THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW
Monday, April 2, 2007

Johnta Austin feat. DJ Unk - Video (full) - download
Johnta Austin, at this point (after hearing this song), seems a little desperate for the release and/or success of his solo debut album. Although he might be a talented songwriter, Johnta Austin just can’t seem to knock out a hit for himself that will garner enough success on the charts for a good album release. His album has already been reviewed in Vibe Magazine, so there’s no way that this track could possibly be old. This seems freshly recorded, with influences of recently popular songs, to give him more mass appeal. Maybe it’ll work for him…
Rihanna feat. Jay-Z - Umbrella (full) - download
Rihanna is coming back with a brand new album, “Good Girl Gone Bad.” Which is hilarious title, considering that the track is featuring Jay-Z and people will think that is is completely scandalous. They knew that this would cause controversy, which will probably equal album sales. As far as the song goes, I kind of like it. It is different in the way that “S.O.S.” was different for her. Rihanna is popping out albums like no one’s business. That’s three albums in three years. This girl really is shaping up the be quite the workaholic.
Teedra Moses feat. Jadakiss - Fall In Love (snippet) - download
In my opinion, Teedra Moses is one of the most underrated R&B female vocalists and writers. She has a super mature sound, vocally and lyrically. I feel like she really writes songs that people can relate to. Looks like she’s taking a page from “Complex Simplicity” and decided to delivery us with another Jadakiss feature. I’m not sure how old or new this is, or whether or not it’s going on Teedra’s new album, “Young Lioness,” which is supposedly due out this year. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. I need to hear the rest of this song for a full analysis.
Amerie - R&B Girl (full) - download
Why would Amerie do this? Although this is a great sample, it’s overused. Most popularly for Keyshia Cole’s, “Thought You Had My Back.” This song is just wack, in my opinion. I don’t know what Amerie is thinking about for this material on her new album, “Because I Love It.” I don’t really have anything to say about this except for Amerie needs work. “Take Control” was mediocre at best, the video was the worst, and nothing else that I’ve heard has really peaked my interest about the album. I’m surprised that Amerie hasn’t gotten the Christina Milian bomb and been dropped long ago. Although she’s had good material in the past, none of her albums have really been succesful and have been deemed as flops. That new album cover is “fye,” though.

All I can say is that “Umbrella” will end up being the biggest record in Rhianna’s career to date. It shows a more aggressive side (vocally) and I’m anticipating the rest of her project!!!! Big “shout-outs” to The RedZone family (C.”Tricky” Stewart on the production/ Dream on the pen). These are names you will be hearing in the up & coming year….

I like the Teedra joint, I need her album like…NOW! Is it coming out this summer? They better promote that this time.
The Amerie track is from a mixtape I think…but I still like it. Brian you are dead wrong for all them comments though, Amerie is better than Christina Milian and her albums sell a hella lot more.
Johnta writes such beautiful songs, and he is sexy.

@ Mac I agree about teedra, but you also need the it-factor, whatever that means lol. I think FATE has alot to do with that too. Some just are not destined to be successful singers/rappers even though it may seem like they have the chops.
Rhianna’s “umbrella” is a hot track.

Hmmm…I think that Mr. Johnta Austin is trying to sound like Usher.*Maybe I’m hearing things. I will just take a restroom break when that song is played at the club.
Amerie’s song is ok but it has the potential to grow on me.

I don’t care what anyone says…Rihanna’s voice is fucking irritating. She can’t sing. sorry. I’m sure OTHER people will love the song..and its gonna get tons of airplay but its still wack.
Amerie and Teedra are BOTH Underated.

Umbrella is sick
Amerie had a nice song if only she could replace the word R&B with something else that others can relate to. But Brian you kinda going at her a little hard. She has done much better than C. Milian. I was shocked to find out that all her albums combined did not equal her to platinum. I don’t know one hit Christina is famous for thus far. I mean what song does she have that I can listen to and say man I wish she would come back into the game and give some more of this…Oh I just thought about Dip it Low.

Gotta agree with Brian, Amerie’s song sounds tired, she needs to come out strong instead of this recycling sh*t
Teedra’s song is alright, she needs a catchy hook tho so it will appeal to the general public, like what Rihanna’s doing…

Amerie is going to need a miracle this time around, she hasn’t had any successful albums. She should go indy like Teedra because Teedra making good moves. Her music is much better than mainstream.Amerie can not sing,I try to catch on to her voice, but it sounds tooooo forced that is irritating to even finish the damn song (mainly the song I’m talking is on the Tapemaster INC Vol 14 Future of R&B).
Teedra’s song is alright, she needs a catchy hook tho so it will appeal to the general public, like what Rihanna’s doing…
What????Why she need a catchy hook for?Teedra’s music has substance and a feel that is been missed by many female artist today. She reminds me of Minnie Riperton mixed with Patrice Rushen. But still has her own sound.CS still listen to everyday. Her music is that good music.I wish they play her more on the radio.

Amerie hasnt had any successful albums? You people are D-U-M-B.
Haven’t you heard?
Gold is the new platinum and last time I checked both of Ameries albums have gone gold easily with very little promo from the label. If Amerie got the Beyonce treatment she could sell 2.5 like B-Day. I’m sure Beyonce and Colombia still haven’t recouped all the money it cost to promote the hell outta this bitch.
Amerie is dope. Take Control was crap, but lets thank Cee-Lo for that. The production was shit. Amerie’s performance was mediocre at best, but given the material, I dont blame her. “Losing You”, “Some Like It”, “Thats What You Are”, “Gotta Work”, “Paint Me Over”, and “When Loving You Was Easy” all sound damn good.
I’m gonna pretend that I didn’t read that comparison to Christina Milian. lol

Usually, Jay-Z “saves” songs that are, at best, mediocore. But even Hov can’t save that “Umbrella” joint. Rihanna seems like a sweet girl, but I’m not feeling that song whatsoever. Honestly, I haven’t really liked any of Ri-Ri’s songs since “Pon De Replay.” But she’s still doing her thang, so I’m not mad.
Can’t hear the rest of the songs, so, with the exception of Teedra Moss, maybe that’s a good thing.

Mr. Austin needs to stick with writing….and this song sounds like a snap record. GARBAGE!
Ms. Moses is just ill as fuck! LOVE HER!
Ms. Amerie is unique and holds her own on the track without guess rappers/appearances. She has created a nice career based on her and not what a rapper did for her. LOVE HER!
Ms. Rihanna I want to like this girl and she is still young and trying but her voice seriously annoys me! Not even JayZ can save this track.

i heard that paint me over song and loving you aint easy song and they were really good. so this whole thing about amarie releasing garbage is a joke.
her label still has her because with their roaster alot of people on thier label are not selling like they should and amarie is probably one of the ones who do sell but like people want her to sale. she has two solid albums one being critically acclaimed with two grammy nods and great reviews.
not to mention both have went gold and now are way past 500k units. amarie aint goin nowhere
teedra moses never really got into her until lately. i like her vocals and her music is hot so i look for more from her
the rest are not worth a pot to piss in!
