OPRAH TEACHES HER VIEWERS HOW TO LEAN & ROCK

oprah_lean.jpg
Instead of devoting her whole show to the whole Imus / Rutger’s basketball team controversy, Oprah decided to switch it up a bit and teach her white audience how to fucking Lean and Rock wit it!! Oprah this was such a good time to do a show like this – I mean white people already think we like to shuck and jive for their ass, so it was smart of you to join the party. **rolls eyes**

Anyway, I tried to find a youtube link of it, but Harpo Productions be on Youtube like white on rice! You will have to enjoy the pictures above.

She did however devote like 10 minutes to the Women’s Basketball team, telling them that:

“I speak for myself and every woman I know when I say that you all have made us so proud by the way you have handled this entire ordeal,”

I seen this yesterday I think they were trying to do the Chiken Noodle Soup too.

  2. um @ number 1. Read the date of that article. That was yesterday homie.

  3. Oh my lawd! That right there has got to be the funniest damn picture I have ever seen in my entire life…Oprah has officially now fell into the H.A.M. category.

  4. I watched it yesterday and I thought it was soooo funny! You should have seen those white folks snapping their fingers…or trying to at least.

And I stop caring about what white people “think” about us a long time ago. And I hope all of us get out of that too. Who cares what they think? If they don’t accept what we do and our culture, so what.

  5. Ummmm…. Well its her show. You never know, she might do a another show with the basket ball team on there. This incident just happen so we cant all expect her jump on the issue right away but leaning and rocking aint highly the ish.

  6. Damn, you right Angel! Okay, I hope you can find a clip because I missed it… :(

  7. oprah has money, but no rhythm

  8. Sharonda

Gayle was sweating it up, it was too funny.

  9. FyreStarrter

I for one think that it was actually appropriate for Oprah to have that on the show yesterday & let the main media frenzy die down a bit so that MORE people would be listening today to what’s really the main reason for the whole controversy. We need to address this issue at the SOURCE & it’s NOT DON IMUS!!! IT US, as a people for allowing our music & other media to degrade & deface women for so long that its now become commonplace for other people who don’t even know what those words we use MEAN!!! Plus we ALL could use a good laugh these days & THIS had to have been MAAAD hilarious!!!

  10. *in my best Bernie Mac voice*
OH LAWD!! Shockingly, as much as I hate snap music, some of those white people are getting it.

  11. And by the looks of the pics, the show that day look funny even though I hate that stupid ass dance. I agree with #5:Megan. I could care less. “THEM” people do not represent me or my culture, who is to say we have to gain their acceptance. They never accepted us then and they still dont accept us to this day, so screw them.

Um, does anyone else think the dancing segment was already planned BEFORE the Imus situation besides me? Oprah has done shows on Learning to dance before, so her doing another one wasn’t a surprise.

I for one am glad she did not devote the entire hour to Imus because television is saturated with it. Besides, is it no wonder on what side of the argument she falls on.

  13. Jaja

Very well put #11. It’s funny that we love to put fingers at whites, all the while they are laughing at us behind closed doors.

  14. then why even throw in the basketball team on the show? She should have devoted the whole show to the dancing. It is her show, so I digress.

I just found it odd how she just threw them in the mix.

  15. dee dee

Oprah chose a stupid way to deal with this topic. In my opinion, she caters to whites, so I’m not surprised at all.

  16. =Qua=

    Cooning with a capital C!

  17. Angel

That whole show was veeery random yesterday…lol She had like 4 different topics in one show. I was like WTF.

  18. Sharonda

Exactly they going to things behind close doors, but who doesn’t.But I understand where yall coming from.

  19. phillydon

why should she do a show on imus. most rappers say the same shit about black women and u always acclaim them so leave imus alone.

  20. whateva

I was laughing so hard. The women girl in black and red (pants); was getting it.

I went to her site because I forgot to tape it, but people on the message board found it hypocritical of her to turn to the Rutgers team and stated, “well there is always a white guy that can’t dance.” In reference to one of the white men dancing on the show.

  21. LuvMsHill

F*ck Oprah. She didn’t address the issue; because, she know she is just as guilty with her comments about Black youth here in America.

  22. velvetj

So what more could have been discussed on her 1 hour show that we have not already heard?

