I don’t think there is anything wrong with an individual dating outside of his/her race. God doesn’t discriminate and neither should we. For example, when I see Seal and Heidi Klum who are an interracial (seemingly) happily married couple with beautiful children, I think it’s a wonderful thing.

I don’t think that black women are necessarily “closed-minded” when it comes to dating outside of their race. I think if anything other races are more closed minded when it comes to dating and marrying black women. I also don’t care if a blk man dates outside of his race. I personally wouldn’t do it. But it doesn’t bother me one bit.

I am a single female, but its by choice. No matter what I’ve been through with blk men (and its been some shit), it still doesn’t deter me from loving them. I have 9 beautiful blk brothers, who rate and favor along the lines of: Idris Elba and the WINANS (not Wayans), and I love them to death. Blk men mold me. I am very attracted to blk men. That isn’t slave mentality. That is pure attraction and love for my fellow blk man.

I think the whole inter racial dating thing - black men dating white women- comes from years…no, no, centuries of being told that you’re not good enough to have a white woman. I really don’t think black women’s anger/disappointment with seeing a black man with a white woman has anything to do with race. I really think it goes back to how the media portrays black women and white women. White women are lifted up as THE standard of beauty around the world. That’s why so many black, latina, asian, indian, women try to “mainstream” their physical features. India has an entire industry dedicated to keeping Indian women “light-skinned” b/c they are afraid of being “too dark”.
America and its European descendants have done an EXCELLENT job in forcing their definitions of beauty and success on the world.

Okay I can feel the sistas on here who get mad or upset when they see black men with white women because some of these men, rich or poor, only seek out women who aren’t black. How do I know this to be true, is because I have a few friends and my brother who would never look twice at a black women or they would look and say she’s cute but she’s black and they too much drama.

However, me being latino and black I can say that not all people who date outside their race are doing so because of self hate. Both of my parents are very proud of heritage but they just happen to fall in love with someone of a different race and I’m for it, if it’s really love.

Now for the sister I have a question for you. Could it just be that when a black man gets rich or get some money they tend to move to the suburbs and they usually go out to ritzy places where it’s majority white. Could it be that so many black men who are rich date white women because that’s who they are surrounded around and who they live next to. The only time I have a problem with Black men dating white women or any woman who is not of color is when she is ugly/fugly/homely….I see so many fine ass black men with this fat and/or plain white girls and I think to myself “damn homie, is she the best you could do?”

It would be easy to say “LOVE is LOVE” if we lived in a society where woman of all colors were seen as beautiful, BUT WE DON’T. The phenomenon of “successful” black men dating outside their race is just that, a phenomenon. It’s not a coincidence and it’s not a handful of guys just happening to be attracted to and falling for non-black woman. This is not a new trend, this is something that has been prevelant in America since the beginning of time and ignoring that fact is just a way to over simplyfy what is a complex dynamic of the history of race in America.

We can’t underestimate the effect society has on our perception of what’s attractive and what’s not. And when that perception involves, negating the attractivness, beauty and likability of an entire race of people, there’s a problem. It doesn’t mean dating outside your race is wrong, but when your preferences completely ignore the race your in, you need to take a long hard look at yourself and figure out why.

I date outside of my race all the time, but I still find black men attractive and don’t think negatively of them. Not all interacial daters feel that way though. I know Asian girls who wouldn’t be caught dead with and asian guy…that’s a problem. There’s something wrong when you can’t find beauty in your own race. There’s a self hate issue. It’s almost as if their embarresed to be asian, or they want to only have have 1/2 asian children. It’s really sick. I guess that’s why Asian men and Black woman have the highest rates of being single. I guess we should just start dating each other.

As far as Keenen, Brian and Taye go….I have nothing negative to say about them or their relationships and I’m not going to pretend to know what their mindset is. My comments were about the macro level discussion, not their indiviual dating habits.

There were like 50 different females saying that John Legend was gay! What??!! I mean the dude never once struck out to me as gay. And I love his music and I have been a fan of his for a long time but never once did he do something that made me think that he was gay.

Thank you Lashonda. Judah, I find it quite cheap, petty, and hateful to attack somebody’s sexuality just because they don’t adhere to your narrow-minded views. Interracial dating is a issue but is blown way out of proportion. The main problem within the black community there is a lack of identity and pride. It’s funny because just a week ago I might have been the one angry because the images the media gives us constantly show Black successful Men in the arms of Non-White Women but after my recent experiences with Black Men NOT ANY MORE. I have chosen to no longer date black men after experiencing such dysfunction & chaos & dishonesty from 3 DIFFERENT Black Men the same week(these were Men that I was supposedly in the stages of getting to know)! I’m a firm believer that you can’t help who you fall in love with. I spent my entire young childhood & early school career all the way up until 11th grade in the UK & Europe. There are so many areas of the world where Black Women are respected & genuinely appreciated & endeared & loved (ironically enough 95% of my boyfriends were of European or Asian descent not too many brothers around at that time). But here in the US that is not the case especially from our own Black Males. It took me many years to realise that it IS what it IS & I AM who I AM & the man that finally receives all my gifts will possess some for the greatest treasures in the world. If the couples above are happy with who they are with then I am happy. Cause love is wherever you can find it & these days that seems to be most difficult thing in the world to find.

explain the best of both worlds thing to me. i never really understood why mixed kids are considered to have the best of both worlds.

