THE MASSACRE AT VIRGINIA TECH

Tuesday, April 17, 2007

vtechx-large.jpg
I got a lot of emails wondering why I didn’t make a post about the massacre at Virgina Tech and my reasoning behind this is because I didn’t know what to write. This whole incident is horrible and for it to happen to people our age and at a college, makes it more close to home than I could imagine. All I can say is that my prayers go out to everyone affected by this senseless and unimaginable tragedy..

I know this won’t bring back the people that lost thier lives but how did the guy get guns into a dorm? Why wasn’t the campus shut down after the 1st people were shot? After this tragedy I hope alot of colleges & universities reevaluate their disater procedures.

I figured I would get a response like #10, that’s one of the reasons why I didn’t want to make a post. But that’s your opinion, I just thought I should post something for those whose wanted to speak on the incident.

@9- I don’t know the dorm policies on all campuses and how students come in and out. But in all the dorms on my campus all you have to do is walk in and show your ID to the clerk at the front desk and walk on to your room. Plus each dorm has different colored stickers that they put on the residents ID at the beginning of the year representing they live in that dorm. It really wouldn’t be that hard for someone to get a gun into a dorm on this campus because security isn’t heavily enforced. You don’t have officers patting you down as you enter dorms and buildings. College gives so much freedom for people to come and go as they please because you wouldn’t think something would happen like this but there’s crazy people out there. I mean what can you do? Have security at dorms now checking before you come in and security in classrooms. It’s crazy but RIP to the victims and condolences to the victim’s families.

Hello All,
I am junior here @ Virginia Tech. Monday defnitely shook our entire community and I am honestly at a lost for words. I just am writing this to thank ConcreteLoop for showing compassion and allowing others to get their messages out there. I am an avid reader of this blog and I honestly enjoy the daily entertainment. To everyone out there, KNOW that we hear you and that we appreciate you joining our family. Virgnia Tech is a beautiful and peaceful place and the last thing I would want is for this to tarnish my institution. This will not break us down it will only help to educate and inspire more leaders of tomorrow. I LOVE MY HOKIES!

@ TVGIRL

You’re so right. It’s been my experience here at the LOOP that even when the subject is entertainment, a lot of times there’s a kernel of seriousness and our fellow posters just run with it! That’s the beauty of this blog - One minute you’re laughing, the next you could be getting all passionate or even feeling a l’il sad.

Pardon the cliche, but this whole tragedy truly reminds me not to take too much for granted and to count my blessings. It could have happened to any of us; in our workplaces, on the street - anywhere.

Actually, I don’t really care what age it happened to. It’s just very tragic to see both teachers and students, who lost their lives doing day to day activities that we take for granted. It’s really easy to say what we would and would have not done in that situation, but we were NOT in it and it must have been horrifically chaotic, as well as terrifying for all those involved.

You had everyone from people who were holocaust survivors to Seniors who were graduating next month. It’s just a painful experience all around. One of the professors just married earlier this year.

It is heartbreaking.

When I first heard about this tragedy, I was deeply saddened, but continued with my day-to-day… It wasn’t until today when the faces and life stories where given to some of the victims and when I saw the grief stricken faces of their friends and family members that it truly hit me!

Those poor students and faculty members did not deserve what happened to them! I don’t know why this has happended and I don’t believe that there was any way that it could have been prevented. Sometimes the Lord allows certain things to happen that we can’t understand. This could have happened on any campus at any given time and still can! What I do know is that we must now try to move forward and find a way to learn from this.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all the victim’s friends and family members… They will be sorely missed but they will never be forgotten!

I don’t even know what to say. I live in the UK, but I can honestly say I found news of this event so heartwrenching. It’s just so completely tragic, young people who were getting an education so they could strive to make something of themselves have had their lives needlessly and brutally cut short. I can’t even begin to imagine how the family and friends of the deceased must feel. My condolences to them all. It is really is profoundly upsetting and horrifying. R.I.P to all that lost their lives, we can only hope you have gone on to a better place.

Thank you for bringing this up, Angel. I for one am glad you did.

