VIDEO: LIL MAMA - LIP GLOSS

Thursday, April 5, 2007

Last month we introduced you to Lil Mama, the 17 year-old rapper from NYC and yall lit her a new one. Homegirl wasn’t paying attention to what yall had to say and went out and made a video for that “lip gloss” song anyway. I’m not gonna lie, I bump this song sometimes!

We wanted to point a few things out though; word is the chick can actually rap - this song just doesn’t really prove that. And peep Kimora Lee Simmons’ “KLS” Charm Bracelet lip gloss in the beginning. Gotta love Kimora.

Check out for Lil Mama’s new album “Voice of The Young People” when it hits stores later this year. In the meanwhile, check her myspace page..

I am not sure about the song as I am definitely not her demographic.I haven’t be standing at a locker in quite a few years..but the way her face looks neither has she.

I’m not so sure what her ‘lip gloss’ is supposed to represent. I’m thinkin’ it has GOT to be a metaphor for something else. If not, the song has no point and makes absolutely no sense. It doesn’t really sound bad, as far as production goes. But what is she sayin’. ‘My lip gloss be poppin’? HUH?

She sounds like a young Yo-Yo though.

15.

I actually liked the song and video. It isn’t any worse then this other crap that’s out now a days. The video was age appropriate, cute, and simple.

Akilah

Thursday, April 5, 2007 /

#14 I was thinking the same thing. She’s probably being discreet and subtle being that she’s 17. She could of did a Foxy and just talked out right about her ill na na.

18.

queshia

Thursday, April 5, 2007 /

She sounds better without that beating on the bleachers beat in the back ground I think this song is appealing for the under 21 crowd If they can get crunk on chicken noodles and soda why not lip gloss.

19.

true

Thursday, April 5, 2007 /

Im not gonna lie, the video was the shiznizz and the choreography was tight, but i agree that this song is frickin pointless! i thought after chickin noodle soup and all those other stupid songs, people would stop with that…apparently not…ahhhh my culture…

20.

Soft-n-Cunt

Thursday, April 5, 2007 /

I rarely say anything is cute. But I liked this. It was age-appropriate. And the other poster is right - there’s something extra old and hard about a 16-year-old rappin’ about her p*. I think the premise of her magical lip gloss is cute. I can get wit it.

21.

LMAO!!!!! @ # 2 & 6

……DEAD the JEM comments……(I am litterally in tears right now) Dang, that took me back. Str8 old school. Damn, I love these posts.

As for Lil Mama…this is a bit out of my realm but I do think this will appeal greatly to junior high and high school chicketies. To Lil Mama’s credit I am impressed that she was talking about things a girl her age should be. Instead of Pop Lockin & Dropin It.
You know Kimora’s lipgloss sales just shot up by 100%.

24.

She's Soulfull

Thursday, April 5, 2007 /

Um, I’m convinced this is a KLS/L’Oreal commercial disguised as a music video. Either way, I’m cosigning with #1.

25.

miss missy

Thursday, April 5, 2007 /

I’m 25…but I gotta admit it: the beat is tight, her flavor reminds of Da’ Brat, despite the juvenile lyrics. Should be a hit with the 10-13 age group. What, would you rather hear her rap about “my bubble gum” and how “you can’t have a piece”?

26.

jewel13

Thursday, April 5, 2007 /

LMAO #2 . I had that Gem doll with the light up earrings. Why was her ass so big and drag queen like? That doll was at least 13″ inches tall. Damn I’m old.

Anyhoo, I guess the young’ns will like it. “my lips so luscious, using Mac brushes, givin all the boys crushes” GTFOH

27.

crazydinmples_nyc

Thursday, April 5, 2007 /

It is age appropriate and cute for the girls. She is dancing and rapping to her age group not to us old heads.

28.

