Great post Angel! I completely agree. Also let us not forget all the brave men & women serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other areas in harms way.
Thanks^^^^
Let’s not forget us…the ones serving PERIOD…wherever they are.
Have a good day.
Veterans Day is for the one’s serving now. Memorial Day is for the ones who died for our country. Angel did it right.
Much respect to those fighting right now too.
TITO JACKSON:
I understand the difference. There have just been so many troops dying daily that holiday or not they are on my mind, but thanks anyway.
Happy Memorial Day to all and all a good night. Nice post and I hope everybody get to chow down on some ribs like me. R.I.P. to all that lost their lives.
Happy Memorial Day CL Family!!!!!!!!!
Actually #10..u acknowledge BOTH and BOTH days. Always past and present.
Thanks again #8!
*BOTH on BOTH
Remember…
I feel sorry for all these people who got gamed into joining the military.
This country has been hijacked by neo fascist zionists..
Yakub has shown himself.
The battle of armaggeddon has begun and will last until the wheel and the illuminati comes in 2012, we have to ride it out until then
peace and blessings to those who have fallen.
HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!!! NO MATTER WHAT MADE THE SOLIDERS PICK TO SERVE, NO MATTER THEIR REASON(S). THEY DIED SERVING AND FOR THAT THEY DESERVE RESPECT. THIS POST ISN’T THE FORUM FOR A DEBATE. OK, DONE BEFORE I TURN THIS INTO WHAT I SAID IT ISN’T.
Not that I never gave a squat about those folks who lost their lives, I just never really paid attention until my brother almost died in Iraq. I do appreciate that there is some people out there that would give their life, just to see you live a better one. GOD BLESS!:)
God bless the souls of those who died for our country, and prayers out for the ones still fighting.
Yusef X, uh… what?
Thats whats up…Happy Memorial Day. And to the school in Texas that refused to allow the students/staff this day off Shame on you.
PLEASE, EVERY HOLIDAY HAS LOST ITS ORIGINAL MEANING. MEMORIAL DAY TODAY MEANS A FREE DAY OFF WORK AND BACKYARD BARBEQUES AND DRINKING TILL YOU PASS OUT. THIS IS A COOL POST TO REMIND US OF THE PAST AND WHAT TRANSPIRED IN US’S HONOR.
Yusef, Nobody is gamed to the military.
Happy Memorial Day to all.
Respect and Honor to all of the soldiers who have fought and died -
Freedom is not Free — and this Iraq war is really taking a toll:
Over 3,400 US troops killed; 340 young African Americans.
25,378 US Troops wounded and 20% of those are serious brain or spinal injuries .
30% of the troops will return home with Serious Mental Health Problems.
These soldiers, and those who have gone and died before them deserve the utmost respect – this day and everyday.
It is a well known fact that we are not in Iraq for the reasons publicly stated, so I would like to acknowledge EVERYONE who is dying in a war that never neded to be started. I ask GOD to help families coping with death, mental illness and problems anywhere in the world and to help those dealing anywhere there is suffering and poverty.
War is a bad thing period, I pray for peace
And let’s not just remember falling soldiers but also our loved ones we’ve lost…
RIP
To my grandfathers (David Terry and Theodore Kirkwood)
My greatgrandmother (Pearlie Bowman)
My big brother (Willie Ray Terry Jr)
Love yall!
Happy Memorial!
CPT K. Landeck, KIA Feb 2, 2007 Bahgdad, Iraq.
You we’re a great friend and leader.
what’s this holiday about???????????????????????? Second world war? or just anyone who has died for this country period? help a sister out
It’s raining cats and doge here (Houston), so all that I have IS time to pay my respect!
Respect.
@ my two cent
There will be more war before there is less.
When yakub is cast from israel and those who attack islam are removed from the earth by god and the battle of armaggedon is finally over, there will be peace
until then
get ready for a bumpy ride, its going to get much worse before it gets better

Here you go….
Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service. It is about reconciliation; it is about coming together to honor those who gave their all. Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on 5 May 1868 by General John Logan, and was first observed on 30 May 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. The first state to officially recognize the holiday was New York in 1873. By 1890 it was recognized by all of the northern states. It is now celebrated in almost every State on the last Monday in May.
