Amerie’s back with her third album, “Because I Love It,” and it’s nothing short of mediocre. Amerie always seems to give the people something they like, but never can sell solid numbers or give a great album. It’s always “okay,” or “good” or “I mean, it was cool.” I tried to be an Amerie fan (as I have been in the past) this time around, but with the failed single, “Take Control” (and it’s horrible video) and the fact that this album is absolutely all over the place, I just couldn’t bring myself to get into it – as much as I wanted to. But I don’t think it’s all bad. Amerie actually gives you some good songs on the album, it’s just something about it to me that sounds incomplete. Maybe it’s because we’ve heard all of these songs before the album’s release. A lot of the material just sounds old to me. Anyway, “Because I Love It” is set for May 15th release.

I feel the same way. I mean its much better than TOUCH but not as good as All I Have. I think she really let who she was show on this cd but her cd’s always lack something. Soul? heart? I dunno. But I love Crush, When Loving U Was Easy, Paint Me Over, And Someone Up There. Hot Songs.
And the fact that half the public heard half her cds even b4 this official leak isnt gonna help sales. Some say Quality isnt about sales and that true but if u wanna be in the game u have to sell some units and im not sure she will/can. Especially in the rnb world since people treat her like a low rent beyonce, which she is NOT.
My favorite is “some like it”. I think all the songs you posted are good. The May 15th release is for the Uk, not the u.s.

She is doing a lot of promotional work overseas, which, from the performances, she doing very well. A lot of people doubt her skills, but this woman is smart. Amerie is hustling, and she is making a name for her, which is more than other artist could do.
Take Control is #13 in the UK. I personally LOVE this album.

I’ve been rooting for Amerie from the beginning but after hearing ALL the snippets of her new album (on some German site, forgot the name) I gotta say that’s her weakest album. “All I Have” is very good, “Touch” is flawless, this one is boring. Besides “Crush” (decent) “Paint Me Over” (awesome) and “Gotta Work” (contagious) everything else is average to wack. The productions aren’t cutting it. I won’t be buying it. But like MJ/RNB said, she’s a hustler and good at business, so I don’t worry, she gonna get paid and she has crazy support overseas.

I’ve been looking for the “paint me over” for the longest. I have both of the first cds but I’m not sure I’m going to get this one.
I agree w/other comments. I tried to be an Amerie fan….I really did, but for some reason she never quite does it! The only song as of late that I like from her is “That’s What You Are”…that song is fiyah! I heard it when I went overseas.
How come she only has 1 (2 at best) hot single from each album?

For me it’s a very very good album, I like it much better than her other albums. I love Crush, Crazy Wonderful, When lovin you was easy, Paint me over, Somebody up there and All roads. Take Control and Gotta Work are okay. Hate2loveU and Make me believe have to grow on me. Forecast should have been an own song! I loved That’s what U R, but for me it’s too old now.

i’ve been a huge fan of amerie’s since day one. i’ve always liked her voice and the vocal arrangements on all her songs. I’m sure she’s a huge hit overseas. maybe the US isn’t ready for the go-go style? or maybe we’re too stuck on the normalcy of the music we’re accustomed to hearing. it’s unfortunate that she can’t catch on as well here. and i appreciate ya’ll always hookin us up with the latest music!!
there is something about her voice that i don’t really like but she seems to have decent music on the album. ver voice kind of reminds me of a softer version of someone i won’t mention because i don’t want to piss anyone off.
she is beautiful though. anyhow, i hope she has a lot of success with the album.
Well I am a BIG Amerie fan and I am loving this album. It is better than Touch. This album has a throwback feel of the 80′s. CRUSH is my jam and that should be a single. Thats What U R should have been a single as well. Crazy Wonderful is very good and so is Hate2LoveU and Paint Me Over. When Loving You Was Easy is very good too. Put it like this, the whole album is good except for Take Control.
I will definately be buying thia and I really recommend it!!!
and to #15, yes I heard her sing live before and she is a damn good singer. She sang live in Baltimore when the sound was messing up. She performed Why Dontr We fall In Love and she sounds just like the record!

At first I was not sure if I was feeling what she was putting out because it was just snippets.I can get into her material probably except Gotta Work.
Ok CL I was starting to get worried last night when I was trying to leave a comment and there was no place to leave one. Anyways, im a lil worried aboutt this cd. The only song that sounded semi interesting was the last one “hate2loveu” other than that i am feeling some major floppage.
Brian – admit that you are anti-Amerie from day one…I have played her songs from this new album to people and they really love the songs. “Take Control” is hot in the clubs. Rolling Stone said it was one of the best songs of 2006. The video was definitely wack…I give you props on that, but the album and songs are good, and I just think you really never cared for her, and that’s ok, but your judgement is far below fair.
after hearing all the songs in full it sounds much better, because i was disappointed when i heard the snippets. the U.S version is suppose to be different so theres still hope. but the album’s decent, i give it a 6 out of 10.
btw. anybody else notice that all these songs are in mono, i was wondering why some of them sounded unmastered.

this album is amazing. GOTTA WORK is like 1 THING but 10x BETTER! i don’t get why people are not into amerie’s music. it’s so original. i wished she wasn’t so underrated. she was talent. i love the instruments in the songs and the way she uses her voice. i hope this doesn’t flop. her last two albums were gold, hopefully this can go platinum. amerie deserves it, this album shows her hard work.
Amerie, much like Cassie, Rhianna, Teirra Marie, and Christina Milian (amongst others) should model instead of ATTEMPT to sing!

Ok after a few listens i’m feeling the album pretty much. I honestly think its better than Touch. I see what she was tryin to do. Not to say she pulled it off flawlessly but its pretty good attempt at being creative. But where Amerie falls is that they don’t promote her well in the US. There is at least one song on this album that could do well and really thats all it takes to get people to notice.
I’m feeling the album. IT’s the best rnb album of 2007.. but it’s not amerie’s best. She’ll never do something good as All I Have again.. This album isn’t better than Touch either but itz good.. i likeeeeee

I’m really digging this album. You can’t compare it to her first two because, sonically, they’re totally different. This one has a retro feel and i “love it.” definately will be picking it up when it drops in the US.
Back to the studio….not feelin’ any of this. Maybe it’ll grow on me later, but as for right now, it’s back to the lab AGAIN!

Paint Me Over is definately going to be one of the best songs of 2007, but the rest of the album well that I’ve heard so far is just not cutting it, there just bad. Paint Me Over should definately do well if she releases it.Well hope she makes some changes for the US release and does well this time around.
I downloaded the album today.I think its great.Just like she had the 80s feel like Christina A had the 40s type theme.Her past albums were good, but I think this was is great.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM!!!! It is different from All I Have and Touch. It is better than Touch because this album has more better songs and more potential singles. I really like CRUSH,HATE2LOVEU and CRAZY WONDERFUL. I love how she did the 80′s feel!! She is showing that she is different from the other r&b chicks out there. I also love WHEN LOVING YOU WAS EASY, PAINT ME OVER, ALL ROADS AND THATS WHAT U R. I will definately be buying this album when it comes out!!!
Unless this site is based in the UK; the release date is incorrect. It’s July 18th for the US and the tracklist will actually be different.
As for the album I think it’s a really solid album and the best R&B album to be released in a LONG time. It has some of the best songs of her career, the year and the decade so far. (Yes, even better than “1 Thing”, which has been claimed at the R&B song of this decade.)
The 80′s vibe isn’t for everyone though, but I suggest you give it another listen.
