Shaquanda Cotton was NOT sentenced to 7 years in prison from the start. She was offered probation, just like the white girl was. Shaquanda’s mother refused the probation offer.

The mother knew when she turned down the offer that her daughter was going to get time and she obviously didn’t care.

@ Seabreeze, I have to say that yes rap has alot of negativity in it these days and yes they are kids who pick up on these lyrics and just run with it. But who is there to blame? The artist? I don’t think so. I think parents should instill in their children the difference between entertainment and reality. If your child is easily influenced by rap lyrics don’t blame the artist, as a parent, blame yourself. No matter what songs are played on the radio, I censor what my children listens too. Not only that, I also talk with them about moral and values. You bought up the fact that songs are being played in clubs and fights break up. Yes I have seen it happen plenty of times before. But why blame the artist? Why not blame the dumb a$$ who is easily influenced just by a damn song? Young people need to be taught that these artist are in it for one thing and one thing only….$(money). Half of the bull$hit these rap artists are talking about, they never did that $hit. I forgot to comment on Al. I think Yayo should be sentenced for assault but I don’t think this requires Al Sharpton presence. Where was the protest when Kramer disgraced our race? What about the senseless killings in the hood? What about the violence that still exists in New Orleans? People, mostly children, are getting killed every single dayum day down here. Where is the protest? What about the people who are supposed to be protecting the people and enforcing the law (police) but instead are killing young black men? For example, they had a black male who was killed by a police officer down here just because he cut in front of a funeral procession? Where was the mofo protest then!!!

Kids are easily influenced that’s the point! We as a society should be more responsible with the types of images we bombard them with in media outlets, maybe if these images weren’t so easy to access or view it would help to eliminate some of the violence.

Children or young people learn from adults if we make a big issue out of the violence perpetuated in the media and ban or limit their access to it, maybe they would take us as adults more seriously.

Hell some of us adults beat our children to the tv or radio to listen to the nonsense, instead of having a discussion about what our children are listening to and why they shouldn’t take the messages in songs and videos seriously-when we do nothing it’s almost as if we condone the violence ourselves.

I was tried in March 2006 in the town’s juvenile court, convicted of “assault on a public servant” and sentenced by Lamar County Judge Chuck Superville to prison for up to 7 years, until I turn 21. Just three months earlier, Superville sentenced a 14-year-old white girl, convicted of arson for burning down her family’s house, to probation.

As a 14-year-old, Shaquanda Cotton was sent to youth prison with violent offenders for a minor crime — shoving a hall monitor.

In the business world if a bad move was made by an employee, then the company is looked at, that’s why people get fired. So, looking at Tony Yayo, he represents G-Unit, so obviously 50 being the head of the company will be questioned. You have to know the people who are around you and know that the people who works for you, are a reflection of you. So people, think of it as business sense. If it was your company, who do you think they would address.

50 did say he was not even in the state of NY when it happened. Eyewitness testimony is not always one hundred percent true. The boy could have been mistaken and thought he saw 50 there, but didn’t. If 50 says he was not even in the state, there’s a problem with part of the story. Tony should be held accountable though for his actions.

There is merit in them picketing against Universal Records. Contrary to what these artists portray, they really have very little creative control. The music executives tell them what’s “hot” and what’s “going to sell” because they know what they’re willing to promote. They’re not going to promote honest expression. i think that 50 should make an apology for what his camp did. 50 is suppose to be the head hancho. so he should be very embarassed by what his man did. when your close friends and family members do things which are f###ed up we sometimes apologize for that person’s behavior. but birds of a feather flock together. 50 isn’t any different from tony yayo. so why apologize when your just like that person. an apology would mean or be taken as 50 going against tony yayo. so 50 rather stay silent and act as if he was not there on the spot. or that that he knew nothing about the incident. g unit should at least man up and say this kind of behavior is not acceptable.
