the culture.

Somebody should be more mad at ol’ Al and Jesse getting their spotlight everytime the work “racist” is uttered. Do you know neither one of those negros has ever had a job!

  29. Black and Proud

Since when did black people start calling themselves jiggaboos?Do you people know what that is?Very racist. Not all black people call people hoes and niggas, get that straight, you generalizing your damn self!We still a slave to our own race, smh.

  30. Black and Proud

    Judah, good point.

  31. yeahwhat?

That was so hursh, damn in America you can get away with crap like that, here in England (although there is racism) He wouldnt have gotten away with that comment esp when its a big audience watching and listening, Just totally out of line. Black people hold your head up high, you are beautiful , blessed and talented,I am proud to be one of you and I love you.

  32. ZV

Our so-called “Black Leaders” are lacking, remember when Jesse Jackson called a Jewish part of NY “Hymie Town”? Or Al Sharpton reppin Tawana Brawley?? Or us as Blacks calling our own women “sluts” and “ho’s” and ourselves “nigga’s”? On the news they called both out for their past racial comments against WHITES, so we have no room to talk, Blacks are our own worst enemy as Imus isn’t the problem. Howard Stern has said much worse.

  33. 144. txsupercutie said:

I agree! They never seem to understand those things. What I love is that when you try to explain it to them they don’t EVER want to hear what you have to say.

Apparently, the trend seems to be that whites are getting as comfortable calling us out as they were before the civil rights movement. I’m old enough to remember to remember a period of time when that word wouldn’t dare be spoken by someone not of color, but alas, the blame falls to some of us who are under the misguided impression that by calling each other the n-word and claiming to desensitize the word, referring women as bitches and ho’s….well, I’m not breaking any new ground here; you know the rest…no wonder whites and others are getting comfy with these terms.

WE USE THEM AS TERMS OF ENDEARMENT!!!!!!

WE CANNOT HAVE IT BOTH WAYS.

The old adage “You Are What You Eat” rings so true, y’all. I think if we are going to embrace these terms and stereotypes, then we’ll always have this dialoge back and forth as to whether who has the right to use them.

Imus was indeed wrong for what he said, and as in my previous post, should truly be roasted alive for it. But ask yourself if it’s truly as offensive as the shit that passes for “comedy” on the black am morning programs? So, I say, roast them all, and as for black radio, which I’ll admit I don’t listen to much at all (too much payola, not enough musical variety or content) add some damn intelligence and useful information to go along with all the so-called “entertainment”.

    Just an opinion…………

  35. BAM BAM

    damn, too many typos…….

  36. Jqueen

Esh01: After all this and you STILL called your own “sensitive bitches”?

You kids are just not getting it….[shakes head].

This is what I’m talking about when I said “Start with yourself.” After today, no one one this board should be calling anyone, celebrity or otherwise, a “bitch”, “hoe” or any degrading language. And if someone does use it, EVERYONE needs to check ‘em. Yes, this is a blog and we’re entitled to post our thoughts on threads, but you can do that without the name-calling…..

As I said in my earlier post, Imus didn’t get fired. He got two weeks. But, also, NO ONE has commented on the fact that Imus said, “Rappers call black women that all the time…”

Don’t you realize this is where he got it from? The so-called hip-hop that most of you swear by? Do you now believe, as a poster said earlier, that white people are truly forming their opinions of black women by the words and images these rappers are putting out?

GET YOUR MINDS RIGHT, BABIES. Ladies, start demanding better treatment and CLOTHES in videos. No one is saying you can’t have a job being in a video, but have some respect and standards about what you’re doing. Be willing to lose a little money to gain some self-respect and respect from others. The world is too big to limit your earning power to whether or not some broke rapper decides to put you in his video.

“If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything” and too many of you are allowing yourselves to be brainwashed into being too afraid to stand up for yourselves and what’s right in the Black Community.

Wake up and learn to think for yourselves. Question everything. And above all else, open your hearts and allow God back in. We need him more than ever.