This whole incident gets me thinking about the brevity of life. Life is so fleeting. Some people may get offended when I say this and I’m sorry if you do. I know people don’t want to bring up religion but I know this makes me think about how we need to get our lives right with the Lord Jesus Christ. This is an extremely unfortunately event that took place and my prayers go out to the families, friends and acquaintences of the victims.

Thanks so much Angel for putting this up, much appreciated.

Honestly to say this is a tragedy is an understatement. When I found out my eyes started tearing up immediately. Over 30 people killed??? It’s unthinkable, I am truly disgusted that so many people lost their lives. I am currently in college (graduating next year) and I cannot imagine how the victims’ families must feel.

I was watching the news and I saw one of the students he killed. He was a TRIPLE major, and he was a senior. He was going to do great things in life and now he will never get the chance. Terrible.

SO THAT DIVA

Tuesday, April 17, 2007 /

I currently live in central Virginia and I drove all the way up to Blacksburg to attend the Convocation at VTech earlier this afternoon. Why? Because I felt it necessary…certain things are unexplainable and God just leads you to do…..the Bible says to “mourn w/those who mourn” So I felt as though I needed to be there and mourn w/those who are mourning.

I am a firm believer that things happen for a reason and although this event was equally tragic and heart breaking, God has a better plan for those angels he called home on Monday. Please pardon me if I seem to come off as sounding all “preachy” and whatnot.

Be Blessed~

There was a vigil held at my school today. A girl who transferred from VT read an email she recieved from one of her friends who was involved. It was so sad to hear a first hand account of what went on. The guy who wrote the email spoke about seeing the sadness in the shooters eyes and had sympathy for him. Also that we should view it as 33 people dead and not 32 and the shooter. IDK how I feel about that but may God bless all who were touched by this tragedy.

I would just like to offer my condolences to all those affected directly and indirectly by the incidents that happen at VT. I would also like to offer my condolences to the family of the student that did the killing. It has to be hard on his family knowing that you sent your child to school, in another country nonetheless, to get an education, and you hear on the news that he has done this. I cried. This just goes to show that people with major deppresion issues really cant just go unoticed. I mean, i read about it, and, they said he was always writing about brutal death. From Yahoo:

“When we read Cho’s plays, it was like something out of a nightmare. The plays had really twisted, macabre violence that used weapons I wouldn’t have even thought of,” former classmate Ian McFarlane, now an AOL employee, wrote in a blog posted on an AOL Web site. He said he and other students “were talking to each other with serious worry about whether he could be a school shooter.”

The faculty members should have done something about that. Seriously. Things like that shouldnt have been ignored.

I think the ONE questions that we need to ask ourselves IS: WHY is our nation so ANGRY all of a sudden? Think about it, we have had at LEAST 5 mass shootings in the past 5 months!!! What is going on in our hearts & our minds that we can no longer control? If anyone has ANY ideas maybe now would be a good time to express them. We HAVE to do something before its too late, and too late was YESTERDAY. I have a personal connection to the tragedy yesterday, one of my co-workers sister was among those wounded. She was shot 4 TIMES. She is in critical but guarded condition right now. WE are all praying for not only her recovery but the recovery of ALL VT tragedy survivors as WELL as the recovery of a nation in pain. Something has to happen & it has to happen NOW.

63.

I agree with FyreStarrter , why are we so bigots, “we’re the greatest in the world” we bully other nations when we have our flaws also. We promote peace and equality around the world but we’re also facing it domestically?, maybe we have too much freedom or options. Hypocrite at its best.

I am deeply moved and hurt by this incident. It is very unfortunate that what is supposed to be one of the most enjoyable times of young people’s lives (going away to college) is suddenly ruined by someone else’s deep rooted self hatred. I have heard several people saying that this is why they won’t (in the future) allow their kids to go AWAY to school. Hopefully, as African Americans (stratch that…..AMERICANS in general)we refuse to allow this to affect our view on the college experience. Please people: pray for the fallen….and don’t let one bad apple ruin the entire bunch…….
