“Do you feel any pressure to succeed in a business where T&A runs rampid”?
I love Chrisette Michele, has a Billie Scott voice (Billie Holiday & Jill Scott)
I have a question?
Was she ever critized about her voice while growing up?
How does she take the criticism that people have on her voice because it’s so unique, now?
I have a question that I’ve wanted an answer to for a year and a half now.
You see my name is Toya and I worked for Shalik Berry some time ago and if you know about Chrisette that is her A&R at Def Jam. I am the person who found her demo and introduced her and her music to EVERYONE at the label including Mr. Berry. I worked with her and her management for over six months so my questions for Chrisette are:
Why did she allow me and my partner to get cut out of the deal once she got signed?
Why if she is such a God fearing woman would she LIE about the way she got discovered in all of her interviews when asked?
I have tried to contact her to no avail and I would love to know why after I put my heart into getting her out there would she allow this to happen. I won’t say she is the one who orchestrated the back stabbing no that was her former manager Doug Ellison and my boss but once it occured she never did anything to try to make things right. We were promised so many things that we never received. She was the only unsigned artist I invested my time into because I loved her music and her writing and I truly believed in her. I put myself out there for her but once she got signed she never even looked back to say thank you much less give credit where credit was due. Because I was a young intern and new to the industry I got screwed. My boss took all the credit and received praises from LA Reid and Jay. When I complained I was told “The artist has to bring you in at this point, she has to let the label know who was really behind her, believed in her and discovered her.” She never did that. I just want to know why.
Concrete Loop with the scoop!
Ask her how she went about putting together her demo? I heard she recorded an album full of songs, so ask her what studio and what producers..bascially the process she went through to complete the demo.
blow one #43 amy is the shit
She doesnt look old but her music is inspired from the older artist…so my question to Chrisette Michele is….How old or young are you?
Chrisette, your voice is very unique. Every time I here it I feel like I’m in the classical jazz and blues era with great artists like Billy Holiday or Nat King Cole.So my question for you is this: Do you ever feel pressured into singing like an average contemporary-day artists or looking like one? For instance, are you ever asked to sing pop or look like Beyonce (No disrespect B)? The reason why I ask this is because it’s so common to see talented singers nowadays sell themselves short just to be accepted by the mainstream or to see talentless artists gain more popularity due to the type of image that they portray.
#46 ain’t too bright ! Chrisette sounds so beautiful, looks gorgeous and she is very, very classy. And people stop, PLEASE stop comparing everyone to Beyonce!!! Beyonce’s alright but she’s not real, Chrisette’s that deal. People disagree who cares, ya’ll know what’s up! But everyone that looks good with a voice CANNOT be compared to Beyonce. Chrisette has soul, class and beauty. A rare combination! Bee has no soul!!!! Chrisette I don’t have any questions for you but I love your voice and your style! Simply beautiful!
uht oh at # 63 its gone be sum drama
My Qs: Which producers/collaborators have you worked with on this album and would like to work with in the future? (“Good Girl” sounds like Dr. Dre, it’s awesome)
I also want to know the deal with #63′s comment, Angel PLEASE ask about this, how juicy! And she seems so genuine and lovely in the interview!
Anyway from the interview I love her, she has really pleased me, the same kinda feeling as when I first heard Lauryn, Jaguar, Badu & Winehouse’s albums. Plus she got both her singles (Jay & Nas) released, really impressive!
On another note:
Kawaii you obviously don’t know a lot about Billie Holiday, despite saying you were a fan of hers. I don’t like the way you called Amy Winehouse “crackhouse”, I can only assume based on her image and her “habits”. Did you not realise Billie Holiday had an extremely hard life and not only had constant problems with drink and drug abuse until the end of her life when she died of Cirrhosis of the Liver but also turned to prostitution for money at just 14?
I’m in awe of the talents of Billie, Chrisette AND Amy and I don’t (no matter how people want to) think they are similar enough to compare, along with Alicia, Sarah Vaughn, J.Scott & even god damn Beyonce!
Sorry for that rant, I just can’t stand the way people constantly compare artists, take someone for what they are, not what someone else is! Why do people always feel the need to compare?
First of off I love her voice and style of music. She is a very pretty girl ppl need to quit hating.
Questions:
What kinds of music do you listen to?
Who are you influenced by?
Do you feel that there is a place in the industry for you among the likes of Rihanna and Ciara? You defintely have the talent but do you feel that you have that “look”?
She is pretty and very talented. She sounds really good, I’m looking forward to listening to her music.
My question is:
She was introduced into the music industry with 2 of the biggest names in the hip hop world, does she expect the public to immediately take into her music because of that? Does she feel that was a blessing or she feels people are going to like/not like her because of her associations with Jay and Nas?
Damn damn damn @ 63, Toya Pink!!
What #63 is saying doesn’t seem far fetched, and that scenerio is definetly not unlikely in the music industry. This event should be considered a lesson learned, b/c it happens all the time and will continue, you’ve just got to be more careful and learn your lesson once.
No questions for Chrisette, heard about this lady a minute ago…Good Luck To Her…
She reminds me so much of Jill Scott and Paris Bennett (on her audition), but she has a little more grit to her voice than Jill.
1. Some background info on the “Your Joy” song.
2. Why did she change her singing style? (Because when she had that short blond do she was singing like Jazmine Sullivan)
TOYA PINK…
If you could PLEASE, PLEASE e-mail me, it would be GREATLY appreciated.

Please don’t compare Chrisette and Paris. Chrisette kept it real and Paris sold out. Are heard her sales were doo doo
Chrisette Michelle is one of the flyest new acts to appear in a long time! I love that sultry, raspy voice, and her cool jazz style. Besides that, the woman is incredibly gorgeous and she reps my home – STRONG ISLAND!!! I wanna say big-ups, and I can see her being one of myy favorite singers in the near future. Besides that – can I be her husband? PLEEEASSEE!! Lol…just kidding. Do ya thing, lady.
