Now that’s what I’m talking about, get that free education man. I wish Lil Romeo the best, he’s serving a great example right now. So if you ask me if he’s better than Bow Wow, then I’ll say - HELL YES (don’t ask me lyrically though because I could care less about their music).
I had no idea he was 5′11, Lil Romeo ain’t all that little!

Alright now ROMEO! It’s good to see him doing so well. He’s getting an education & making his own money. If you ask me, Mater P did a damn good job raising the boy.
I’m happy for him. And he’s a lil’ cutie!
NOW, I hope he doesn’t let some silly lil’ Juliet trap him & get a future settlement of half his earnings. (*smh* at Juanita Jordan)

Master P knows how to hustle hard. He still got money and his rap thing going on when he was kicked out from Bay area and now his son doing good.
Well regarding height i think romeo grew in last couple of years as you can see from pic, master P is like 6.3-4″ . So Romeo could be 5.11″s. Which is not bad considering studio gangsta(Bow Wow).
Good luck Romeo for your college.

Trust me, USC will get there money’s worth. And don’t think the Development team will not be hittin’ up Mr. Master P. for donations in the future.
Let’s just hope that the focus is not so much on Romeo the star athlete but the star athlete student.
Too many of our college male African American athletes (Bball and Football) are really not academically inclined and see college as a stopover til eligibility for the pros. But I’m sure coming from Hollywood High, he’s no joke intellectually.

For those who are wondering why Lil’ Romeo accepted the full scholarship… If you had several universities recruiting you, wouldn’t you go with the one offering you a full ride? Do you really expect him to be like, “I know you’re offering me free tuition, room and board, but naaah, I’d rather pay.” Ha! Yeah right! I’m sure they know he can afford it, but hell they must have really wanted him so they had to entice him with the sweetest deal. And I think he made the right choice!

Don’t think it’s a game. Master P has to make sure Romeo knows that you always have to have a back up plan. You got to give it to him, P is a great entrepreneur. School is way more important than the rap game. Just because you came from the hood, that doesn’t mean you are obligated to stay there. Make something out of yourself.
And I think Romeo really may be that tall. Hell look at P, Silk and C. It’s in his genes.
Good luck to you Romeo! I love to see black males getting their education!

What will his major be? All athletes at my school majored in criminology….give me something different

V to DA A , I totally agree. College is very expensive, so who would not take a full scholarship when being recruited to play ball? That’s why the rich stay rich….they are always looking for ways to keep their own money in their pockets. There are enough basketball scholarships to go around to needy ball players. Trust me.
Now I must say that I am very proud of this kid. He made alot of smart career moves from kiddie rap to Nickoloeon(sp?) which brought him a cross-over fan base to going to a top college on a full scholarship.
Very good job Master P.

Tuesday, April 17, 2007 /
He is actually good though. Even if he wasnt Master P’s son I still think he would have gotten a full b-ball scholarship to damn near anywhere he wanted to.
Its not like his rap career is doing too great now anyway so hell…why not? College helps you mature in a way that no where else could. I see the difference between me and my friends that did didnt go to college. I just hopes he attempts to live a normal college life as in actually doing his homework and living in a dorm for at least the first year.

Doesn't Romeo have money already?
Tuesday, April 17, 2007 /
Doesn’t Romeo already have millions in the bank? Why does he need a scholarship then? He should pay for his own tution and give the scholarship to someone who actually needs that money for school. All that talk about how much money you have and yet your taking a full scholarship?!? There’s someone who is probably very intelligent who wants to go to that school but can’t because they can’t afford it. I’m not hating on him, in fact I’m glad to see a “rapper” get post secondary education, I just don’t think he needs the scholarship. Good for him tho…

I totally agree. I am very happy that Master P has been very involved in his son’s life and has tried to ground him. No one can ever take away Romeo’s education but a rap or tv career can fizzle with a quickness.
Also, he is naturally gifted in athletics and I assume intellectually gifted as well so why shouldn’t he get a full ride to college. I just hope his dad warns him about the folly of college partying. Know when to study and when to have fun but not too much fun.
Go Romeo!

