In the past few years, people thought that Solange had fallen through the cracks. She was pregnant, had a beautiful baby boy, but a failed marriage under her belt – and then rumors swarmed of her and Lil’ Wayne. But all the while, Solange has been writing, being a mother, and looking absolutely stunning while socialiting at random parties with Kelly Rowland and the defunked Teiarra Mari. Not many people heard her first solo effort, “Solo Star,” but Solange proved herself to be a talented young writer, and has since proved herself with writing on big sister Beyonce’s “B’Day” project, as well as the forthcoming “Ms. Kelly” from Kelly Rowland (slated for release June 26th). We always knew that Solange was the quirky, “weird” one out of the bunch, but her quirky, weirdness and maturity comes out a little bit more in these mellow alternative/R&B tracks that were passed along to radio. Remember those photos from Solange’s Houston showcase? Well, I think this is a nice sound for Solange, but I think she needs to take it a few steps further… let’s see what comes of it.

#1 – I don’t like the subject material, thus I hate the song. The beat is okay, but my bias against the lyrics prevents me from appreciating the music.
#2 – Love the lyrics — but the music is too… um… Elevator Music-Like, and the Drums don’t “fit” with the tone of the song. Add some Acoustic Guitar prominently in the song and some different Electric Piano/Keyboard chords played in the background.
That being said, she has a nice voice — she should do Jazz/Neosoul. And, like someone else said, of course they’re going to sound somewhat similar — they’re sisters.

This whole family needs to sit down and get to know each other for things other than what’s going to make them famous. Matthew and Tina Knowles prolly geared Solange toward the “gangsta” crowd of girls that aren’t really impressed by Bey!! ROTFL!! But who knows!!!

I’ll give Solange a chance, because she actually writes, produces, and arranges a lot of her stuff (which is more than I can say for a lot of her peers). If she harnesses it right she could be something special.
The production does have Bilal’s stamp all over it though. I know she said she was working with him for the new album. I can’t wait to hear what that album sounds like…cuz i’m a huge Bilal fan.

White Picket Dreams is hot. She WROTE that song…the harmonies are seamless.
And where ya’ll gettin it from that she sounds like Bee? Not at all. She’s way more eclectic and free. Real funky and uncommon. Almost Neosoul on White Picket… I love it! Can’t say she’s better than Bee vocally but who says everyone has to sound as strong as Bee does on the vocals? That’s HER style…
