THE LAST DAYS OF LEFT EYE

splashnews_vgjwla190507a_02.jpg

On Saturday, VH1 premiered the documentary “The Last Days Of Left Eye”, which chronicled the last moments of the rapper as she went on a spiritual journey in Honduras.

Upon watching this documentary, many people seem to confuse Left Eye’s spiritual and self fulling experience with being mentally insane. Lisa was clearly trying to give people more understanding about herself and the things she has went through in her life. She explains everything from her childhood, to being in TLC, and her relationships – mentioning what brought about setting a fire that made her a big name in the media. It was also shocking for many to see the last minutes of the film, where Left Eye is in the car and a few seconds of the accident is revealed.

After watching this, I learned so much more about Left Eye, seeing a genuine, natural beauty and divine spirit in her. Lisa dealt with many battles in her life and now she can finally be at peace. May she continue rest in tranquility…What did you take out of the documentary?

Here is a clip from the film where Left Eye speaks about the fire. If you missed the documentary, check VH1 for reairings or see it now on the Vspot.

  1. I thought it was really deep and I love Left Eye she was my favorite out of the group.

  2. Lovely

All I know is the poor girl had some serious demons chasing her. I wouldnt call her crazy though. RIP Lisa.

  3. blackisbeautiful

hmm?..I saw it to sum it all up I think she was pranoia schizphrenia and she planned that accident from what I saw on the documentary

  4. When she died I thought about it for like 2 seconds, now seeing this I do feel like I know her a little better and it just makes me really sad. I really was not expecting to see some of the accident though, made me a little uneasy. I also appreciated Dr. Sebi getting some praise. Look him up people!

  5. blackisbeautiful

    *paranoia schizophrenia

  6. hood_shit

DVR’ed trhis but have not watched it yet. She may have been on a spiritual journey, as most of us are, but she was still a tortured soul.

  7. I saw this, and I was quiet the whole time, just listening to what Lisa had to say. I had no idea that she was that spiritual. God bless her soul.

  8. KelZ

I admire her spirit.. seing this documentary made me wan to get in tune with my spiritual self. And better my soul.

  9. I have a much more greater respect for her!! she was very talanted!

I think the documentary is a clear indication of how not to believe everything that you hear in the media. Celebrities are real people, with real issues. This documentary shows how the real Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez. I know pleanty of women who wanted to do something crazy like burn their man’s clothes, bust windows, etc, she was just crazy enough to di it. Gotta LOVE it!

  13. I am a TLC fan from waaaaaaay back.
I missed this the other day on VH1 so I will try to catch a repeat of it. RIP Left Eye, I loved her style and her flow. She is missed.

  14. Sharonda

I know its about to come on at 1 today (central time) so I’m going to have to see it.I loved all of TLC.

  15. windycity

Oh I have one question…how did she crash, did they ever say what she was dodging?

  16. iheartfashion

I just thought it was crazy how she felt spirits chasing her. Like she knew she was going to die or something bad was going to happen to her.
It was also weird that that little boy got hit by her van and he died; plus he had the same last name as she did.
It was like a sign that a spirit was looking for her and got the wrong person…

    it was just….WOW.

  17. Ashley

I thoroughly enjoyed the documentary. It kind of bugged me out afterwards once I started reflecting on all she’d been through and how her interests (numerology and astrology) seemed to truly define her life up until the very end. It was beyond a glimpse into who she was. She wasn’t crazy. She was human and this documentary was her attempt to justify the way she lived. You can’t call her crazy because she went through life – something we all strive to do efficiently every single day. KUDOS to her. May she rest in peace.

  18. Ms. Observant

Saw the documentary. It was more than obvious that she was trying to fill some void in her life. She came off a little “crazy” and honestly she sounded like she needed some serious therapy to discover how to love herself.

Previous person stated that it looks like the accident was done on purpose. I dunno. Looks like something was up, but what I don’t know. She is concentrating a little to hard on the road to make it seem like the jeep was out of control. Dunno, leave that one up to God. It’s weird how no one in that whole group sitting in the back seat has said much about the accident. I didn’t think that many people were in the car….. weird!

  19. Nik

I cant believe that I missed it. I heard that they were going to air this, but didnt know that it came on Sat. Does anyone know when it is coming on again?

  20. Ms. Observant

Oh yea, and her having the little boy’s shoes in her possesion after he was buried was very MORBID!!! She being really crazy to me then!

  21. its me bitches

my eyes wouldn’t let me watch… i felt her pain.

