THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW

Chris Brown – Wall to Wall (Remix) (full) – download
This song has really grown on me for some reason, without even a video. Chris Brown to me has such a good spirit and energy. I think that he is really a talented young man and he just seems extremely genuine about doing what it is he does. Honestly, I kind of feel like he needs to be shielded from the industry so he doesn’t get tainted, haha. But anyway, the remix isn’t much different from the original version of the song, besides a rap. I’m eager to see what else Chris Brown is bringing on this album – strangely, moreso than Usher… hmmm…

Diddy feat. Keyshia Cole, Lil’ Kim & Busta Rhymes – Last Night (Remix) (full) – download
Man! I was super duper excited when I heard this on the radio. I immediately was on the hunt for it. First of all, I love the song “Last Night,” secondly, with the remix you sampled one of my all time favorite Prince songs with Sheila E., “Erotic City?” Are you serious? And then you has the nerve to put Lil’ Kim on the track? I’m sorry but when I heard this, it was a wrap on society. I love it.

Jennifer Hudson feat. Papoose – Special (full) – download
So I know that Jennifer Hudson is America’s sweetheart… the People’s Champ, all of that. But in all honesty, if this is what she’s bringing to the people, if this is what she’s been at the drawing board working on, and if this is even what she’s thinking about releasing on her album, she needs to seriously re-evaluate. Honestly, the song wouldn’t even really be that bad if she just took Papoose off of it. He sounds absolutely ridiculous. I don’t know, this is just not what I was expecting. It’s all over the place.

Chili feat. Missy Elliott – Glidin’ (full) – download
Now Chili… at this point in your career, you don’t need to be making Ciara leftovers. There has to be something else for you to do. In a recent interview, Akon was saying how he’d signed Chili to his Konvict Music label and that she is about to set the standard for all female R&B singers. And this is supposed to be a threat? Chili needs to seriously mature her sound a little bit and her subject matters. She’s a grown woman and this music is sounding like highschool.

Yawwwwwn…Ain’t nothing new about a song that’s been on the radio for a month now. Didn’t this same guy say T-Pain only had a spring hit with “Buy U a Drank” and now it’s the #1 song in the country? Try again, B, try again.

  2. Eeeeeeeeeeew Scott Storch Yellow Teeeeetheseeeeeees

Not really in to CB so I skipped him.Heard Diddy 200000000823 remix of Last Night
I’m not feeling the rap on Jhuds song. The fuck Papoose?
I kind of like the Chilli song, but it is Ciara-ish.

  3. Jennifer Hudson I’m not too crazy about but anything Pap does I have no choice but to love. Papoose is the truth. Great Lyracist….it’s ok Pap, I got your “Victory”

    Everyone else…CARE!

  4. J. Hud & Papoose?!!? How did the geico gecko (I LOVE me some Pap though…don’t get me wrong, love his flow) hook up with Miss Dreamgirl herself? I’d would have never thought.

Still can’t get into the C.Brown track. It’s creeping on me though.

  5. Court

That Left Eye program was crazy thats all!

  6. Selina

to be a realist, does anyone want to buy a jennifer hudson cd? isn’t she in the same catagory as kelly price? and putting papoose of all rappers on your single is the dumbest idea ever. what hit has he been on? jhud needs to go the ballad route and ignore kay slay tryna push that “my cd is never comming out but look at me i can buy a rhyming dictionary and rap the alphabet” papoose.

  7. @Complexndope…we all have to love Pap’s Flow but I agree with you they should have posted Pap and J.Hud as a WTF item. I never would have thought of that combination. Ah well.

  8. Eeeeeeeeeeew Scott Storch Yellow Teeeeetheseeeeeees

    Kelly Price is Gospel.

  9. ThinkAboutIt

I was excited to download Jennifer’s track, but I have to agree, the Papoose feature makes no sense, and his use of nigga and bitch seem so unneccesary and forced into the song… Not sure why she would even have it on this track. Not a good look.

  10. Selina

kelly price was r&b before going to gospel actually.

  11. MISSLADY

I love Miss Jennifer, she is an extroidinary talent and I can’t wait for the alubum to drop~ BUT ~ I’m not really feelin’ this song…. and I hope it’s not setting the tone for her album. I had high expectations, damn~ The rap didn’t make it any better

  12. ThinkAboutIt

Last night remix is nice… at least Busta and Kim will get some radio play for a minute.

