It would be easy to say “LOVE is LOVE” if we lived in a society where woman of all colors were seen as beautiful, BUT WE DON’T. The phenomenon of “successful” black men dating outside their race is just that, a phenomenon. It’s not a coincidence and it’s not a handful of guys just happening to be attracted to and falling for non-black woman. This is not a new trend, this is something that has been prevelant in America since the beginning of time and ignoring that fact is just a way to over simplyfy what is a complex dynamic of the history of race in America.

We can’t underestimate the effect society has on our perception of what’s attractive and what’s not. And when that perception involves, negating the attractivness, beauty and likability of an entire race of people, there’s a problem. It doesn’t mean dating outside your race is wrong, but when your preferences completely ignore the race your in, you need to take a long hard look at yourself and figure out why.

I date outside of my race all the time, but I still find black men attractive and don’t think negatively of them. Not all interacial daters feel that way though. I know Asian girls who wouldn’t be caught dead with and asian guy…that’s a problem. There’s something wrong when you can’t find beauty in your own race. There’s a self hate issue. It’s almost as if their embarresed to be asian, or they want to only have have 1/2 asian children. It’s really sick. I guess that’s why Asian men and Black woman have the highest rates of being single. I guess we should just start dating each other.

As far as Keenen, Brian and Taye go….I have nothing negative to say about them or their relationships and I’m not going to pretend to know what their mindset is. My comments were about the macro level discussion, not their indiviual dating habits.

One more thing, #308 pointed out something that I’ve been thinking about for awhile… Why do so many black women always claim that some R&B singer is gay or is on the DL?

For instance, I never once considered John Legend to be gay until I got on this site (and another blog that is like this one, but it will remain nameless) and started reading some of the comments that people were making about him. There were like 50 different females saying that John Legend was gay! What??!! I mean the dude never once struck out to me as gay. And I love his music and I have been a fan of his for a long time but never once did he do something that made me think that he was gay.

explain the best of both worlds thing to me. i never really understood why mixed kids are considered to have the best of both worlds.

First of all, let me try to educate some folks about the whole myth that black women are just bitter.

I am an educated (post-grad) mixed-race woman. I have extensively researched this subject on an academic level. Non-black women first have to understand the historical implications of black women continually being subjugated in this country (and around the world for that matter).

Just referring to “American” history, black women were continually raped and abused during slavery (by men). In the twentieth century black women were the backbone of many movements (including the Women’s Movement and the Civil Rights Movement) and were never fully acknowledged for their contributions compared to white women and black men, respectively. In fact, during the 80’s (and still today) black women were labeled as “welfare queens” during the so-called “war on poverty” initiated by Ronald Reagan.

The reason why I mention these FACTS is because we have to understand how black women have been (and continually are) perceived by non-black women in this country. Yes, 70% of black women in this country are single for many reasons, one being that there are more black women than men, and another reason is that black women, including Asian men are the least desired of the sexes. This is a sad, but true, fact. So when sistahs see a Michael Jordan, a Kobe Bryant, a Keenen Ivory Wayans, and a Brian Mcknight (all successful black men) with a women that is not black…it becomes problematic, and is seemingly a slap in the face. How can you blame black women, or say that they/we need to “step up our game” especially considering the history we have endured for centuries? We’ve been on top of our game from jump (particularly when we were leading our brothas and sistahs through the underground railroad, and doing MLK’s and Malcolm x’s dirty work)!

For some of you who think these facts have nothing to do with the topic at hand, I say you are wrong. It has everything to do with the reality that black men admit preferring non-black women because black women have so-called “attitudes” and are bitter. How ridiculous! It was that so-called “attitude” that raised you and prepared you for the real world! For those who didn’t get that implication, I’m talking about the black mothers that raised us all…mostly all by themselves.

Being a product of an interracial marriage, on one hand I sympathize with people who see love before color. Yet still, as a woman of color who continually has to deal with being apart of perhaps the most subjugated minority group in the U.S. I am still saddened by the lack of respect and “love” from those who pretend to be down for the sistahs, but behind closed doors it’s a different story.

I believe love is love. I do have to admit that when I see some of these brothers who continually date women of other races, I lose interest in them.

As a black woman marrying a white man, this needs to be said. This is freakin 2007, people! There is absolutely nothing wrong with dating outside your race. With the country becoming increasingly mixed with so many cultures and races, it’s hard not to date outside of your race. Now I’m not saying that those who prefer to date just black people are wrong, but you have to be open to love from everyone. There should NOT be interracial marriages, Not because i hate white people.

But because with this white wash white supremacist( racist,western) society, a Non white cannot be “married” to a white, marriage requires co equalness. a Non white is MINOR, IE minority and second class to a white partner. Non white regardless of Social , financial circumstances will be SECONDCLASS to the white partner.

Biracial children cannot be “parented” by a white parent, because a biracial child is a NON white like the black parent.