Traditional observance of Memorial day has diminished over the years. Many Americans nowadays have forgotten the meaning and traditions of Memorial Day. At many cemeteries, the graves of the fallen are increasingly ignored, neglected. Most people no longer remember the proper flag etiquette for the day. While there are towns and cities that still hold Memorial Day parades, many have not held a parade in decades. Some people think the day is for honoring any and all dead, and not just those fallen in service to our country.
To help re-educate and remind Americans of the true meaning of Memorial Day, the “National Moment of Remembrance” resolution was passed on Dec 2000 which asks that at 3 p.m. local time, for all Americans “To voluntarily and informally observe in their own way a Moment of remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence or listening to ‘Taps.”

I hear you. THis world is going crazy. Just within america there are signs of ills and pain never before experienced and we just act as though we have to sit and deal with it. It is funny because whenever someone turns arund and critics this war they are accused of being anti-american, but I think freedom of speech allows us to HATE war and the policy makers who went in regrdless of UN Council sugestions and other global entities. But the dice has been rolled. We (as blacks) are still amongst the most passionate and patriotic and devoted to a country that has raped us and the world. Yet whenever somone talks negatively about it we defend it. We have much to learn.
In a country full of people who believe in the Bible, the Koran and the Torah, and claim to be religious and believe nd have In GOD We Trust on our money, we still celebrate days which were the result of warfare and killing. Yes I hate that soilder’s die, shit I hate whenever anyone dies, it could be a young cat slanging on the block but still,…..
Some may hate my words, but traditions and culture are not always right and do not supercede the GOD I serve.
As a Disabled War Gulf War Vet, I appreciate the love and some of the critics on CL. I must admit, I do not want my two sons serving this military. We are going to be in the Middle East for a long long time, and I do not want my son’s fighting other brown people over a senseless war and dying for oil.
I took a section 8, because I did not want to fight the war and I had a racist commander who put me through hell, the result is that I got injured and was blessed to leave Saudi and leave the military!
Spend this day talking to the young people like I am, most who are of color and who are in High School now, and offer to take them to the Veteran homes, and the local Veteran’s Hospitals, so they can see the ultimate price of war! Then and only then will our children of color start to realize that there is other things to do in life than feel like all they can do is “be all that they can be”, other than dead within a year of joining the U.S. Forces.
I’ve been there, so I have seen and witnessed….Please think about this day from other veteran’s point , including those who have gave the ultimate scarfice and let’s all pray for peace!
QBEVE
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU….
On behalf of me and my family, we are grateful for your sacrifice.
BBlessed.
thank you very much 34! Its wierd how everyone knows its an important day but when i ask, not many people know exactly what its about. I for one am so grateful to the brave men and women who have served for this country and made the ultimate sacrifice. What selfless and courageous people.
@ my two cent
you have to get past patriotism and nationalism.
Then you will see things for what they are. Innocent Iraqis and Afghanis have been dying at the hands of the Us for NO reason but for Israel and the zionists.
Our brothers are being killed in Cot Divoire in west africa because the french depend on the diamonds and gold there for their economy. Somalia will be attacked soon for its oil. Iran will be attacked as well as libya, syria and lebanon. US will be doing the killing then those who did the killing will be rewarded with ribbons and metals in historic american fashion.
and @ Qbeve it is a huge irritant to see recruiters of color, black and latino brothers soliciting victims to fight an evil war, unjust war.
I am mad when I see them on college campuses, I am ESPECIALLY mad when I see them on High school property.
They try to get the most vulnerable and gullible as well as minorities and the poor white folks to fight yakub and the zionists wars.
When you get past nationalism you think on a higher level and realize death at the hands of another human is NEVER justified. We have one biosphere, one god, universal energy, you kill someone mercilessly and unjustly somewhere, there will be a sideeffect.

You’re so right… I am trying to talk to this young sister who is graduating next month. They have her believing that all she has to worry about is a little Physical Training and she can “see the world”, make some $$$ and get college paid for.
She has no real understanding of how likely it will be that she goes to combat, and sooner than later.