  13. That CB track is dope.

JHUD and Pap? Lol, that’s unlikely. I’m surprised Clive allowed it.

  14. mass appeal

not feeling any of the songs. chris and jennifer need to do better. chilli has been around for so so long and needs to really do better and the diddy song is bad, no matter how hype brian is, it’s horrible.

  15. Hey CL folks *Got back from my wedding/honeymoon!and back to work (boo)*

The Jen track is okay.Kelly Price was a great R&B artist, but she is much of a gospel artist. If you mean they in the same catergory, presently, you would think Jennifer be doing gospel?I love Pap though Boyz In The Hood still in my head today.

    I let Chilli slide.

  16. Irish

Not feelin the Chilli song at all..The J.Hud song is okay to me, I kinda like Papoose on the song..

    __________

Actually she started in gospel [in the church], moved to secular, and now back to Gospel. But whatever the case, she has a beautiful voice. Her gospel CD is on the gospel and R&B charts.

  18. reuneety

well everybody has there own opinion. i like chili’s song. its fun and it sounds like a great club song!

  19. Selina

well i am refering to kelly prices r&b career and the type of singles she released. it is my belief that first off being on J Records with Clive in charge is going to leave her cd being either 1. extremely flawed/half assed 2. having a lack of dirrection or 3. having one possible hit and not being marketed right. Jhud need to define the dirrection her music is going in. SHe needs to find a market and make songs catered to that audience. Having papoose on your song points to the dirrection that she [or her label] wants her to be on 106. Jhud does not fit with 106, she has a mature sound, and a mature look. She needs to not let the label put some fly by rapper in her song and stop letting them market her to teens, she is not going to sell with them.

  20. the Chris brown track is clean.
    the rest is aite.

  21. Ne' Ne'

    My 2 cents:
**crump dancing to wall to wall**

last night- I played this song out so lil kim and busta cant save it. I am done with it.

THE REST WONT PLAY FOR ME DAMN IT!!!!11

  22. audifox6

Were you really ‘super duper’ excited Brian lol I love Erotic City too. Hands down one of the best Prince songs ever.

I’m pretty disappointed in J Hud’s song. I really hope thats not what she’s delivering and been working so hard on.

Chilli–this sounds like something a child would sing. I could see it being a good roller skating song but I’ma want her to grow a little as an artist “ever since we hooked up, i been feelin jacked up”. Not feeling it

  23. getmebodied Anonymous

I/VE HAD “LAST NIGHT” ON MY VOICEMAIL FOR DA LONGEST…..DIDDY SHOLL DO LIKE RECORDING A LOT OF REMIXES FOR DIS SONG….IS HE HOPING TO PROMOTE HIS ALBUM STILL? LOL

  24. audifox6

#16–Nyland: Congratulations on your wedding and your honeymoon!!! Sorry you have to go back to reality today. Where’d you go on your honeymoon?

  25. ThinkAboutIt

    #20 – Excellent points.

  26. The Chilli song is shit. I’m feeling the Last Night remix, and the Jennifer Hudson track is ok.

  27. jayla06

Umm… This track with J-hud is 3yrs. old (THIS IS NOT NEW)!!! The rap was just added in recently, but she recorded this particular song in 2004! Again, THIS IS NOT A NEW TRACK FROM J-HUD, AND THIS WILL NOT BE ON HER ALBUM (trust me)!!! If some of yall were true J-hud fans you would know this lol!

  28. @26 We went to,excuse my language hot ass Miami!I loved it, but it was tooo hot.I’m from D.C. so you know I’m not use to that heat like that, even though its been really hot to me up here too.But yeah I’m back at work lol, but I love what I do so I can’t complain.

  29. Everything is either garbage (Chilli, Chris Brown), tired (1687687th remix of Last Night) or average (JHud).

JHud can be on 106 mature voice, sound and all, Alicia Keys did it, John Legend did it, Common did it.

  30. NY'er

I also like Chris Brown’s “energy” and “spirit”…but as far as the song? ehhh…it’s OK….

Diddy/Keyshia Cole – hated the song, didn’t need a remix, even more wrong, please kill it already

Why would Jennifer Hudson sully her career by hooking up with Papoose? That is, unless she wanted to save 15% or more on car insurance! I’d rather she did a duet with the cavemen! (and if you don’t know what “sully” means, go to dictionary.com and look it up!)

Props to Missy for not forgetting about Chilli, but leave the teeny-bopper music to Ciara. The song sounds tired, recycled and just not YOU. We could use an alternative to the over-exposed Beyonce….