The woman cannot win for loosing. I think some of the criticism expressed here is just another example of both her critics as well as her supporters expecting perfection out of Oprah Winfrey. She can’t please everybody, so I just hope she continues to do her thing. I enjoyed the show and thought it was funny.

And poster # 18, I hope you feel the same way about many of the ignorant actions of a large segment of the Hip Hop community.

  23. v

It’s looks like the whole show was thrown together. As if they had contacted the team the same day. Because even when they came to the people’s house across from Oprah studio it looked odd because they already had a camera man in the house. But it was suppose to be a surprise an they weren’t suppose to know she was popping in. So when she came back from commercial break she cleared it up by asking why was the camera man already at their house. They said the producer said they were only coming. They didn’t tell them that Oprah was coming. The whole seemed thrown together and choppy even with the dancing. Eventhough I enjoyed the dancing.

  24. CARAMEL 2

I would’ve cracked up watching that mess. I know Oprah was just as stiff as they were. LOL…..

  25. Shawna

I saw the whole show. It was about doing something you’ve never done before.Oprah went and met some of her neighbors ( across from Harpo studios) And Gayle took some dance lessons with an Alvin and Ailey dancer instructor. That’s how it came to the dance segment. Oprah does what she do and I ain’t mad at her.

  26. LuvMsHill

How many times have I read some you degrade the young people that came up with the Chicken Noodle Soup dance(calling them Coons etc), but because Queen Oprah decide to put the sh*t on her show it is all of a sudden entertaining. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  27. hood_shit

I think the dance show was already planned but the Imus thing was really newsworthy so her producers wanted to cash in on an ‘exclusive’ with the team. At any rate, I thought it was a bit odd to mix all that together (team, dancing, visiting neighbors) but hey, It’s O! She does what the fuck she wanna do.

  28. Martinique_fr

    # 11 … WELL SAID! I agree.

    # 27 … You are right… The show was about doing something different that you would never consider doing.

Give Oprah a break, her show was funny as hell. She’s not the messiah, she’s just a filthy rich black woman.

  29. I think this Imus mess is a sexist issue first and then a race issue second. I didn’t see the Oprah show, but I believe that the Rutger’s basketball team interview was done live and the other segments were taped days or weeks before. I know in the preview commercials, there were clips from every other segment but the Rutger interview, so that’s why I think it was done live. Oprah probably felt that she needed to do this interveiw, even though it was last minute, because it’s getting so much media attention. And remember, Oprah has raised this issue before when she and Sandra Bullock commented to Ludacris about the degrading of women in rap.

  30. Hold the hell up, like I said this is Oprah’s show. Second, Oprah has done more for the black community than any of “US” on here. She was the one who built the $40 million school in South Africa for girls who needed a quality education, she is the one who donated millions of dollars to colleges and our communities, she is the one who donated her hard earned money and time to help rebuild houses after Hurricane Katrina hit. This woman is a godsent angel and many of you have the audacity to sit up here and talk sh** about her. This is the same reason why we cant get along. None of you should be having bitch fits over a simple little show she did. Its one reason to be pissed at Don Imus for what he said but its another to show so called outrage over one show Oprah did. The damn incident just happened, do you really expect her to do a show on them so damn soon. Calm your asses down.

    Love,Peace,&&Honeyy

  31. When it comes to Oprah, I have a lot of respect and admiration for her but…Let me stop, I didn’t see the show so maybe there’s some point to why she felt she needed to break out dancing.

I’d love for Oprah to invite Kiri Davis on her show and tackle some of the issues that are need to have some light shed on them in the Black Community.

  32. JLB

Wow Angel whats with the cussing! Are you ok?:)!!!!!!!
I’m proud of Tweetie.. Shes going to be banking now!!!!!!!
    Here’s her myspace page…http://www.myspace.com/birddance2
    She is the truth!!!!!

  33. loves2speakhermind

I was just surprised that she was actually supporting this non sense of a dance on her show. That fake ass Ciara choreographer was trying to teach them the “latest moves” but all of the moves were the dumbass foolish dances that we see in hip-hop videos everyday. I was also surprised that she had said that there was always “that one white guy at a party who has no rhythm.” What? Now if a white man or a white woman who had their own talk show said ” you know how there is always that black girl who can’t do nothing but shake her ghetto ass” it would’ve been all over the news. With that said, the show was so funny and that white man in the blue dress hirt was getting it with his old skool quick feet dancing in the beginning!

