Yes, the judicial system is very slow when you want it to be fast (just like any other branch of government), but if you were in the suspected criminal’s or pedophile’s shoes, you would want your day in court right?

The thing about court is, charges can be brought up on you and you won’t step foot into a courtroom anywhere from 1-10 years sometimes. Without a doubt he is one of the greatest writers, producers and musicians of our time. I love what I have heard so far from this album. He’s back to his stort telling ways on Best Friend with Keysha Cole and Polow Da Don. Havin’ A Baby is also one of the greatest signature R. Kelly songs on Double Up as well.

As for R. Kelly the man, he has his flaws like every person does in the world. It is really not for us to judge, but his Creator on his judgement day. I do agree though that he should have his trial so that he and we know where he stands; this has gone for a long time. I felt the same with Michael Jackson, I wanted it to be over, whether it was in his favour or not (which turned out to be in his favour)

Basically, I may not agree with what R. Kelly as a person has done, I’m not gonna judge him for that; but I certainly am going to listen to his music if it sounds good to me.

Let’s get the facts straight. Whether you do or don’t want to judge anyone, the United States has these really cool things called laws that attempt to maintain order and protect us as citizens. For example, when you are a grown man, you are supposed to be a responsible party and not engage in sexual activities with minors. Why? Because minors, whether they consent to or enjoy sex, are often not responsible enough to make smart decisions. So in this case, R. Kelly should have been more responsible and not had sex with a minor.

Second, as talented a producer and singer R. Kelly is, he is nowhere near what he used to be. Now he just looks like a semi-washed up singer begging for spins on the radio. HE IS 40 YEARS OLD. Its like his music has become less and less mature through the years.

Third, and most importantly, don’t go around making songs about promiscuity and drinking and then make songs like “Heaven I Need a Hug” and “U Saved Me”. THAT is contradictory. he needs to stop making songs that exploit our people and promote unhealthy and irresponsible behaviors that he damn well knows are wrong.

BTW … I heard the trial was actually going to start in the coming months. May God have mercy on his soul.

I’m just curious. What is it about his music?

I am a former fan of his, mainly because his music has lacked substance as of late. Plus, I’m not sure I know the real R.Kelly. One minute he’s writing songs about bumping and grinding and the next its heaven i need a hug. granted, the conflict in his music makes him appear to be more like you and I (less than perfect), but is it real? Even when I was a fan, I was never like “OMG R.kelly is the King!”

Artists like Prince, MJ, Diana Ross, Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Barbara Streisand, The Temptations, Earth Wind and Fire…those are whom I’d consider the greatest.

Just because an artist has been able to sustain longetivity, does not garner them the King of R&B. Perhaps, people give him that title because, right now there are slim pickings in the industry.

R. Kelly is very talented, yes. But the King of R&B, or the greatest? I have to disagree on that note.

People need to judge this man on his music and nothing else. There are plenty of artist that do things in their personal life that most of us don’t agree with. Paula White Ministries recently partnered with Joy Ministries of Virginia Beach to honor 1500 single mothers and widows from low-income areas, assisted living facilities, homeless and battered women shelters, and military wives whose husbands are deployed, with a special Mother’s Day Celebration.

“It’s our 7th year doing the event,” shared Joy Ministries founder, Evangelist Danette Crawford. “There are so many widows who don’t have anyone to honor them – either their children have died, moved elsewhere, or they just don’t see them anymore.” Single mothers who are heads of families bring their children – childcare is supplied for children under 5, a special program is offered for children 5-8, and youngsters and teens ages nine and up get to write a special Mother’s Day message to their moms during the event.

Because of the size of the event, the program is held at the beautiful Virginia Beach Convention Center. The women are bused to the Center, whether alone or with accompanying family members. “These moms get the red-carpet treatment – they get flowers, a 5-star, full-service dinner,” shares Crawford excitedly. “We so appreciate Pastor Paula and Paula White Ministries for sowing into this event, because it’s such a huge financial expenditure, we could never do it without that kind of support.” This year, for the first time, a mini-van will be given away to a single mom in need.

Danette recalled how she came to sponsor this annual event: “I had a widow who’d lost her husband; she only had one son, who wouldn’t have anything to do with her. After she’d left me one evening, I thought, that woman is all alone, she has no one! But that night the Lord spoke to me and said, “I want you to honor my mothers and gather them on Mother’s Day.” We started with 150 woman seven years ago, and now it’s become a huge annual event for the community – it takes over 175 volunteers to make it happen!”

“James 1:27 says true religion is to defend the cause of the fatherless and plead the cause of the widow,” Danette continues. “During the program we preach the gospel and the women are so touched by the whole event that every year a lot of women get saved.”

Trash into Treasure: The Testimony of Paula White

CBN.com – Paula White is the one-woman dynamo who is taking the Christian world by storm. She and her husband pastor one of the ten largest churches in the U.S. in Tampa, Florida.