  22. ME

For those of you who think she had multipul personalities, you cleary have not seen what something like that does to a person. Lise “LeftEye” Lopez, was going through what is known as life. She was not trying to be someone else, nor did she seem like she was out of character. She was going through life and was brave enough to share that part on camera exposing what many people go through.

  23. Thomas-Duane

I think when I use to see her in the media, I use to think she was crazy and paranoid. But after watching her documentary, I really think that something was chasing her. I mean as much as she tried to be peaceful and anaware, if you look at the video, it seemed as though she was trying her best not to look over her shoulder.

  24. I was just telling my friend about this. I saw it over the weekend. I dunno if it’s just me, but it freaked me out to watch her talking about the wierd dreams she was having and feeling “a spirit” was trying to get her and then all of a suddon she dies. AND it said that she was wearing a seatbelt but still was the only one the died…that was just crazy.

But I definately got a better understanding of who “Lisa” the person was. And it also made me realize how life is so short and how good God is. People (I’m guilty too) complain about what they don’t have but forget that just opening your eyes every morning is a blessing in it self.

  25. @18 I’ve read in an article that she was speeding. Eighty-five miles per hour. Maybe that kind of jeep loses control easily?

  26. Tasha

I was just in shock the whole time. I couldnt open my mouth or move.. especially during the crash. I think she definitly showed who she was and that she wasnt crazy. I really wish they could of showed more… Makes you wanna change your life too. RIP Left eye

  27. M E RENEGADE

FOR ALL OF THOSE WHO SAID THAT LISA WAS PARANOID SCHIZOPHRENIC SHOULD DIG DEEPER W/I THEMSELVES.

FIRST OF ALL THIS JOURNEY SHE WAS ON WAS SPIRITUAL. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT SHE WAS GOD SENT FOR A FEW REASONS. SHE AND TUPAC ALWAYS REMINDED ME OF EACH OTHER FOR SOME REASON. THEY WERE BOTH EXTEMELY INTELLIGENT AND WAS FORESAKEN BY MANY AROUND THEM. THEY WERE BOTH POLITICAL IN THEIR OWN WAYS. YES SHE WAS A DEEP PERSON, MORE SO THAN CHILLI AND T-BOZ. I BELIEVE THERE WAS SOME RESENTMENT ON THEIR BEHALF B/C PEOPLE GRAVITATED TOWARDS HER THE MOST. I TRULY BELIEVE WHAT SHE SAID WHEN SHE SAID THAT WHEN SHE BURNED ANDRE’S HOUSE DOWN AND GARNERED ALL THE PUBLICITY ABOUT IT, IT THRUSTED THE GROUP TO FOREFRONT. PEOPLE LISTENED INTO CRAZY,SEXY,COOL TO SEE WHAT LISA WAS SO ANGRY ABOUT AND WHAT THE GROUP WAS REALLY ABOUT. SO HAPPENS THAT IT WAS A GREAT ALBUM AND PEOPLE STARTED TO LOVE THEM – ENABLING FANMAIL 4 YRS LATER SELL TO 10M.

MY ADVISED TO PEOPLE IS NOT TO ANALYZE HER (SHE’S DEAD AND GONE), BUT BE MORE LIKE HER AND DIG DEEP IN YOURSELF TO MAKE SURE YOUR MIND, SOUL, AND BODY IS RIGHT…

  28. I missed it, and I thought it was complete on the VSPOT, but I’ll watch it when it reairs. I miss Lisa! I loved them all but she was definitely the most talented.

  29. triple threat

I think she killed herself on purpose. That’s how I felt during the last minutes of the accident.

  30. NIKKI**LUVBUG$**

Wow! some people “know” when their time is almost up. She was one of those people and she talked about it. I allways thought she was the “crazy” one not like medically crazy but crazy like if you knew her she would be the one that would have you rollin’! If you read interviews from the people that knew her, it’s like their world was turned upside down. RIP Lisa!

  31. algie

left eye you are still missed.you had some demons chasing you girl but as you look down from heaven know that your work trying to do positive things in this world did not go unnoticed when the media was just always tying to stay focused on the negative.seeing this documentary made me realize that its about making your dreams come true through god and not entertaining no drama in things or people because the next the day is not promised….left eye don’t mean the rest of my body is irrelevant

  32. Lisa’s eyes are deep, and amazing, borderline hypnotizing.

@ 1..in a few minutes actually (on the vh1 site)

@25 Yeah they said she was speeding plus she was speeding around a curve, which is far dangerous.