I don`t see what the big deal is. He hasn`t really achieved anything as far as his music career goes, so he might as well go to college. And with all that money his family has, they need to PAY for that education and give the full ride to another person who may be in need of financial assistance to go to school. There is nothing special about this.
And I find it funny how Bow was brought up once again. He just turned 20 and I`m sure he is set. He`s doing what he does and he`s been doing it for a long time. Check the numbers =)

I am so shocked by the negative comments. I can only hope they are not coming from black people!
As well, how is this boy taking a scholarship from someone else? The school had to evaluate who should be offered one, I am pretty damn sure they know Romeo and his daddy are rich as hell. So THEY decided to give it to him and I don’t blame them for taking it.
Furthermore the scholarship is obviously from the Athletic department not a damn academic dept.

What impresses me is the fact that Romeo must have been at least decent in the classroom as well. Going to a tough school like Beverly Hills High, getting the grades, and getting the SAT score necessary to play at the D-1 level. I have many friends out here in Cali, who aren’t totally dumb, who didn’t get the SAt score to play ball, and had to start out at community college.
To all those that was saying last week that Master P was the broke rapper, guess again. If Romeo was balling at Beverly Hills High, they were alright.
Also, Romeo is good, but if he wasnt famous, he would have gone to a lesser school like San Diego State, Hofstra, Houston, South Florida, Western Michigan, Rutgers, etc.

Ok I aint a bowow lover but why is romeo above bowow because he is gonna play ball at a good school? Im assuming that none of you are college educated or in college, cause at most schools (includin mines) most b-ball players dont give two funks about academics. Now Im not saying that romeo is automatically gonna be like them, but the majority ride through school with C averages and end up focusing on partying instead of studying.
And since when is college for everyone? Bowow has a CAREER, a successful on at that (well more than romeo) so he has no reason to slow down his momentum for a stint in college. Who knows he might be like ciara and go back to school when he is older, but if he doesnt I dont think he should be penalized for using a different path to success.

And so what he accepted the scholarship. If you were financially stable, would you honestly say “No, I’m much rather spend my own shit.” I sure as hell wouldn’t. Because college is expensive, no matter how you look at it.
And besides, he earned it. So Romeo just gained alot of respect from me. I hope he does well when he starts, and doesn’t get caught up in any bullshit.

Jessica u sound really dumb about Bow Wow has a career. Lets face it Bow wow raps about dumb things and that don’t make sense so people will get tired of him and watch him fall back. Just because you have a career doesn’t mean you cant go to school and educate yourself. It’s always good to have education no metetr what career your in. There are a lot of people who had good careers in music business but they all went down-hill so anything could happen. Look at Oprah she is a damn Billionare but she went to school didn’t she? Its about smart-ness not about a damn rap career that anyone could get sign to now days. Bow wow said he waisnt into college thing so its out there that the boy is dumb. The Same deal went for Reggie Bush but he wasnt rich. If you’re good you’re good, thats it, they will pay for you to go to school. Reggie made USC millions of dollars. That little hundred something thousand dollars they spent on him dont even compare to what they made off of him.

So what if Bow didn’t go to college. That’s a personal choice he made along with millions of other people. Contrary to popular belief college isn’t for everyone so if he decides it aint for him then so be it. Its good to have a back-up plan but does it necessarily have to be college? No. If it were based off his rap career alone bow wow would have NOTHING and he’s smart enough to know that. So in fact, he does have a back up plan, perhaps several. He wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth like Romeo. He had to work for all he has. He doesn’t have to go to the studio another day in his life if he doesn’t want to. Even though I never liked bow wow’s punk ass I have to respect how he’s taking control of his destiny. He’s only 20 years old looking into owning an NBA team. I’m telling you he’s set for life.

Everythin comes outta that kid’s mouth is dumb. And Romoe isnt going to school to play ball he is going to major in BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION. Atleast he is smart to make em A+ and B+
——————————————————
Who’s saying bowow cant go to college?! Like I said yall need to educate ya selves and realize that you can go to college ANYTIME you want, but you can only be hot in hollywood for so long. As long as bow is saving his money and investing I see nothing wrong with him forgoeing college in order to further his career….and YES he has a career. You may not like his music or lyrical content, but he is definetly a marginal success.
Besides some people dont like school settings and if that is bowow’s perogative then so be it. You dont know if he is learning on his own time or educating himself so you saying he is dumb is just as bad as me saying that romeo is gonna end up a D/C student.
Bowow has made enough money to where he should be set for life if he invests the right way, and considering that MOST college students are in school to make money and have careers….Its really ignorant to clown on bowow for not going to school since he already has what the average college student is striving for.

