This past weekend…Solange performed at a gay pride event… I was kinda xoned out while she was performing..but she sounded soo good. her live performance is pretty good… but then again.. i was rolling.

I like the songs. I cant compare a 21 y/o to a 25 y/o! They are different people with different likes. I think she will do this time around!

I think she’s going for a more neo-soul/RnB sound than her sis and she almost pulls it off but I think her vocals need just a little more work, although she does sound good. Also singing about smoking weed and drinking does not make you sound grown/sexy or more soulful but just about every neo-soul artist has a song about weed so I guess she decided to follow suit. The picket fence song was really good. She should keep going in this direction if nothing else it will help her avoid comparisions with her sis and I like it.Just keep stepping up your vocal game solo although I don’t think you’ll ever be on Beyonce’s level vocally you can still have success.

i have to say that “champagne chronic nightcap” sounds dope. shes giving me tweet in her lower register and giving me amel larrieux in her upper register. her voice has improved leaps and bounds since solo star. her songwriting also shits all over beyonces alleged songwriting.

to me beyonce is definitely the pretty face, but im thinkin solange might be the real vocal and musical talent here.

#1 - I don’t like the subject material, thus I hate the song. The beat is okay, but my bias against the lyrics prevents me from appreciating the music.

#2 - Love the lyrics — but the music is too… um… Elevator Music-Like, and the Drums don’t “fit” with the tone of the song. Add some Acoustic Guitar prominently in the song and some different Electric Piano/Keyboard chords played in the background.

That being said, she has a nice voice — she should do Jazz/Neosoul. And, like someone else said, of course they’re going to sound somewhat similar — they’re sisters.