  34. kiwi2g4

I agree that everyday is a blessing. (TAM) We only kno what came across on camera, we dont exacly what went on n her mind. I also agree that she could be mildly “paranoia schizophrenia”… As you might kno, the onsets of that might not mature until your late 20′s early 30′s. But none the less who’s to say what she felt, or y she felt that way wasnt her reality. We all live with our own demons and such, ours may not have reach the point, were we see spritual rest, redemption, or for that matter revelation.

    sorry if ne mispellings :)

  35. msblacknasty1

she must have been the crazy one. home girl had some issues, i heard she had the virus, thats y she stayed in hondorus she didnt give a flyn fuck about chilli and t-boz all she wanted to do is drink. i can say tho she loved andre. may she R.I.P

  36. tiffany

Very thought- provoking and emotional. Almost creepy, though everything played out. SHe knew that something was going to happen to her. People should definitely watch this if they have not. She was really deep and very Godly in a sense. The accident that claimed the life of the little boy was like a pre-cursor to her own death, and she knew it. Would love to watch it again though… you learn so much about her.

  37. Ms_2_Damn_Sexy

    That was just weird.

  38. MAI03

I saw it, and it made me gain so much more respect for Lisa.
She was such a beautiful person- inside and out and her beautiful spirit was shown throughout the whole documentary.
I must admit, it was a bit haunting to see the few seconds of the accident. I was thinking about that this morning. It happened so fast. Jolts just went thru my body when I saw it. Then a tear fell down my face.
As she talked about her life and deep feelings and especially her relationship with Andre Rison, I found myself relating to some of her stories so much.
    RIP Lisa Left Eye Lopes.

  39. How can you claim she killed herself on purpose? There were other people in the car, people she deeply cared about, come on now people.

  40. vi_rican_

After watching this I got some chills that would not go away. Very sad to see her go, she was intelligent and mulit talented. I just dont understand how someone can say that she tried to kill herself…..

  41. GO

It revealed a lot about her that I had no idea about, I had no idea that she was so artiscally inclined. Her family’s background in music and the arts was also interesting. She was definitely a dynamic person and truly was the personality of TLC which is why the group could never go on. Oh and she is so naturally beautiful, she looked so young in the documentary almost child like. The last twenty mintues of the documentary is so haunting. I had a little trouble going to sleep that night cause it stuck with me for a bit.

    Hi Everyone:

I watched the documentary and was saddened by the loss. She was a true talent and her heart was pure. The documentary actually made feel like I was in the same room with her. I noticed one time during the narration, Left Eye stated that she was afraid that people would not get the true essence of what she was trying to accomplish in the documentary. The documentary showed her Angel wings. She was a true blessing in disguise and great women in which I will always remember. …… she was definitely a hidden treasure. She died having the guts to be her self and I admire her for that. Left Eye left the world a great gift a documentary showing how she was living her life like it was golden.
God Bless & Luv You Lisa. I know you’re at peace now.

    >>>>>>>> Exactly. People kill me with the Schizo thing, everyone has their demons to battle, some more than others, but we all are humans with our flaws, weaknesses and ordeals. She and Pac reminded me A LOT of each other too!!!

  44. TT

I only saw the last 20 minutes. But my friends and I were debating on if that last scene was the actual accident that killed her or simply a time she “swirved” off the road. I thought it was the actual accident that killed her but in the documentary they say that she was the only one wearing a seatbelt and it was obvious from the clip she didn’t have one on….

  45. nikkideevah

#27 has made the most sense and I agree…. Left Eye and Tupac knew their day was coming… and lived life the way they wanted to until that day…

  46. Divine One

Watching it was very enlightening and disturbing at the same time….I knew Lisa had some issues…that came from her father being so strict…and especially with her relationship with Andre….and how much she was so comsumed with him….and how he treated her…but I didn’t like how she carved in her arm at one point Love Dre…then when he pissed her off she carved Hate in her own skin….and “HATE” stood out the most….and it’s crazy because sometimes I do believe that people are given signs when it’s time for them to die….cause for the most part they try to make peace with people or try to leave some type of mark on the world….and that’s what she did!!!

  47. Rip Left eye she really was a great person.

  48. Glad I didn’t see it! Didn’t wanna see the end…loved her

  49. Meat

    24. Wonder Women aka Tam ~ WOW, gurl! I feel real close to you after reading that! Lisa had issues coming and going! She was abused as a child and she couldn’t break the cycle! Chilli and T-Boz thought she was selfish and evil! Such a tragic ending to a talented artist!

As wierd as she was, the group TLC would have lasted a lot longer with her influence! She knew the bounds of hip-hop and how to work the studios! She understood the groove, the funk and the soul, but she didn’t know how to burn Andre’s tennis shoes without burning the whole house down!

