CANDIDS: HALLE & GABRIEL GET PISSED AT THE PAPARAZZI

Thursday, April 19, 2007 |

HALLE & GABRIEL @ AIRPORT HALLE & GABRIEL @ AIRPORT (2) HALLE & GABRIEL @ AIRPORT (3)

Halle Berry and her man Gabriel Aubrey were a the airport earlier this week when some wack-ass paparazzi’s started to mess with them. As you can see, she had to hold him back so he wouldn’t jump on one of those fools. You can also see her ass through that sheer dress she was rocking. I know the guys aren’t complaining.

THROWBACK THURSDAY: VANITY 6!

Thursday, April 19, 2007 |

Vanity_6_Drive_Me_Wild_12INCH_3.jpg

It’s been slow for music this week… so I decided to do something a little different and do a little throwback piece. If some of you are Prince fans, you may be familiar with his then-edgy group, Vanity 6. Vanity 6 was formed during the “1999″ era of Prince’s career. Originally called “The Hookers,” Vanity 6 released their first and only album, “Nasty Girl” in 1983 with their manager, Jamie Starr, who, later, fans found out was really Prince. Although credited in their album as being written and produced by the group’s members, Vanity, Susan Moonsie and Brenda Bennett, fans found out that the music and whole group’s concept was really the brain child of Prince. Vanity was never known for her voice, but her stage presence and abbrassive personality. And it was clear to Prince’s peers that he was keeping her around for her looks and his attraction for her.

RUMOR: AKON HUMPS A 14 YR. OLD ON STAGE?

Thursday, April 19, 2007 |

n13.jpg Well, that’s the buzz going around anyway. Last weekend, Akon performed at Zen nightclub in Port of Spain. During the concert, he held a dancing or rather, rumping contest with seven girls out the audience to see which Trinidadian could represent the best…

Later on, Akon would have his way with the petite young lady: turning, twisting and even flipping her body, while mimicking sexual positions and acts all over the stage for three consecutive rounds.

His DJ, Virgin Islands native Benny D, even joined in during the second round and together they sandwiched the young lady on the floor of the stage. In the end, Akon declared himself the winner, even though the crowd adjudged that his female volunteer had won the contest. READ MORE

Now people with the footage on youtube have stated that this girl was only 14, so who knows? I do know Akon was getting his during this contest. Didn’t know the brother could get down like that…

WHO SUNG IT BETTER ANYWAY?: BEYONCE V.S DES’REE

Wednesday, April 18, 2007 |

beedesiree.jpg

Beyonce remade a song called “Still In Love (Kissing You)”, but it’s being reported she never had permission to record the song and is being hit with a lawsuit:

According to a lawsuit filed yesterday in Manhattan Federal Court by music administators, Beyonce allegedly never obtained proper clearance to cover a song called “I’m Kissing You,” originally co-written by a singer named Des’ree — famous for her 1994 smash hit, “Gotta Be.” Des’ree’s version was used in Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 film “Romeo and Juliet,” Beyonce’s version can be found on the re-release of her album, “B’Day.”

In the lawsuit, Des’ree and her reps claim that Beyonce, along with her record company people, originally tried to work out a deal to use the song. When they weren’t satisfied with the proposed terms — which included not being able to change the title or make a music video for the song — Beyonce’ allegedly blew off copyright law completely, and recorded the song and video without permission. The song was eventually released on Beyonce’s album, “B’Day - Deluxe Edition” on April 3, 2007, with the title “Still in Love (Kissing You).”

Des’ree is suing to halt distribution of the song, video and album and seeking at least $150,000 in damages. READ MORE

Looks like Bee went hard on them and said she gonna do this song for her man. I’ve always like Des’ree though, she has a beautiful voice and I found it odd for Beyonce to remake the song anyway seeing how it was released and plenty people know about it. I’ll let you guys be the judge in this challenge: Who sung it better anyway?

OPRAH’S PANEL DISCUSSION OVER THE IMUS CONTROVERSY

Wednesday, April 18, 2007 |

oprah1.jpg
oprah2.jpg

So much has happened this month, with the tragedy at VA Tech - and even back to the Imus controversy v.s Black Americans and Hip Hop, which the media has suddenly gained interest in.

I’m sure many of you heard about Oprah’s two part town meeting that took place Monday and Tuesday, circulating around a comment Don Imus made to the ‘Today’ show:

I know that that phrase [nappy-headed hos] didn’t originate in the white community. That phrase originated in the black community. And I’m not stupid. I may be a white man, but I know that these young women and young black women all through that society are demeaned and disparaged and disrespected by their own black men and that they are called that name. And I know that, and that doesn’t give me, obviously, any right to say it, but it doesn’t give them any right to say it.

In Oprah’s town hall discussion, topics such as racism and the denigration, marginalization and sexual exploitation of women heated the stage with thoughts and feelings from a group of black female students representing Spelman College.

Russell Simmons; record executive Kevin Liles; Dr. Benjamin Chavis, former CEO of the NAACP and current President/CEO of the Hip-Hop Summit Network; and Grammy-winning rapper Common continued the discussion on yesterday and was there to speak on the behalf of the Hip Hop community…