It is good to see he actually did what he said he was going to do a long time ago, he always mentioned he wanted to play college ball.
I played basketball for a D-1 school and I already know how the game goes for the men’s team when it comes to females. Seeing that Romeo is already a well known celebrity, he is going to get it BAD! But most likely he ia already prepared for all that.

College is not the only answer to being successful. Yes, it can help but it is not the only option. And college will always be there for anybody its not going anywhere…..so whether you go at 18 or 28 you can still get the same results when you go.

WHAT A JOKE PEOPLE! He isnt an ALL-AMERICAN - not even close! He was only offered a scholly by them because his teammate DeMar DeRozan is the top player on the team and #46 in the country for class of 2007-2008 and USC wanted HIM! Romeo went on a visit to USC with him and they offered them both since they are good friends. Romeo is a Division III player at best, not even in the top 100 for point guards. Its all for publicity for the school and program. check it out in USC basketball forum. http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=15#S=15

This is great to hear Romeo. You are definitely the smart kid I have always figured you were. & P I have to say, you are doing your thing with him & grooming him for the REAL world. I think its even more awesome that he is putting all of his music & commercial & tv roles on hold while he is in school. School is WAY more important than any other exploit because the sooner you get your education when you are younger the better off your life with be & the better you are able to handle life’s REAL situations. I love Bow Wow but I think now would be a good time for him to go too. He’s no dummy & it would only enhance his stance as a young up & coming male in the world AND it would serve as a reminder to these young fools out here that yes when you’re hot you are HOT, but when you are NOT always have a backup plan!!! Remember even the majority of NBA superstars HAVE degrees!!! (Shaquille O’neal has TWO)

While I agree that having a degree definetly doesnt hurt, I dont agree that you have to get one right after highschool. My dad has had a career for yrs without his degree (he just got it recently too) in computer programming so if you have connections or if you attend trade school you can definetly make something happen. Why people dont understand that bowow has a career already is beyond me.
I must give props to romeo tho because it can help young men aim for college, but I just wish he would have gotten an academic scholarship instead of the stereotyipcal sports one.

most people on here recognize the significance of romeo’s going to a prestigious college-which required him to use intellect and his physical ability to obtain that scholarship.
Most people go to college because they want to have the opportunity to earn more money than those who don’t have their “sheep skin” (grandpa called a college degree that, ole school, yall don’t know nothing bout that)
That says alot about romeo’s upbringing and character, congrat’s to master p and romeo!
Rap was just a hustle for both of these them, they obviously know that education is what’s most important and not just money-it’s quite apparent they already have that, that’s what makes this so significant-for those who don’t get it!

Second, for all of the people talking about him not going to school for an education, why else is he going to school. His father said Romeo was going to school when he was a little boy. Education should be applauded!! Jessica,
All those people you mentioned are actors. I think the people on this site must be really young because it seems like a large number of you believe that the only successful black people in this country are in the entertainment industry (athletes and musicians and actors). That’s not true!! Furthermore, the intellectual black community does not regard athletes or entertainers very highly, unless they are educated. That is why Master P sending his son to USC is significant, it shows that he understands the importance of an education and that with that education people will take his son seriously. As successful as Jay-z is he will never be taken as seriously as say, Reginald Lewis. (if you don’t know who that is i suggest you look him up)

This is GREAT NEWS! Its wonderful to see any young black man, pursuing higher education. I agree that it is not for everyone, but still nice to see that he is thinking beyond entertainment. Fame is often fleeting, and as surely as fans love you today they may hate you tommorow. You have to have something to fall back on when the records arent selling and the show ratings arent high. Education is a great thing to have ,whether your attending school on an athletic
or academic scholarship or attending with help of financiaal aid. I may not have been a huge fan of Master P’s music ,but I respect the mans legal hustle. He is an educated man who atteneed college and majored in business . He was a business man prior to making it as a rapper. He is a survivor! You have to be to come from where he came from( rough& poor section of Neworleans) and still manage to acheive so much for himself and his family! Obviously hes passign some of those good choices and business savy down to his sons. I respect the fact that he is putting his career as a rapper ,actor on hold to pursue excellence in basketball and academics. It goes to show that hes not 1 dimensional, and that he has what it takes to acheive more than just fame.
Also please stop makign comparisons between him and LIL BOW WOW. They are 2 different young men. Bow Wow seems to be doing well for himself also ,so lets not try to start shhyt unecessarily!