Her daily TV show reaches 90 percent of the world. She has a big-time book deal and the endorsement of one of America’s most respected spiritual leaders… Bishop T.D. Jakes.

All this from a lady who was practically unknown less than five years ago.

“I think it’s funny,” Paula White says. “T.D. Jakes said, ‘Paula, everyone thinks you’re an overnight wonder.’ I said, ‘Daddy, that is the longest night of my life!’”

Paula White’s life started in what seemed to be an ideal situation — the adored child of wealthy parents.

“My father took care of me every day,” she recalls. “He would take me to breakfast every morning and then to the country club. My mom ran the businesses. They were entrepreneurs. We owned toy stores, craft stores, restaurants, and seafood chains. So I just knew that loving arm that would hold me and draw smiley faces on my pancakes.

“I was always told I was Daddy’s little girl. In fact, we owned toy stores, and I would run in and want to get the latest toy off the shelf. My mom would say no way, and my dad would say, ‘Get whatever you want, baby.’”

Paula was five when her family moved from Tupelo, Missisippi, to Memphis, Tennessee.

Out of the blue… her life changed forever.

“My dad comes in one night. He’s been drinking excessively, and he grabs one hand of me. My mother grabs the other, and they begin to pull at me like a Raggedy Ann doll — just tugging at me. He says, ‘Give her to me, or I’ll kill myself.’ She said, ‘No, I won’t.’ She held on to me with her life, and my father extended his hand out and began to bash her head in. I had never seen a violent side to my father. So they call for the police, take him away, put him in jail overnight, he gets out, and takes his life as he had said he would,” Paula says.

Paula faced a much different future without her beloved father to watch over her. Her “perfect” life became increasingly unstable.

From the ages of six to thirteen, Paula endured years of sexual and physical abuse.

“Some were caretakers, some were neighbors, different people,” she says. “It wasn’t a consistent abuse, but it was enough to do damage that psychiatrists said that I would be dysfunctional all my life.”

Paula’s downward spiral continued as she searched for the love she so desperately needed.

“One thing just began to build in my life after another. Then there were the eating disorders: bulimia, anorexia… Sleeping with different people, thinking this is how you find love,” she says. “There was such a fear in me that [men] would never come back so do whatever you have to. Hit me, beat me, call me a dog, do whatever, just don’t leave.”

The odds that Paula White would find Jesus seemed slim since she’d never even been to church.

“I never heard the Gospel until I was 18 years old,” she says. “Jesus Christ… the name was synonymous to me as the Tooth Fairy or Santa Claus. I’d heard the name but I did not know that He was the Son of God, that He walked the earth that He lived, He died, was crucified on an old rugged cross… that there was a God that loved me unconditionally.”

At 18 Paula was visiting the home of a friend.

“I’m sitting in the living room, his uncle comes in, and says, ‘I can see all your pain’. I’m thinking, How can you see any pain? I am a master at this time at masking any hurt [and] anything that would show the dysfunction.

“He begins to pierce me with words that penetrated my being. He starts saying, ‘I know what you’re going through.’ He doesn’t know anything about who I am, my background. He gets out a Bible, and I don’t even know what a Bible is. I have no idea what he’s doing. He says, ‘I have the answer for everything that’s hurting you, for every problem that you face.’ He just begins to, what I call, read me my mail. He takes me through the Word of God — shows me the plan of salvation. Not only does he lead me to the Lord but he releases all the things in my past, shows me from the Word of God that I don’t have to be a victim to the things that happened to me. I have this supernatural encounter. I mean, I got saved! I got rescued. I was radically changed.

“I cannot tell you what exploded on the inside of my being. I can just say I, for the first time in my life, knew love.”

Paula set out on a journey to find out what God was all about.

“So I held the Word of God up and said, ‘I want to know You. I want answers for life. I want to understand who You are. I don’t want to trainwreck my life. I don’t want to go back to anything that had been a part of that dysfunction.’”

Soon Paula’s passion for evangelism was born.

“I found myself in the inner cities of America, all over the world for years,” she says. “Just hugging little boys and girls, telling them about the love of God, and picking up little broken Paulas. I was holding myself, restoring myself, and giving them the Word that so transformed me.”

Paula married her husband Randy, and they lead Without Walls in Tampa, Florida.

“There’s so many things that God has given me,” he says. “I have a wonderful husband, wonderful children, wonderful friends, a great church. My life is so satisfied and fulfilled in so many other areas that I focus on what God has given me and what I do have instead of what I don’t have.”

Most of all Paula White is determined to pass on “what she does have” to the people who need it most.

“My greatest thrill was not preaching in public,” she says. “It was going into a restaurant, looking into a waitress’s eyes, seeing behind the package [to] the depth of her soul, and giving her that same love that God gave me when I was 18 years old.

“Life labeled me, people gave up on me, and thought that there was no hope, but God takes the people who have been cast aside and look like trash. God’s in the recycling business. He recycles that trash and brings forth treasure.