  37. KoKa-touch

No one seems to like Black people. Whether they are asian, white, middle-eastern, or even “hispanic”- some black hispanics have something againt black women even though they look just like us. Sometimes in my heart I think GOD must have something good for us. Because we are forced to undergo all of this hatred, no matter what we do to further our education and economic status- every body wants to get together and humiliate us.

  38. Woode29

ESH01.. great minds think alike! Unfortunately our so called black leaders are nothing more than poverty pimps.

  39. ZV

@KoKa-touch, your right about that and it’s a very sad issue. I can’t think of a more hated race than us, even though ALL races try to emulate our music and style, they still hate the people.

  40. I didn’t read all the comments and this here comment is unacceptable.

But we need to admit that this “okay to call them nigga and bitch” mentality started when we started having black men and black women using hoe/bitch and nigga as words of endearment, in front of THE WORLD to make matters worse. And it’s a SAD DAY when you’re told by some blacks that you’re too sensitive for not accepting your community to be disrespected. Our mentality is sorry.

The bottomline is this : it all starts with OURSELVES. We have to be the example of how others must treat us. You want to be treated right by others, TREAT YOURSELF RIGHT. You want the world to respect your community, TREAT YOUR COMMUNITY WITH RESPECT.

If you call your woman “my bitch”, your friends or boyfriends “my nigga” don’t expect others not to use it. I’m not saying they should get a pass, because they’re not part of the community, but that poison that says the N & B words are cool has entered the “collective subconscous” aka public opinions because WE SHOWED THEM by the way we treat and call ourselves and each other.

Look at how you treat your own.

  41. LaKevin

Don Imus should be fired. White folks at least owe me that! I’ve been putting up with being black all my life. It’s not OK for Don Imus to say “nappy-headed hoes,” but it’s certainly OK for me n’ my crew to be usin’ that kind of talk to go out and mack on dem bitchez…yeah know what i mean. stay up playa. down with imus

  42. she's clever

I agree 100% with Angel.la’s original comment. He let hsi Natural Instinct come out. It had nothing to do with whether these women’s hair was actually nappy, or their sexual behavior. Instinctively, this man does not care for and has no respect for Black people. He used the first derogatory comment that came to his mind, whether applicable or not. And if it hadn’t been ‘Nappy-headed’ hoes it would’ve been something else.

TRUE, it’s not okay when we use it. But even if, and when we do use that particular term, – WRONG AS IT IS- it is in a different context, it has some relevance to who and what we are discussing. His comment was completely random, and out of hatred. And in truth, he represents the sentiment of the majority of those who look like him that we encounter every day. Remember that!

  43. LOL @ All of you STUPID RACISTS.

    Wow.

What a bunch of hypocritical people. (not everyone) Sad to say, though, that alot black people I know are like this. To those of you saying “cracker” in your posts, you’re no better than the “crusty old cracker” himself.

(Not to mention, though, that you’re calling him your slave master when doing so.)

I was browsing Google when I came across this, and it makes me sick to read some of these comments.

  44. Vicky30

Even though I don’t approve of Imus’s comments, blacks are just as racist when they insult or poke fun at other ethnic groups. So you actually co-sign on such behavior as this when you often mock or mimick asians, caucasions, spanish, etc. Racism is wrong regardless of who it’s coming from. It’s easy for whites to insult us when they hear us insulting them and other ethnic groups through comedy, conversation, etc. To them, this behavior makes it ok, as well as blacks degrading themselves with the “N” word and other derogatories .I’m bi-racial and have experienced severe racism within the black community and therefore believe that racism can end and begin with any and all of us. Think before you speak.

  45. Cassy

To Diamond Princess i don’t need my ass whoop just becuz i don’t think his remark’s r racist. To be truthful i don’t think it’s racist at all i think it’s sexiest.I could care least becuz he wasn’t tlkin 2 me he waz tlkin bout the girl team. which i do think is sexiest. And oh yeah that night i was watching the game and those girl’s didn’t had no perm’s in their hair.
