Browne had a distinct vocal resonance and a dignified presence; among his first roles in 1956, the year he began acting, was in Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar.” He went on to star in works written by theatre and film greats - Jean Genet, Edward Albee, Alfred Hitchcock. He played a lawyer on the “Archie Bunker Show” and Professor Foster on “The Cosby Show.” The former garnered him an Emmy. He narrated films about pigs and dogs - Babe first, then Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties - and portrayed “Box” in the ’70s sci-fi classic Logan’s Run. His extensive resume spanned four decades and included poetry anthologized alongside William Butler Yeats and Lawrence Ferlinghetti.