  34. Boss Lady

While I am proud of Oprah for being a black woman of her admirable caliber, I think she has totally abandoned where she came from. That being said her decision to LEAN & ROCK wit it or in my opnion AVOID racial conflict AGAIN was not at all suprising to me. Just like anything to do with hip hop or any hardcore issues that surround black america. She steers clear of A LOT of racial conflict all the time because she doesnt want people to remember she’s black just like us. Thats when I start to resent her. But then again its her show so she is allowed to make that call even if she is as fake a Korean hair weave!

  35. ms_mac

Why didn’t she teach them this last year? I mean this dance has been out for a minute right? I think this was her way of making light of the Imus issue by showing that she embraces Black culture. LAME.

  36. chinababy

The dance show was already planned. I didn’t see the show, thank God! Good Morning America had Cherish show them that dance last summer. I just find the whole teaching white people, Oprah included, how to Hip Hop dance pure amusement and not worth getting mad about. Oprah show is fluff 95% of the time anyway. Gayle keeps Oprah grounded and this show must have been her idea since she was there. It wasn’t until this season I realized that while I admire Oprah’s accomplishments and her goodwill, she’s an airhead.

  37. jazzy j

I agree with u #5 (Megan) I am so sick of hearing some black people say “ur in public” dont talk like that , dont walk like that, dont dress like that. TRUE there is a place in time to be professional and what not, but it just bothers me that when black people are going to some white thing, we have to change how we are in order to be “accepted” or not to embarrass some one. I dont see white people trying to change when they are around black people. WHO said that what they do is RIGHT and PERFECT but we on the other hand are always wrong. and one more thing lol. BLACK people please stop telling other black people “u talk white” that is the most ignorant comment. Just because someone speaks PROPER english, doesnt mean they are talking white, they are SIMPLY educated. Sorry my comment had nothing to do with the post lol

  38. DAMN I MISSED IT! THE GIRL IN THE YELLOW SHIRT ON RIGHT IS KILLIN IT AINT SHE LOL

  39. halcyonc

MEGAN…Agreed. Whites are going to think what they want to think anyway, so just do you.

  40. CHERISH

SAW THE SHOW….THAT WHITE MAN HAD ME CRACKING UP!!

“IM TAKING THIS TO MY NEXT WEDDING”

    HILARIOUS!!

  41. CHERISH

YOU KNOW WHEN OPRAH said “that one white guy that cant dance”. I said OPRAH you better stop, She is going to loose her White Audience.

The house she visted was off the hook. I live in Chicago and that house down there is Probaly a grip!!

  42. Bshock

I feel what Oprah did was fine…I don’t think we needed all that dancing but still it was fine. Imus has been getting more publicity since this happened than before the incident. Oprah didn’t need to go over what has already been stated by every other station in the country.

We all know Oprah addresses the issues that needs to be addressed, and she addressed it appropriately. What more could she have said or got out of the team that the public doesn’t already know.

  43. Great time for someone like Oprah to be dancing when all this mess is going on. But you know she still has to appease to her white audience in light of everything. I mean afterall, they are keeping her pockets fat. Typically a house nicca. Oops! Did I say that?

  44. cherry fla's best kept secret

OPRAH GO MONEY, SHE CAN SAY WHATEVER WHENEEVR AND DO WHATEVER….U DONT BELIVE ME ….ASK HOWARD STERN!!LOL

  45. I saw it too. Oprah and Gayle are two sistas trapped in white women’s bodies. Sorry, they have absolutely NO rhythym. I’m glad she didnt devote the whole show to Imus though. There’s no need to even say his name anymore, its time to work on our own shortcomings as a race.

#22 cosign, that woman in the black/red was getting it.

Okay here’s the link then scroll to the middle and click Learn The Moves!

  47. Ms. S

dammit…i would have wanted to see that!!!!!!

