Beyonce remade a song called “Still In Love (Kissing You)”, but it’s being reported she never had permission to record the song and is being hit with a lawsuit:
According to a lawsuit filed yesterday in Manhattan Federal Court by music administators, Beyonce allegedly never obtained proper clearance to cover a song called “I’m Kissing You,” originally co-written by a singer named Des’ree — famous for her 1994 smash hit, “Gotta Be.” Des’ree’s version was used in Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 film “Romeo and Juliet,” Beyonce’s version can be found on the re-release of her album, “B’Day.”
In the lawsuit, Des’ree and her reps claim that Beyonce, along with her record company people, originally tried to work out a deal to use the song. When they weren’t satisfied with the proposed terms — which included not being able to change the title or make a music video for the song — Beyonce’ allegedly blew off copyright law completely, and recorded the song and video without permission. The song was eventually released on Beyonce’s album, “B’Day – Deluxe Edition” on April 3, 2007, with the title “Still in Love (Kissing You).”
Des’ree is suing to halt distribution of the song, video and album and seeking at least $150,000 in damages. READ MORE
Looks like Bee went hard on them and said she gonna do this song for her man. I’ve always like Des’ree though, she has a beautiful voice and I found it odd for Beyonce to remake the song anyway seeing how it was released and plenty people know about it. I like Beyonce but Des’ree sung it better hands down. You can tell that Des’ree really meant every word she said as she evoked pain and love into the song which made it so beautiful.

that just basically spoilt such a pure and beautiful song. Des’ree deliberately didn’t put those extra words in the song becasue it isn’t needed as i’m sure she wanted to make the song simple but meaningful at the same time. Beyonce unfortunately doesn’t really do that. Her most emotionally good song was Dangerously In Love but her new albunm which i have, i dunno man, she doesn’t really connect with the music so much that you really do actally fell what she is saying. I think she should just stick to her girl anthems and really dancey songs cause that is what i think she is best at. Powerful songs however, she should just leave it to the more experienced and those with stronger voices.
Beyonce can sing, we all know that but whoever said that beyonce is one of the greatest premier singers of all time, SIT YO ASS DOWN!! that comment shocked me. beyonce is not on the same level as whitney, chaka, aretha, billie, patti, mariah, gladys or tina! even christina aguilera can become a one of the greatest singers if she chose better songs as she has such a beautiful voice.

I see no competition. I love Beyonce, always have, from the very first days of DC, when I was 4. However, Des’ree has an appeal in this song that I doubt anybosy would be able to recreate. Don’t get me wrong, I also love Beyonce’s version, but it doesn’t send chills down my spine like Des’ree. (I also hate Beyonce’s psycho spiel about making love mid-song.) Fell in love with song after watching Romeo & Juliet when it came out. Desree’s version is more passionate has more soul and you can feel it it’s meaningful. Then comes along Beyonce and flips it into her own love song to her husband and the song completely looses the plot. Desree wins this one hands down, No Doubt.

I like Beyonce when she was with Destiny’s Child and when she first started solo with her Dangerously in Love album. I noticed that she didn’t have as much flack with her first album that she did with her B’Day album. Both versions are very good, I like them both in their own right. B should have complied with the rules, which were not bad or ridiculous. It is obvious that B owes D money. No matter how much/how little B sampled, she still sampled illegally.

Des’ree’s song is better, the beat, the words and the voice. It’s unisexual – beyonce’s talking about a boy and quite frankly with the additional lyrics, she makes the song very cheesy. it’s enjoyable and beyonce has a nice voice, but if u’ve heard the original then u’ll definitely like the original better – bcos it really is better! and yes, she does ruin the song.
DES’REE defiinitely has a SUPERIOR QUALITY VOICE – BEYONCÉ LACKS the richness and feeling that DES’REE has. And not only is Des’ree a talented singer – she also composed this beautiful song. Beyconé has a nice voice, nothing to write home about. What she has going for her most is her great looks and image – and I think that’s cool – good for her. But where great voice and musicality is concerned – she’s definitely not the winner here.
i love the original version by deseree. when i first saw that romeo and juliet movie long time ago, that song was the only thing that stood out to me. the remake doesn’t have the power behind it that make you wanna cry like desree’s version does. and on the album cover inside it says that ms. knowles wrote it, which she switched it up a bit but she should had gave desree her props. originality is key!