I understand that some people make the choice, and that’s OK, but they should be given the full story, so they can make informed decisions.
Well you know, a lot of recruiters come to schools and persuade a lot of young people in to go the army, navy etc.So I see what most of you are saying.I know a lot of people after I graduated went on to the Army because 1 they couldn’t pay to further their education. Some won’t make it to to the combat field, some will so it is kind of big question mark.
Happy Memorial day!I hope you all are praying for our young troops.I have some family and friends over in the zone and I’m praying for their return.
The military is modern day slavery.
They always hit you with the “how are you going to pay for school” lines.
School can be paid for, you just have to know where to look for the additional funds.
There is no reason to join the military.
Besides the military industrial complex is growing and the amount of conflict this nation fights in will INCREASE over the next 5 years.
Get your education where I did, the public library, you dont need a college degree to put paper in your pocket.
School can be paid for, you just have to know where to look for the additional funds.
Exactly! Some people use as an excuse. They just not looking!
HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY
Happy Memorial Day to all troops past and present who have sacrificed their lives in order for others to speak their minds.
HOOOAH

Some people don’t need to post…just read my avatar and take heed…ugh…
A special prayer to all the men and women who have died needlessly since January 2002 for something that was really NOTHING (aka MONEY for a bunch of greedy bastards). May their souls rest in PEACE!
I am late…but happy memorial day. RIP PAPA! My grandaddy ya’ll he was a Korean War Vet. A good man. Loved his family and took care of them. I miss you soooo much! See you in heaven! And to the other soldiers and their families I pray for you daily!
On saturday, My son and I were running errands and some teenagers “young Marines” were in front of the store asking for donations. I went back in a we bought a gang of stuff to send to our troops. Things these guys over there requested. Lip balm, hard candy, wipes (like baby wipes), socks and DVD’s. I explained to my six year old what and why we were doing this. He was so excited. He wrote a little note. He told me when we got in the car “Mommy, I feel really good today”. WOW! That made me feel great! Honestly, I only spent like 35 dollars but we got so much in return! My son understands why he was not in school yesterday. He understands how to give to other people (strangers). I am so thankful for that experience. God Bless our troops and ALL our vets!!!
Ahhhh lawd…I didn’t know Raymond Smith had passed!
God Bless all the young black men that fought and won the various wars that the white man has started in the name of “indepedence and freedom”. All those black men that died for no reason whatsoever other than population control and ritual Illuministic blood sacrifice. For some of you black patriots that have the nerve to exclaim, “God Bless America”, you must be referring to your god and the god that America worships which is Satan. How the hell can a righteous Power be aligned with a country built off of the bloodshed and enslavement of His chosen people(Ex 21:16, Jer 22:13).
Due to the fact that the white man cosigns on homosexuality and lesbianism we have to honor the “freedoms” here. Not one of you people that say God bless America can give a valid reason or excuse for any war that America has entered in or started in the last 60 years. Even the ones before that were not for the reasons written down in history. These “heroes” are over there in Iraq raping men, women, and children and doing what the white man is renowned for doing: disrespecting any culture that says you cannot be a homo, lesbian, and respect your lineage and history. What’s funny is that when the Nazi soldiers said that they were “just following orders”, America in conjunction with the war crimes councils, still found them guilty of war crimes and put them to death. At least the grunts. The bigwigs were brought over to America to work on the NASA space program, creation of new military technology, or they were given asylum in Argentina (i.e. Hitler). In contrast, the American soldiers who have committed as many if not more heinous war crimes than the Nazis are supposed to be blessed, lol. Shows you that the citizens of America deserve a president like Bush. They’re just as wicked as him. Their soldiers have probably killed in excess of 10 million people over there.
The conflict being fought now in the Middle East into Iraq is a confrontation that will not end because it is building up to the final conflict. That plain between the Tigris and Euphrates is the Valley of Jehoshophat. The armies of all the nations will gather there to be destroyed (Joel 3:9-14, Matt 24:5-7, Luke 21:25-27). The Lord hates the armies of these different countries because they’re used for nothing but evil (Isa 34:1-4).
