I hope someone finds her soon. Unfortunately, she a black girl so you know how that goes. I have a cousin that is bi-polar and in my experience you have to be kind, loving and a GOOD listener so they can let you into their thoughts. Thank God that my cousin had the strength to check herself in the hospital, because it could have easily turned out like Maia. Being that she lost her mom and she probably feels alone. Just like Something Fierce said their is a reason before the crack use.

Maia is bi-polar. She is mentally ill and mentally ill people often self-medicate. Her mother wrote a book called “72 Hour Hold” about her, saying it was about a “relative” when folks in the business knew it was Maia that was ill.
Bi-polar illness is very difficult to treat. And its symptoms can often be confused with addiction. Medication is the only way to control it and people with the illness don’t always want to take them as it makes them smooth out too much.
I hope she gets caught while she’s manic maybe she can get the help she needs. Philly is her mother’s hometown, so maybe ther is family there.

Whoever said that she has 2 sons is WRONG. She has one daughter named Elizabeth( so cute) and her husband name is Elias Guitierrez. Its sad because her mom died in Nov. of last year, soits still kind of fresh and she’s probally still trying to deal but going about it in the wrong way. I hope she gets help though.

I didn’t know she had two boys. In her interview with Sister 2 Sister she stated she had a daughter. I guess she has 3 kids. I’d read her mom was taking care of her kids before she passed. I too wonder who has the kids.

It’s not uncommon for people that are mentally ill to attempt to medicate or control their mania with drugs, alcohol and addictive/compulsive behavior. We should not be laughing at her condition or judging her, she is not in her right mind and this is not ‘intentional’ behavior displayed by someone who is sane. Let’s pray for her recovery, for God to restore her to her right mind and to give her a testimony to share with the world. We can learn from her what has been a personal hell for her and have some compassion. This is someones daughter, sister, friend….think about someone you love that could have been in this same situation. Out of respect for her deceased mother, in the spirit of our ancestors that would pray and covet those that were weak, let’s pray for her recovery and hold her down in prayer like she was our very own.

This just shows that being pretty is not the key to life, being pretty couldn’t stop her mother from passing away last year a day after Maia’s birthday, being pretty couldn’t stop Maia from suffering from mental illnesses and being pretty certianly doesnt stop real life from occuring around you. Unfortunately, you’re right. Addicts rarely accept the help offered through interventions. They have to hit ROCK BOTTOM and that’s usually when they are arrested and are placed in drug treartment programs. I’ve worked with men and women released from the “system”, so I’ve had some experience.

The criminal justice system is slowly comimg around to the fact that drug addicts neither get clean in one try, nor do they need to be locked up in prisons for extended periods of time, of course this depends on what you’re arrested for. If it’s a straight up drug purchase charge, you’re usually sent to court ordered rehab.

Clearly, this poor baby is fighting a dual illness: Addiction and mental illness. And I can’t look at her picture without the pain in her face searing through my screen.

I truly hope that she does indeed hit her bottom (in a non-violent way, of course) and gets the help she needs.

Man, I used to have a thing for Maia back when she was on ITH. If someone would’ve told me back then that she’d turn out like this, I would’ve never believed it. But, her bizarre interviews in KING (2002) and Sister 2 Sister Magazine (2004) were more than enough indication that she was on something.

And, for the record, she doesn’t have any sons–She only has one daughter. Maia has pictures of her daughter and ex-husband on her site (maiacampell.tripod.com).

It’s never a good thing to see anyone in a situation like this (And that so-called ‘Cracked-out video’ that that above picture came from certainly doesn’t help things, either).

Like someone said earlier, Mental Illness + Drug Addiction is a deadly combination, especially when you’re a Celebrity. Industry Insider had a point with the comments about how Hollywood and black people treat their own when they’re going through hard times. Hopefully, she’ll make it through.