Her birthday is on May 27, this Sunday she would have been 36 years old! She died April 25, 2002!

    RIP!

  50. Kev

It saddens me that some people minds are so twisted think that they think Lisa would actually put those people in the car with her in harms way…. I don’t believe that for one second that she wanted to end her life… she spoke so eloquently about what she wanted to do upon her return back to the states… but that was not a part of her destiny… she had flaws like we all do, I’m just happy that it appeared that she found some peace.

  51. Foxxy

OMG! Heartbreaking to watch! So sad. She looked like she was having so much fun too. And I didn’t expect to actually see the car go off road. That made me tear up a bit. It’s crazy cuz she had madd talent! I didn’t even know she could paint like that. One thing I gotta say and no disrespect meant, is homegirl had taste cuz her man was fine! lol YOU GO GIRL! Rip Lefteye.

  52. Boss Lady

I WATCHED THIS WHOLE THING IN SILENCE. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A FAN OF TLC AND LEFT EYE AS WELL, BUT THIS DOCUMENTARY REVEALED HER TRUE COLORS AND IM NOT SO SURE HER SANITY WAS ALL THERE. I MEAN I DONT THINK SHE WAS CRAZY (GOD REST HER SOUL) BUT I DO BELIEVE SHE WAS LOST AS SHE MENTIONED HERSELF. THE WHOLE NUMEROLOGY AND ASTROLOGY THING DOES NOT COINCIDE WITH CHRISTIANITY AT ALL. NOT TO SAY THAT CHRISTIANITY IS RIGHT FOR ALL, BUT SHE NEVER MENTIONED ANY “BASE” FOR RELIGION WHICH MEANS SHE LACKED A CERTAIN SPIRITUAL FAITH AND NOTHING WAS “GROUNDED” OR CONSISTANT, WHICH IS WHY IN MY HUMBLE OPINION SHE WAS LOST. SHE SPOKE OF MANY DEMONS AND ALL SORTS OF DEMONIC PREMONITIONS AS WELL…

  53. starr geary

I was soooo touched and haunted at the same time by the documentary. But I also hate that coca cola is getting a free plug!!!! wished they had blurred it out.

  54. THELOVEXPERT

I PERSONALLY THINK LEFT-EYE WAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND THE MOST TALENTED OUT OF THE GROUP. I DON’T THINK SHE WAS PARANOID. SHE WAS HUMAN AND REACTED THE WAY A REAL HUMAN WOULD UNDER SUCH CIRCUMSTANCES. IF YOUR BOYFRIEND, HUSBAND, OR FIANCE CHEATS,IT’S HUMAN TO BECOME ANGRY EVEN THE MOST MILD TEMPERED PERSON WOULD BECOME ANGRY IN THAT SITUATION,JUST THINKING ABOUT HOW THE PERSON YOU LOVE IS MAKING A FOOL OF YOU WILL MAKE YOU ANGRY. I ALSO DON’T THINK SHE WAS AN ALCOHOLIC,HAVING A DRINK OR TWO DOES NOT AN ALCOHOLIC MAKE. A PERSON IS AN ALCOHOLIC WHEN THEY DRINK EVERYDAY.

  55. DIVINE 1

Lisa dug deep, deep into places that alot of us a scared to go. She has inspired me to take a look at things differently, especially my spiritual side. As I watched and listened to her, she was much more than we saw of her in the “spot light”. She was such a loving, caring and genuine sweet spirit. She touched on some intellectual things that you would have to be interested in and blessed with to understand. I personally understand where she was coming from. I wish we could have known this intimate side of her along time ago. In some ways she was misunderstood b/c we only saw the side of her that the media chose to show. But the side that we see now in this documentary is a side that I love.
    R.I.P LEFT-EYE

  56. KiKi

Why would some of you say that Lefteye killed herself on purpose? She had her closet friends and family in the vehicle with her. So if she tried to kill “herself”, then that means she would be risking killing her people too. I know damn well she wouldn’t have wanted them to die also. Be serious y’all!

  57. Snow White

I caught bits and pieces of the show yesterday. My daughter watched it and seems to think she killed herself. How is it that she’s the only person that died? Especially with so many of them sitting in the backseat, w/o a seatbelt? Also from the angle that the truck started swivering, it seems the passenger [the person filming the video] would have died also. Something does seem oddly strange about that.

  58. Foxxy

i gotta agree with 54, didn’t that seem kinda cheap? I was thinking that too. Way to slip in a plug huh? ugh. They should have blurred it.

  59. she was mentally insane and that’s it! there is no other way of looking at it! it’s the truth and we all know it!!!!!!