“What nothing in this world can put back together, God can. If someone says it’s too much, what they’re saying is that the blood of Jesus Christ, the covenant that God made, is not enough. I stand as an [example] to say it is more than enough.”

Ok, I hear you. This is a tough life and no one is innocent. We have all sinned and will continue to. But listen carefully to my point … WE SHOULD NOT SUPPORT PEOPLE IN THEIR SIN. If Whitney walked around as an addict and released an album, how would we look buying it and putting money in her pockets to feed that habit. Kirk is no longer an addict. Yes, people make mistakes, but you are supposed to repent and move past them. If Kirk was going out and being an adulterous sex addict, I certainly would not be buying a gospel album from him.
To whom much is given, much is required. When you are a celebrity, you are well aware that people are watching your choices more closely and using you as a role model. Therefore, celebrities must at least try to be the strongest role models they can be, at least from the standpoint of responsibility. Taping yourself while you urinate on a teenage girl and commit statutory rape are responsible by no means.
I don’t condemn this man. I pray to God that he has prayed to my Lord and Savior for forgiveness and has not continued in these sinful acts. But, when he has not even admitted that it was him and continues to put out music promotes sinful behavior, how can I, as a Cristian, feel good about myself when I buy his album?

@254 ….. We all have feelings on this topic ! I got a 17 old neice that was extremely close to me as a kid . To the point ppl thought she was my seed . Puberty kicked in and it seem in 2 yrs. time . She went from Olive Oil to Buffy the Body . And with the body , attitude and dress changed as well . I still was very protective of her and it acumulated to a heated situation . Some dude she meet in the mall came by to pick her up . After some snooping I find out he’s 22 yrs old . I spoke to my niece about it to see the little girl I would take the gym with me cuss me out over a 10 min. tirade ….. she was insane ! When I realize I couldn’t reason with her . I approach the dude respectful and told him my concerns . Dude came at me on some real street shit that escalated in us both brandishing firearms . My niece ran up smack me and gave me the it’s my life speech …. so I say fuck it . It is your life …. live and take the good with the bad . She stop being my little niece that day … it was only a matter of time before dude did her dirty ….. but she could never cry victim to me after that !

Wow. This is really an interesting turn because when this case first came out, many more people were defending R.Kelly and talking about the girl like she was a scheming piece of trash. I don’t know whether the change is because people aren’t feeling his music like they were, or because many of you on this site are pretty young and don’t remember when Kelly was dominating the R&B scene. Personally, and clearly I’m in the minority, I dig the album. It’s not deep, it’s just a great car-riding summer joint. Folks go on here and say all this but they still buy his records.
But please believe that if you really knew the private behavior of most of these artists, you wouldn’t be buying their music either. At the end of the day, what does one have to do with the other? If you like the music, that’s what you like. We didn’t throw out “Thriller” and Off the Wall cause Michael Jackson has issues?

A Little Timeline for you:
1993- 12 Play sold 6 million.
1994- Is when he married a 15yr old Aaliyah.
1995- This marriage was exposed.
…you weren’t appalled enough to boycott then (this is also around the time several underaged women admitted to sexual relations with Kels) because…
1995- The self-titled album went on to sell 5 million.
1998- The R album went on to sell 8 million.
2000- TP2 sold 4 million
2002 The tape was released.
2003 - present - Chocolate Factory, Happy People/U Saved me, and TP3 Reloaded have ALL gone multi-platinum.

Why didn’t people boycott him back in 1995? When it was revealed & proven this man has a problem with underage girls, why all the uproar now?

Since I live in the Chi, and personally know everyone that you are all battling about, please allow me to speak, not from the perspective of info received on blogs, magazines or any other public reading or viewing data. My relationships are 15-20 yrs deep on all ends. This has not gone to trial because there has NEVER ever been a plaintiff. The tape that is referred to by everyone appeared sometime well after the issues were presented to the public. There was talk of a tape, people were threatened with a tape originally, there was no tape. Urinating on someone is not cool, but check the net, many get off on it. Has anyone started the “Send RayJ and KimK to jail for it yet, charge? You say the girl in R’s tape was a minor? Was she, do you REALLY know that for sure or is that what you read or heard? Did you know that EVERYONE who is involved in saying R did this is mad about a job they wanted or lost. Have you asked yourself where they are now? As for Mrs Kelly, she is so far from stupid, she had no reasons to doubt, worry or entertain gossip mags, because she wants for nothing and aside from what the public knows, he takes VERY good care of her. He still does, even through all of this. If this has not happened yet, the reasons are farther than what you could ever imagine & I am not guessing. I know this for a fact. The so-called facts that have been given to the public have more holes in them than a pair of fish net stockings, but until this comes to a head, I guess the public will have to be as those awaiting trial. What made you think he was the only villain? Oh yeah I forgot, the tape said so. Lets not forgot a few newspapers also, some of which are and where until recently, owned by The Enquirer.