  48. whateva

    @43,
You could tell by looking at her neighbor’s place that it is very pricey. I loved it though, even if the guest had to use a curtain for privacy lol! I loved the way you could see everything, absolutely gorgeous. It was very immaculate and I know Oprah said, “The couple didn’t know she was coming therefore they wouldn’t have had time to clean up but looking at the clip

    http://www.oprah.com/tows...de_20070412_350_202.jhtml

about 12 seconds into it. I know I saw a video man for a quick second inside the house before Oprah enters.”

  49. babyboss

    AHHHHHHHHHHHHH SNAP!!!!

  50. Chy

For anyone interested in the dance clip you can watch it on Oprah’s website. It’s about 6 minutes long.

  51. Chy

I saw the video man too but the couple was told producers from the show was coming. They didn’t know Oprah herself was coming.

  52. Reecie

I can always tell when someone is saying something about Oprah just for the hell of being petty and doesn’t really watch her show.

Oprah’s shows TYPICALLY have several topics in one day. Maybe twice a week at most, she will have a show dedicated to one topic.

She dealt with the topic appropriately in my opinion. The team had an hour long press conference on Tuesday (I watched the entire thing), so there wasn’t a need for another hour long show about the situation. Of course Oprah’s shows are planned weeks in advance of their taping, which includes taping segments, coordinating guest spots, etc. which would make it difficult to completely scrap it to be able to put together a meaningful show.

As black people we really suffer from crabs in a barrell syndrome. It is very RARE that any of these black blogs actually bother to mention all of the positive shows that Oprah does. What about the hours of programming she dedicated to covering the leadership academy? The WEEKS she spent in Africa going around the country giving gifts to children for Chrismas and the year it took to plan that trip? What about the expose’ she did about child slavery in Africa? What about the specials she’s done on poverty in America? Race in America? The special on the Red campaign to donate money for AIDS in Africa? Hmm….nobody wants to bring that kind of stuff up, because that doesn’t jive with the “Oprah caters to white people” argument.

So please people…if you are going to criticize Oprah for her programming, at least be informed about the material she covers. You don’t have to like her, but at the very least, don’t making broad sweeping statements about her programming if you don’t in fact watch it.

Lastly…how is Oprah cooning to white people when 1) Leaning and snapping aren’t even coon-ish dances; 2) the average black person probably knows how to lean/snap/and rock. It’s not like leaning/snapping are some secret black dances, it’s in every freaking rap video! Oprah can’t win for losing…but she’s still making money and if people actually watched the show instead of pulling comments out of their a$$ they would know that Oprah never tries to downplay her blackness and she is incredibly positive representation of a strong black woman.

  53. FyreStarrter

I agree with the person who said that the Dance segments & the other segments about your neighbors were PRE-FILMED & scheduled to Air segments & that the interview with the courageous Young Women of Rutgers University was added at the last minute. Truth be told they are busy ladies these days so maybe they only had a certain amount of time to be available yesterday & then there will be a whole show devoted to them & the topic the verbal assault on them has brought to the forefront. And as far as Oprah saying what she said about Black Youth in America sadly for at least 70% of us SHE IS RIGHT. That is something that needs to be addressed as well as an offshoot of all this wonderful dialogue we seem to be having these days about the state of our people & the negative influences our media have on us & obviously OTHERS as well.

  54. Coko

I remember when Oprah was the shyt…we all used to watch cause she had the best people on the show! (thinking of the Fresh Prince episode where Carlton was dancin to the theme music) LMAO…her show ain’t like it used to be…nice she switched it up. If she could have Kirstie A. showin how she danced her weight off…y not do a lil leanin and rockin? Same shyt…

  55. CHERISH

#43….They knew Oprahs Producers were coming by, but not oprah. She said it later in the show that they knew that someone was coming by,but not oprah. I dont think they live that NEAT!. They probaly cleaned up because over billions of people are basically going to see the inside of their house!!

  56. downhome03

I love O but I can’t help but remember in the past how she reacted to rappers and there music. There is not too much cussing in snap music but it is still considered rap I thought. She even refuses to have rappers on her show. I think that she should have saved the dancing for another show and stick to the basketball story. I also think that some ignorant person was like okay she is supposed to be talking about race relations and she breaks out dancing… that is typical of blacks. I hope that the comment that Imus made is a wake up call for our race so we can be the best that we can without degrading ourselves. Just my opinion.

  57. CHERISH

    Im sorry, I mean #50!!