That comment was very dumb and ignorant. Why is it wrong for Romeo, who I heard gets straight A’s, to get a big scholarship when he worked just as hard as someone who doesn’t have much money? P Miller’s house got destroyed because of Hurricane Katrina, and he spent millions and millions on luxury, so we really don’t know how the Miller’s finances are right now.
I am so happy for this little fellow. I think me and him are the same age and he’s really a good role model for all these dumbass young boys who wanna smoke weed, don’t do work at school, and maybe luck out on becoming a rapper. Big ups to Romeo.

My advice to Romeo: It’s great to play ball but also get your education because when basketball fails, at least you’ll have an education to fall back on. Wish I could say the same for Bow Wow but I don’t him lasting for too much longer. His fans are growing up but unfortunately his skills ain’t. Plus, a rapper has only but so much shelf life. I agree with Jessica. College is not for everyone. Also, a college degree doesn’t necessarily get you as far as you think. Welcome to the real world. These days, it’s not what you know. It’s who you know. Take me for instance: I have a degree. IOn fact, I’m the only one in my department with a degree. Yet, my superior only has a GED. How’d he get his job? His father happens to be good friends with the CEO. Maybe it’s an isolated case…somehow I doubt it. I know of several people like myself who either have a degree and it doesn’t get them as far as they would have thought or just have that high school diploma/GED and are making twice what I make. I don’t know how anyone else feels. Quite frankly, I don’t care. A degree from college is just a piece of paper. Success oyut there in the real world is really what you make of it….and who you know.

ya’ll sound crazy talking about college is not for everyone. that’s something people want you to believe so that you’ll spend your life breaking your back or your spirit to do nothing more than get by. It’s one of those notions that the powers that be want you to hear/believe because in a capitalist society there is only so much room at the top. I learned that ish the hard way. ( and, jessicaspears, MJB is damned near illiterate - as much as I love her - so she was a bad example for you to use) There was a time when people used to say that highshcool wasn’t for everyone. It actually was not that long ago maybe 1 or 2 generations depending on your family. One or 2 generations from now people will stop saying that simple shyt about college too. We will never overstand if as a people we are largely uneducated as in comparison to the rest of American society not to mention the rest of the world where early education is mandatory and most citizens are bilingual. Keep that simple shyt up our race will continue to regress further and further. EVERYONE who has the means/opportunity to educate themselves should. The severe classism that exists in this country will soon make it so you can’t do anything but answer phones in a call center with out that paper.
hate to get preachy but that’s real. anyways . . I’m proud of Romeo and Percy because they set good examples for Black men. They have excelled in so many forums and still ahve not given up on education. Percy is a good role model for parents as well.

I love how people keep hyping Bow Wow up to something he’s not. Price of Fame, his current cd, has gone double wood now. The last album was a little better but what does it tell you when your biggest hits have come from other people being on your record…other [people who happen to be a little bit more popular than you (Omarion, Ciara, Chris Brown). Unless Bow Wow can step it up real hard next album, it’s a wrap.

To Esther: obviously, you’re in the wrong work environment. Either that or you just don’t have the drive to want more. To an extent I agree that the college degree is a sheet a paper but at the same time, you gotta make that sheet of paper work for you. You can’t just get that college diploma and expect for the job of your dreams or the position of your dreams to fall in your lap. I don’t know your situation but how hard did you fight to be a “superior” or even a job in the upper management? You seem bitter about those who don’t have the degree and are making more money than you. Maybe they have more motivation…maybe they’re putting themselves out there more tan you are. I don’t know but your post says to me that you were under this sad illusion that your degree was going to automatically open new doors of great oppurtunities for you. In a way, it does or it’s suppose to but you have to work just as hard for it. YOU have to go for yours. Your degree is just the icing on the cake.

