Desree’s version is way better. “Kissing You” has always been one of my favorite songs and I was actually excited to hear Bey’s version, but I was left disappointed. Bey doesn’t have enough passion or something in her voice for this song. It sounds like she’s trying to miick Desree’s intensity, but it’s just not happening. And then she ruined the song for me when she started hollin’ “I Love You”, you don’t always have to yell. She ruined the serenity and peacefulness of that song. In a nutshell, Bey, SIT YO ASS DOWN! NO ONE can do a Des’ree cover and make it sound as good. Lets just face the facts. Beyonce is a video slut… Meaning she sales her music with her breast’s… Des’ree however is completely different. Thanks for the compliment! All said, I think Beyonce is talented and, as proven by all the comments directed towards her here, one of our most valued Black performers. I’m just not a stan and I think she’s a tad overrated. I mainly like to have a little fun at her expense.

It’s amazing that no other Black singer has inspired such strong debate between two extremes: the one’s who like her, and the one’s who don’t. Our singing heroines are usually universally loved (Chaka, ‘Retha, Diana, Mary J., Whitney, Patti etc.).

What is it about her that divides us so? Some might say that it is because she’s just THAT special. But I think that it is because where there is smoke……there seems to be some missing component. It could be there is a sneaking suspicion that she does not think for herself and if you look closely, you can see “behind the curtain”.