  31. NY'er

    Hey – here’s an idea:

Common with JHud on the hook!

Now THAT I would check out…..

  32. I see what you saying Selinia.I still listen to her today. They both great artist, well I don’t know about Jennifer because she hasn’t really put anything out yet.

  33. And for the record, Ciara didn’t INVENT that sound, she made it popular to the world but didn’t create it. Jazze Pha is probably the one who produced it and he’s been producing before Ciara. TLC is from ATL hellooooooo, that sound is from ATL.

And it sounds like Chilli rapping HERSELF, CL’s the only site that I know that claims this is Missy on the track.

  34. Selina

“JHud can be on 106 mature voice, sound and all, Alicia Keys did it, John Legend did it, Common did it.” -Chante

Alicia Keys is the only person out of those three i will agree with, but then i also would like to point out Alicia Keys is marketed towards the 106 audience as well as “some” adults and is easier to sell to them. Alicia Keys is in the same marketing age bracket as beyonce. Alicia keys music is clear channel approved music. lol [granted i HATE alicia keys]

John Legend is a failed attempt to sell to 106. yes his videos get some play, but a majority of the time he is sold to adults and marketed as r&b/pop/neo soul. you see more of him on VH1 soul then 106.

and common, common is only on 106 because kanye produced him. his sound is straight okayplayer, and though one or two songs can slip through to the mainstream teen audience, common has backpackers and neo soul lovers buying his cds. we can’t lie and say common is selling to the same ppl who pop lock and drop it.

Jhud requires that VH1 soul audience. im not saying she isnt going to have 1 or 2 hits on 106 and trl, i’m just saying be real here. in world of trl and 106 you better be half naked, have a model body and sing like a subordinate woman and jhud [though i hate her ass too] sings better than that and appears to be a stronger wiser woman than that.

  35. JstBReal

I’m digging the CB track. Its gonna be a hott one fasho. Not feeling the Diddy track except for Keyshia Cole. Umm no comment bout the JHud track, but love her on the Ne-Yo song no doubt.

  36. QUOTE : Alicia Keys is the only person out of those three i will agree with, but then i also would like to point out Alicia Keys is marketed towards the 106 audience as well as “some” adults and is easier to sell to them.
    >>>>>> Like JHUD her image wasn’t like the average RnB singer and was more mature than them, she wasn’t shaking her ass, and her music is marketable but isn’t “bubble gum”, so if she did it so can JHud. >>>>> But you still see it there, and with the Kanye connection he’s still there, not as much as Omarion, buts still there, that’s my point. >>>>> It doesn’t matter WHY they play him, his label still managed to promote him to the 106 and TRL audience. His audience is the same? Why you think Common’s sales are bigger now? And the movie deals and coming to him now? Because he has a wider audience, so yes some of the people who pop lock drop it love them some Common too, may not be MOST OF THEM, but some of them do. >>>>> But with the right people she can. Keyshia Cole could despite having a “mature voice” and a non-bubble gum HipHop/Soul sound (and her first single with Kanye where she was dressed like a hooker – the norm in RnB – FLOPPED, it wasn’t until she released “I just want it…” where she was dressed well that she blew up, and on 106 same thing). Mary J Blige STILL makes it on 106, JHud doesn’t have to conform the half-naked trend to be on 106, especially with someone like CLIVE backing her. I have no doubt that as mature as she is, she can sell to the 106 audience, cause they’re the same who watch American Idol and saw Dreamgirls. They can give her a marketable sound with it having to be bubble gum.

  37. Chris is straight garbage. He has not evolved at all.
    Last Night makes me sick.
I like the Jennifer Hudson song.
    Chilli’s song is okay.

  38. another remix by diddy, this song was old “last night”! Have you heard the Janet vs. Diddy remix of “what have you done for me lately” on this track, atleast, it’s a different vibe. It actually sounds cool. I’ll have to check the other songs when I get home! DAMN job! LOL!

Brian was pretty harsh today on the reviews! LOL!