Its cause parents push their kids into school because they figure “its the next step” when in fact that kid has no desire to go to a 4 yr university. Some of you think that College is not for everyone, I would have agreed with you five years ago when I graduated high school but the truth is employers want you to have a degree they don’t care what it’s in they want you to have at least a BA. I hated school but I must say I learned more in college than I did in high school. Right now employer’s are saying at the least a BA, in a minute they go be saying Mater’s preferred!

He must have just COMMITTED to USC, because it is against NCAA rules to sign before your senior year. He will probably sign in the fall.
That is good for him, Hopefully, OJ Mayo wont still be there, cuz he will be right on that bench.

Well You can tell who did or didn’t go to college…
haha
gosh..damn grow up
Congrats to lil romeo
he’s nothing like bow wow
what does music have to do with this?
record sells aren’t everything
bow wow’s cds don’t do all that great either
especially that last one he put out
he doesn’t even write his own material. JD and TI do.
True…
you dont have to go to college to be a success but it really helps.
You’re more likely to do something with your life with a degree.
I’ll rather have a degree any day than just sitting and wishing i could be an “actress”
why can’t black ppl keep the negative comments to themselves?
shouldn’t this have been a positive post?
nope…
someone always has to be negative
because their life is full of negativity….
Master P and Romeo are worth 300 million dollars
how much are you worth since you’re wasting your time downing him? He could probably have your ass killed but u don’t mean anything to him.

For all of the people saying college isn’t for everyone did you go nad did you apply yourself? College is what you make it. Pick a major/field that you love. College is one of the best experiences in life. I think this would be a great experience for Romeo. He’ll meet people of different backgrounds he normally wouldn’t associate with. College is much more than an education it’s life experience. And it buys you some time before “THE REAL WORLD”, LOL!!!!!

For those of you that question him taking the scholarship: Did you know that Denzel’s son went to college on a scholarship? Denzel refused it and ask the school to give it to a more deserving (less fortunate) kid. The school told him that the scholarship was not for HIM but for his SON. His son deserved it, so why not let him use it?

i’m really happy for romeo,it looks like master p and his wife did a good job of raising their son,no matter how much money your making all ready, it pays to have some knowledge and education. i knew romeo was good at basketball, he took after his daddy i knew it was just a matter of time before he started balling, i think he’ll make it to the pro’s next so anyway i say congratulations to him,and good luck on everything. i hope he doesn’t let anything stop him or get in the way of him reaching his goals.

Who would he be “taking” a scholarship from? This happens all the time for academically superior students from the top 10% tax bracket in the nation. If the students have the grades and test scores, they can certainly be assured significant scholarships to top research universities in the country. USC is no joke of a school, the largest private employer in LA, and boasts excellent faculty, academics, etc. He is not taking a scholarship from anyone else, he earned it. Now the real test is going to live up to the academic responsibility, as well as the athletic goals.
No, college is not for everyone, but statistically, it has been shown to be an important equalizer in terms of wealth and civic engagement.
College important for a few reasons. There are too few black doctors, lawyers, teachers, nurses, etc. The only way to become those first four is through education. We need to inspire, encourage, challenge and motivate our children to achieve great things in many realms, not just entertainment. I am not lessening the role of entertainers, but who do you think is a) handling their money and b) representing them in court/legal precedings? People with educations in specific fields.
The stats on the black male college going/graduation rates should cause us all to be in alarm. That’s why people are happy to hear that this young man took and made a decision that we all know he would be just as wealthy and rich had he not.
So you say college isn’t for everyone, no it isn’t. But unfortunately for far too many African Americans it is not the way, which leads to the inverse of sucsessive generations doing better.

I guess people are to lazy to work hard.Theres people outside the country that want education many of us can get.Example, jobs going overseas, they not doing that for nothing. When you get a job you have to start from the bottom.Don’t think your going to get the highest position because it don’t work like that in the real world. To the person who said its about who you know, not really. Its about hard work.Course you want to get yourself out there because you have to.I’m in the coporate world and please believe I had to work at the bottom to the top, I’m in the middle of getting my masters and next thing you know 4-years isn’t going to do anything. You live and learn everyday even till the day you die.Thats real.Stop trying to find the easy way out because there is no easy way out.We fought to have education now people saying its not for everybody?Get out of here.