Tmommie3

Thursday, April 5, 2007 /

I think this song and video is age appropriate and I like that it went back in the day when it was just a hard beat and rapping……..I was listening to her and I think she’s got some skills, I would be interested in hearing the rest of her CD……..I am glad she came out correctly, not showing her boobs or tail……..very age appropiate……..do you Lil mama…….the dancing was off the chain!

29.

kaykay

Thursday, April 5, 2007 /

everybody is being really nice this is garbage i think it is pointless and stupid this chick is ugly and they say she is a good rapper well it’s not shown in this video. further the girl keeps saying “what you know about me” what the hell does that have to do with a song about LIPGLOSS

30.

31.

Tmommie3

Thursday, April 5, 2007 /

to #29……….”what you know about me” is part of the hook of the song……..It’s not that serious just a fun song for the teenagers…….It’s better than always talking about bling, cars and hoe’s. Alot of that stuff doesn’t make sense!

32.

Young Eaz

Thursday, April 5, 2007 /

The fact is she’s a young girl. The song is cute n catchy for what it is…. but i guess ya’ll would rather hear a 14 yr old sing about sex rather than lipgloss.

33.

SoSad

Thursday, April 5, 2007 /

It’s a catchy song. I mean the rappin with the handclapping was good. Seriously there are no young female rappers so thats good she tryin to rep for the teens. I dug it!

34.

When she was rapping without the beat I think she did fine. However, the beat and the song was horrible But she’s cute though. I think it’s ok for young people. I really feel for the next generation because they are not going to have a chance to know what “real music” is. (Unless their parents or grandparents put them on) I am still ROFL with “my lip gloss be poppin”! LMAO!!

38.

new yorker

Thursday, April 5, 2007 /

@kaykay haha you’re so right. the song is pointless but at the same time, kids nowadays don’t have anything semi-positive to listen to so i guess for them, it’s ok.

and this girl cannot be 16/17 ppl!! she looks older than me and i know i look young but damn

i think this da video is tight and IT IS appropriate for girl who are like in high school and down…i’m asuming that most of u here are problably 18 or older???i dunno, but i like the whole concept of the video its very clean and colorfull

43.

Atl_1987

I saw her on an episode of the Black Carpet on BET and she has a really good head on her shoulders–and this song doesn’t show her talent. But yeah, I’d prefer that my 15 year old sister be into this rather than songs about pop lock and dropping it, rocking her hips, or putting on her damn “freak um dress”…

44.

kaykay

this song she be apart of that kid bop u know with all the white little kids singing remaking songs or apart of the disney channel disney channel she can be the next raven simone pretending to be 14 when she really 21 lol

48.

akamissj

Thursday, April 5, 2007 /

I have no comment because at 25 years old, I’m not in her age demographic either. I know it’s definitely not for me but I’m not going to knock it because this is the kind of light-hearted stuff that maybe teenagers should be listening instead of “Freakum Dress” or songs all about sex. Good for her, maybe she’ll start a movement. My only semi-negative comment would be, this does not look 17. But I remember when I was in high school there were girls just like her who looked grown already.

49.

Thursday, April 5, 2007 /

Gimme a break, music doesn’t have to be “meaningful” or deep to be music, really. I think to be whatever her age is, and her trying to break through this song is perfect fun for high school chicks and their lipgloss. I don’t put this song in the “music is dead” category, she’s a kid making songs for kids, that’s it. Plus her litte break down no music type shit was tight, she can rap.

Thursday, April 5, 2007 /

I’m sorry like I said before that adolescent girl don’t need to be talking about how her lips are attracting guys. It’s just inappropiate to me and she’s sending the wrong message to these already fast ass little girls.

Make a song about applying for college or something, versus how your lips make guys crush on you.

Damn peoples is harsh in this mutha. Aint nothing new though,I gotta stop acting all surprise and shit though. I didnt hear all of the song but I caught the ending, I just watched the video but she is cute. She does remind me of a young Yo-yo. But Im around her age and I really dont get down with that type of music. You know Chicken noodle soup and Lip Gloss. My Mother turned me on to her type of music. So That would make me a young oldhead. But much luck to Lil Mama.

