Julianne Shepherd of Vibe.com reports:
Browne had a distinct vocal resonance and a dignified presence; among his first roles in 1956, the year he began acting, was in Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar.” He went on to star in works written by theatre and film greats – Jean Genet, Edward Albee, Alfred Hitchcock. He played a lawyer on the “Archie Bunker Show” and Professor Foster on “The Cosby Show.” The former garnered him an Emmy. He narrated films about pigs and dogs – Babe first, then Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties – and portrayed “Box” in the ’70s sci-fi classic Logan’s Run. His extensive resume spanned four decades and included poetry anthologized alongside William Butler Yeats and Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Before acting, he had been a professor at Lincoln University – he taught comparative literature and French – and a world-class athlete. [ read more @ VIBE.COM >>> ]

The episode where Bill Cosby and himself beat “Dr. Huxtable’s” father in that card game they were playing was too funny. “The Rubbing of the Head..The rubbing of the Head!”
RIP, such a wonderful actor.
R.I.P. I remembered him best from the Cosby Show. God rest your soul.
Wow–this man accomplished so much in his 81 years.
That’s what I call a role model!
May he rest in peace. I pray God’s blessing and comfort on his family during their time of loss.

Aww, I loved his voice RIP Roscoe, I’m sure you will be missed
Such a classic.May his soul RIP.
What’s up Bill!, Yeah, he was on A Different World as a teacher and I also remember him as a mayor or senator or something like that in Uptown Saturday Night wich co-starred Bill Cosby. It seemed like he always had a small role on something or another.
I think he was on some episodes of a different world too. I remember him going off on Jada Pinkett’s character and saying she could make better grades if she applied herself.
Awww, he’ll be missed. He really did have a dignified presence.
R.I.P. i just saw him on the Cosby show he was so funny on there.
I loved this man as an actor. Even in the 70s when most Blacks were typecast as pimps and hustlers he took roles that were dignified and royal. RIP man.
RIP
RIP.
I remember him from Sanford and Son. When he came to dinner with Donna one night. I also liked the episode fron All in the Family when he was trapped in the elevator with Archie and a mexican couple and the woman was pregnant.
He was a brilliant actor.
He was really great. I will always remember his voice and his dignity. RIP.
That was by far his best role ever #3. That crooked preacher was a mess on Good Times!
*We don’t roar, we don’t fight but
we’re gonna score tonight…*
Rest in peace brotha.
RIP… My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
He was such a distinquished gentleman!
I remember a funny scene on the Cosby Show when they played a bid whiss card game and the winner got to rub the losers head! They took one look at ROSCOE’s bald head and said, “It looks like that head’s already been rubbed!”
RIP!
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SOUL WE LOST. RIP!!!
R.I.P…. I loved him on “The Cosby Show”
Mr. Browne, Barry White, and James Earl Jones have the most distinguished bass voices in black entertainment.
We’ll miss you!
“and portrayed “Box” in the ’70s sci-fi classic Logan’s Run”
Omg, I never knew that was him!! I love Logan’s Run!!
LOL @ BAM BAM & KHINJE!
I have EVERY episode of Good Times & I watch it ALL the time. I couldn’t help myself. I know I’m wrong, but sometimes I secretly wished that they would have followed through on one of their many “options” to possibly get out of the Ghetto!

RIP may god look after you in heaven and may your soul b free and safe

No that was James Earl Jones. I’d have a heart attack if they would’ve said THAT was him. But regardless it’s sad to hear. Rest in Jesus Roscoe
All of the greatness is starting to leave us. What will our generation do with the torch? Today’s world and what we focus on should be about so much more than how “good” someone looks or who’s got cellu;ite!? (you kiddin?) Being intelligent and active in the community is SO SEXY!! Take notes from the greats!
#17 James Earl Jones was the king in Coming to America – another great
i LOVE his voice!
He was awesome on the show! RIP
RIP.

RIP Mr. Browne
He was on a Different World as the same character…Professor Foster. I remember the epi with Jada Pinkett…when she was doin her Shakespeare assignment. “Cause baby u know I love u!”
I definitely remember that Cosby episode I saw him on … but the funniest episode yet that I’ve seen him in is a Will & Grace episode … don’t know the exact name of it but he was a bookkeeper for a gay/lesbian bookstore and it just was a really funny episode. I will never forget him calling himself a “raging bitch”. He was one of the greatest black actors, mos def. R.I.P … my condolences.
wow so many stars are dying. May he R.I.P.
OH NO, LORD WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY??????????? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH….