Again, white children, whose parents are in the top tax bracket and earn good grades and test scores get free educations at the most prestigious schools all the time. Also, there have been numerous examples of African Americans who did not grow up in lush trappings, working day and night to get a college education and went on to do great things professionally and socially.
We are fooling ourselves if we think that the lack of higher education does not hurt Black America. But we must respect everyone, no matter what job they do as long as it is legal. The problems result when we start acting like a so called talented tenth is better than the rest of the other 90 percent.
This is an entertainment blog, so that is the focus. But does anybody follow what’s happening with regards to African Americans in business, higher education, medicine, etc? That’s were we get left behind because we are not “locked” into other modes of seeing ourselves, or have “representation” in films, movies or TV with a diversity of African American life. Education is a costly endeavor, but a life changing experience as well.
I just want more African Americans to understand the power that is inherent in receiving directed education beyond high school.

Well I am in college, as a matter of fact I am almost done and set to graduate a semester early, then right after that, going to graduate school.
However I am a firm believer that college isnt for anyone. There are a great amount of people who simply cant afford it. The school wont give them shit and guess what, both mommy and daddy have bad credit so no one will give them a loan. I fill out the fafsa every year and dont get anything. Why? becuase my parents make “too much” when the truth is i’m barely middle class. There have been many semesters where I didnt know whether or not I was going back due to my financial situation
There are many people that dont thrive in that type of environment and find something else to do with their life. College is nothing to play with and not to mention, its not free. So you really need to ask yourself if you’re truly ready to commit the time and finances

like i said b4 some people dont wanna go through college. i understand you wanna be young and stuff but that doesn’t mean nothing. and most of these people that dont want to go to college are the ones complaining they dont wanna do no more years thinking opportunity falls from the sky, going in the entertainment business is 25% chances. everybody needs to get out of the mode talking bout school aint for everybody man especially financially, if your parents cant claim you then claim your damn self and apply for some loans…geez patience and time dont have nothing to do with it unless you commit yourself.

You have to put yourself into college in order to really get something out of it…It’s one thing to go to college to just get a degree compared to going to college, getting good grades, participating in clubs, programs, researches, networking with professors, playing b-ball, or doing our own side project, etc WHILE getting your degree..Like someone said you have to be motovaited, it will not just fall in your lap….
I wish Romeo the best…hearing this really warmed my heart.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m sure him or his dad has the money to pay for school. He should give up that scholarship and give it to someone who cant afford school. I know someone who did that, and their parents didn’t make as much money as Romeo and Masta P. But they were well off and could afford it.

Chrsitina, that was a very ignorant comment. I will soon have a Bachelors degree, but I don’t feel I am more “mature” than some who does not. A college education is not the determing factor of one’s maturity level or the way they behave. You are obviously looking for something to make yourself feel superior… Not going to college and working is actually more of an “adult” role than the traditional college experience (i.e. staying in dorm, meal plans etc).

I’m a student at USC. I think that it’s great that this dude is going to school Yes college is not the only thing after high school but too many young black men don’t even think of college and I think that it’s a positive message to send to kids that yeah I have money, I’m a rapper but that doesn’t mean I can’t go get an education. I think that’s great & it doesn’t hurt that he’s going to my school. :-). Alot of athletes are good students as well. Reggie was a really good student as well as a lot of other people. I think Romeo will do will at SC. Can’t wait to have him as a part of the Trojan Family.

going to school does not make romeo any smarter than anyone. if master p wasn’t his father he wouldn’t even have these opportunities. he can’t act, or rap(especially rap) If he wasn’t already a little star he would have probably not even got that much playing time at his high school. He would have ended up just like a million other dudes in America that can ball, but they couldn’t get a scholarship because there are much more talented people.

183, I dont understand how what I said was ignorant. I am in your same position, as a matter of fact I am graduating in 3 weeks. I said that college matures you in a manner in which nothing else can. Meaning there are other ways to mature but college is a unique experience. I never lived on campus, never had a meal plan, I work almost 30 hours a week, and the only person I live with is my roommate. Not to mention I got loan people counting down the days waiting on my ass when I graduate
Its a different state of mind when you’re in school and paying 900 dollars a class. Thats a hell of a price to just “feel superior” there are still plenty of immature people in college, but for me personally it was a growing experience that helped me mature, I cant speak for anyone else.