I think it is cute, age appropriate, and I know the little girls will love it! She is aiming at a younger demographic and lipgloss concerns them. I also appreciate that all the kids are dressed appropriately and stylishly! See, you can be cute and keep on your clothes!

I was actually surprised by how good she can dance. We might have a rappin ciara on our hands lol…..anyway i agree that the lyrics were kinda wack but its 4 da kids so its whateva. Oh and this chick KNOW she aint no damn 17! She look older than Ciara and we all know ciara has the face of a 30 yr old lol! Oh and if yall missed it here is ciara performing like a boy on april 3rd. It was ok, but she needs to learn some breath control cause her vocals were soundin a hot shitty mess!http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1mkw6_ciaralikeaboydancinwiththestars

I’m so mad her cd is titled Voice of the Young People. Girl, no. If that is the case, I fear for my generation. Enough is enough.
I like that the video is colorful..but that does not redeem this sorry excuse of a song. Maybe it’s the color contacts or the excessive weave but she does NOT look 17.

65.

cassie fbaby

Thursday, April 5, 2007 /

Those are her real eyes, you can tell cause they looed transperent and color contacts make yer eyes look extra alien like and fake. She might have had her already light color enhanced tho.

Real talk- Kimora is a beast with that product placement of KLS… you betta work, bitch!

Also, this song isn’t for twenty-somethings, its for the teeny-bopper set and I rather like it for the young cats.

My only concern is the baby she’s holding… I hope she’s not promoting teenage motherhood.

Lastly, I heard Swiss say that she spits harder than some dudes in the industry now so…

AFTER SEEING OHIO STATE’S GREG ODEN SHE COULD BE AS YOUNG AS SHE SAYS SHE IS BECAUSE HIS ASS LOOKS LIKE HE’S A GOOD 45 INSTEAD OF 19!

It’s a little annoying, but the girl definitely flows better than most cats out right now, especially the younger ones. I’m expecting big things when she tackles better subject matter.

Man yall need to chill out 4real….

The song is catchy and good for her age group. She don’t need to be rappin bout “gettin some head” and all dat. Take the song for what it is, damn! A cute song, for cute girls….point blank

73.

Divakai

Thursday, April 5, 2007 /

I think that the video is very cute and also very age appropriate. Shes not scantily clad, yet still very pretty and stylish. Her style of rap does remind me alot of YOYO/Mc Lyte. Shyt if that other girl can make a song called Chicken Noodle soup with a soda on the side and have that be a huge hit with young kids and teens than why not lipgloss. Not something Ill be dancing to on the dancefloor or pumping out my radio speakers but again, I must keep in mind that the song has a younger target audience. The dancing was good, her rapping childlike but still better than some of what I have heard in recent years! I’d rather hear a 17 yearold rap about lipgloss than getting it on and popping or down and dirty with with some boy.

74.

TheMastermind

Thursday, April 5, 2007 /

Cute kid…
Cute little performance…
Age appropriate(I think!?!)…

Not exactly my demographic so im not a big fan of it and the song can be taken as a subliminal message in which Lip Gloss actually means otherwise but im gonna just believe she is innocent till proven.

75.

Chanté

Thursday, April 5, 2007 /

I think that’s more appropriate for girls her age than TEAIRRA MARI singing “make her feel good” and “i don’t give a fuck” and CASSIE talking about giving head.

She dresses like a teenager. Not like Teairra Mari or Cassie.

Raps about something cute, fun and sexy but not “grown sexy”.

Video is appropriate too, and reflects the normal world of teenagers. No ass or titties, and too short shorts.

She has skills, the breakdown part when she’s holding the baby proves it.

Not something I’d buy but something I’d definitely give to teens in my fam.

YES finally a teen who dresses like and talks the way teens are supposed to.

PROPS TO LIL MAMA!!!!