First of all, let me try to educate some folks about the whole myth that black women are just bitter.

I am an educated (post-grad) mixed-race woman. I have extensively researched this subject on an academic level. Non-black women first have to understand the historical implications of black women continually being subjugated in this country (and around the world for that matter).

Just referring to “American” history, black women were continually raped and abused during slavery (by men). In the twentieth century black women were the backbone of many movements (including the Women’s Movement and the Civil Rights Movement) and were never fully acknowledged for their contributions compared to white women and black men, respectively. In fact, during the 80’s (and still today) black women were labeled as “welfare queens” during the so-called “war on poverty” initiated by Ronald Reagan.

The reason why I mention these FACTS is because we have to understand how black women have been (and continually are) perceived by non-black women in this country. Yes, 70% of black women in this country are single for many reasons, one being that there are more black women than men, and another reason is that black women, including Asian men are the least desired of the sexes. This is a sad, but true, fact. So when sistahs see a Michael Jordan, a Kobe Bryant, a Keenen Ivory Wayans, and a Brian Mcknight (all successful black men) with a women that is not black…it becomes problematic, and is seemingly a slap in the face. How can you blame black women, or say that they/we need to “step up our game” especially considering the history we have endured for centuries? We’ve been on top of our game from jump (particularly when we were leading our brothas and sistahs through the underground railroad, and doing MLK’s and Malcolm x’s dirty work)!

For some of you who think these facts have nothing to do with the topic at hand, I say you are wrong. It has everything to do with the reality that black men admit preferring non-black women because black women have so-called “attitudes” and are bitter. How ridiculous! It was that so-called “attitude” that raised you and prepared you for the real world! For those who didn’t get that implication, I’m talking about the black mothers that raised us all…mostly all by themselves.

Being a product of an interracial marriage, on one hand I sympathize with people who see love before color. Yet still, as a woman of color who continually has to deal with being apart of perhaps the most subjugated minority group in the U.S. I am still saddened by the lack of respect and “love” from those who pretend to be down for the sistahs, but behind closed doors it’s a different story.

There should NOT be interracial marriages, Not because i hate white people.

But because with this white wash white supremacist( racist,western) society, a Non white cannot be “married” to a white, marriage requires co equalness. a Non white is MINOR, IE minority and second class to a white partner. Non white regardless of Social , financial circumstances will be SECONDCLASS to the white partner.

I totally agree with Denise about “some” things black women need to change about themselves so we won’t be called bitter. It is hard for us though because most black women are the HEAD of their households & you have to be in charge because alot of men don’t know how to be men. I’m 24 & my husband is 28 & I run things. I make more money than him and I take care of our kids and the household & make most of the decisions. He pretty much accepts that. However, he has told me that once he starts making more money, things are going to change. He said he needs to be the man & for know he’s just waiting until he gets his finances together. This is why I think “Rich” Black men flock to white women and Asians. They don’t have the experiences that black women have of having to be “tough” for their families. They are more submissive. A rich black man does not want to wait for a black woman to mold herself into that role of not having to be angry from dealing with racism on a daily basis and worrying about how her kids are going to be fed. Most white women do not grow up with the hardships & fights that black women have to face while rasiing that basketball player or actor to be the man he is. I always find it interesting when the subject of IR dating comes up. So many people are still against it. Why? Yes, we could go on about history and how the effects of slavery are still present in black society. I don’t really see that stopping black men from experiencing what life has to offer…at least in termas of dating women of another race. As blacks/whites/asians/hispanics live together people will begin to have access to others they may not have noticed before. Interests will spark and conversations will begin and attractions will ignite. We cannot live a separatist life. We cannot segregate ourselves from other races to prevent cultures from blending together. Instead of viewing it as the black culture dying out due to mixed race relationships, why not look at it as a coming together of two different cultures? If these two people decide to procreate it is the child that benefits because the child is blessed with the black culture, whatever nationality the white parent might claim, or asian culture (depending on the mix that gets together). These two people are responsible for ensuring that their offspring are duly aware of their heritage from both sides. How is that the black culture dying out? That is a child carrying on the traditions of more than one culture.

Of course, I got ahead of myself and had these people having kids. I just wish that we could let go of race as the predominant factor and realize that we are moving forward in time. Let’s not say/do things that drag us backwards. And when I say us, I mean everyone, not just black people. If you are not a black woman you can’t possibly understand how this makes us feel. We are constantly rejected by our black men. When you see a black man with a woman of another race EVERY SINGLE DAY, it does makes you feel like “What’s wrong with me?!”. It does affect us. We DO NOT hate women of other races. What we are saying is that we JUST want our black men to love us and treat us right. As for men of other races, we’d be happy if they would approach us, but I’ve noticed that many of them don’t. They usually stay within their race or if they date or get married outside of their race, they don’t choose black women. So, sadly it’s like we can’t get the love from our black men or even men from other races. No one wants us. This is something that I don’t understand because we as black women are strong (we have to be because we don’t have anyone to help/support/lean on), we work hard, we care, we are loving, we do the best that we can and then some.