Judah, I respect your opinion…But Dang man….sometimes u be trippin!!! I dont think any of us are saying “God bless American Soldiers”so they can commit crimes against ANYONE! Wrong is wrong. We are just giving tribute to our loved ones that served. And there are alot of men and women over there that are NOT commiting crimes. So yes, we pray for them! A lot of them are mothers and fathers. They are sisters and brothers, sons and daughters. We pray for their safe return. We pray for the war to end. We pray for the murdering and raping to cease NOW! But brother Judah WE PRAY!
Matthew 24
1And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.
2And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
3And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
4And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
6And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
I know you like to back up your statements with scripture. So here is PART of matthew 24. War has been around forever! Its nothing new.
NIKKI**LUVBUG$**- It is people like you that make me so proud to be American and a military spouse. I wholeheartedly commend you for your donation to our troops. Many people can sit back and bit** and complain about our current administration and our president but it is not our troops choice to be there. They need all the support they can get as they are busting their a**es over there- I should know, my husband is on his second year-long deployment.
wow, b-rod. You be strong my sista! He will be home soon. I pray for you and him. Thanks for holding it down while he is gone. I know it must be tough! What we did on saturday was nothing compared to your family’s sacrifice! God Bless you and your family!
*sigh*
Some people…
Anyway, thanks for all who have come before and after me to help preserve the benefits of living in the USA. It isn’t perfect, but neither is man, and I hope that we will at least LEARN from the mistakes made so as to not repeat them.
53. B_Rod
Y’all have to excuse Judah’s mean spirited ass! He thinks the white man is out to get him in the night! It stems from the cult he belongs too! They have taught him to hate without probable cause! He’s terrified of blonde hair and blue eyes! Boo!
Forgetting to Remember
Alan Riley
Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. John 15:13 (NKJV)
This past Monday was Memorial Day, the holiday that marks the traditional beginning of summer with a long weekend. The American Automobile Association estimates that 38 million of us traveled 50 miles or more this past weekend despite the fact that the price of gas was at an all time high of $3.20 per gallon nationwide. They say that the number of people traveling this year was up by as much as 3 percent over last year.
Many of us spent all or part of the long weekend with family and friends, enjoying the time off from work and the opportunity to relax and enjoy each other’s company. Some of us just enjoyed three days of peace and quiet.
Sadly, very few of us actually spent time doing what Memorial Day was intended for: Remembering.
It is ironic that most of us spent time on Memorial Day enjoying the results of sacrifice – freedom – without really reflecting on the what it cost to secure that freedom.
I don’t know how it is for those of you who live in the rest of the world, but we Americans tend to be a forgetful and sometimes downright ungrateful lot. Like spoiled children, we enjoy life’s benefits without so much as a thought to how we came by those benefits, much less to be truly thankful for them.
Things were much different just a couple of generations ago. Our parent and grandparents’ lives were forever shaped by two events: The Great Depression and World War II. Because of the Great Depression they never took food, clothing or shelter for granted. They could remember a time when they weren’t sure if they would have a place to live, food on their backs or their next meal. Because of World War II, they never took freedom for granted. They could remember a time when the fate of the world hung in the balance.
Most of us grew up in a very different world than that.
I used to joke with my friends about hearing stories from my parents and grandparents about the hardships they endured. You probably heard those stories, too. You know, “When I was your age I had to walk to school… in the snow… barefoot… uphill… both ways.”
I used to ask my friends, “What are we going to tell our kids?” Somehow “When I was your age, we had to get up to change the channel!” didn’t have the same impact.
Ever since millions of Jews lost their lives to Hitler’s hatred and insanity, the rallying cry for them has been, “Never again.” The way you insure it never happens again is to never forget that it happened. To remember it happened is to realize that it could happen again. So it is with freedom. We must never forget that freedom isn’t free, and that the benefits we enjoy today are because of sacrifices made in the past. We are free because this nation had sons and daughters who, in the words of “America, the Beautiful” loved their country more than themselves and mercy more than life.
So it is also with our spiritual freedom. Our salvation came at a high price, the precious blood of Jesus Christ.
Did you forget to remember on Memorial Day? Then I urge you to take a moment and reflect on the sacrifices that made possible the many benefits that you enjoy today in both the physical and the spiritual realms.