  41. I agree, Chante`. J.Hud does not need to strip to sell records.

  42. Yo sorry SELINA but this site was messing up my post :?

  43. Corr : They can give her a marketable sound WITHOUT it having to be bubble gum. ;)

  44. Selina

alicia keys will always be mainstream pop music. yes they tossed in some pianos and classical music but her and vanessa carlton are playing the same damn music. she isn’t doing anything THAT new and shes really pretty and easy to market. common release be at the right time. when he had other singles on 106 he wasn’t selling the same. no one was checking for him. it was’t until the Kanye west mania [i would call it] came about that people were checking for com.

the difference between Jhud and majy j being on 106, is mary j is established. she has a defined sound that works for her and she is able t rely on her fans to vote her on these shows and request her on the radio. Keyshia cole differs from Jhud because that chick is hip hop soul, if keyshia says shell cut you – she’ll cut you. they market keyshia as a hoodrat with soul [if you will lol] Jhud is the hollywood it girl she is not hip hop soul she is r&b/soul/pop.
Jhud has nothing to show for her music abilities except idol and dreamgirls. the songs she did well on in dream girls were ballads and slow songs, she proved sucessful with these songs, she had critical aclaim with these songs. she needs to do what she is good at and known for in her first cd. and singing the same crap every cookie cutter r&b singer sings about isn’t going to help her establish a fan base, and will do nothing but polorize her current fans and leave her with a confused fan base.

  45. Selina

also i never said jhud needs to strip. she isnt going to fit the mold of a mainstream sex symbol. she needs to sing adult r&b. it fits her persona.

  46. acutie

Brian, I agree with you the song is o.k. but without Papoose. The lyrics that he’s rapping doesn’t even have anything to do with the song.

  47. Diddy stop it already damn.

I didn’t know Chili was on Konvict. I think this track will definitely appeal to the 12-20 year old crowd. Me….hated it.

I like Pap, but that has to be the worst verse he’s ever written. That shit should’ve never left the studio.

  48. Every singer doesn’t have to be a sex symbol. That ish kills me.Thats why nobody is being themselves in this industry because they feel they have to fit in to the industry mold.No wonder I stopped purchasing some music because everybody wants to outshine somebody by being over the top.So she has to stick to adult r&b because she not a sex symbol?I’m not knocikng your opinion, but you are right because people are not going to by anything if you don’t have the lacefront, the cakeup makeup, the plumpy tits, the tummy tucked, sticking out the ass so you can look like you have ass- well the people I’m referring is the people who in to the pop stuff.

  49. Will

Selina you are on point with your post…I agree with all your posts

  50. Lanee

I like Chris Brown’s song even though it sounds like 95% of the songs he already made…I guess if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

I’m not even gonna bother to d/l J-Hud’s song after all the negative posts I’ve been seeing.

Didn’t C/L say that this song “Lst Night” has like 10,000 remixes?! He’s really milking this song or all its worth. Thanks Diddy. Now go kill yourself.

I fell in love with a track that had been leaked awhile ago by TLC called “Gameproof”. Now Chilli’s doing the solo thing. I actually like song. Makes you wanna go to the skating rink. lol. But also, she could do MUCH better. I’ll still bump it though.

  51. Selina

its sad that music isn’t about talent, but video killed the radio star. and not to be a bitch but jhud isn’t beyonce, rhianna or ciara. she can’t fall back on her sex appeal to sell records.i mean i think she is a pretty girl and i know people find her sexier than the ppl i meantioned, and i in no way mean to say if your thick like she is your ugly, but the record industry is shady, and if you don’t fit the pop star mold, you better go to some genre and work the hell out of it. jhud is going to have to find her niche and sell her voice :)

  52. Chilli it’s ok but I wouldn’t expect her to do a song like this. At least not in this point in time of her career.

    Jennifer’s song it’s ok

  53. alicia keys will always be mainstream pop music. yes they tossed in some pianos and classical music but her and vanessa carlton are playing the same damn music. she isn’t doing anything THAT new and shes really pretty and easy to market.
    >>>>>> Yeah, Karma, If I Aint Got You and New York City are very Clarkson-ish. :D Alicia Keys ain’t doing nothing “new”, but she’s hiphop/soul/rnb. Yeah she does have a pop joint or two (Bono), but her base is hiphop/soul with some rnb.

common release be at the right time. when he had other singles on 106 he wasn’t selling the same. no one was checking for him. it was’t until the Kanye west mania [i would call it] came about that people were checking for com.
    >>>>> Yes, “right time” like ANY artist. Good sales have always been about “the right time”, so if JHud releases the right single at “the right time” she will sell too. And as I told you, the bottomline is even if Kanye played a role in his sales, he didn’t have to conform to the norm of the “106 Rap Music” to sell to THAT audience. If he did it, so can JHud.

the difference between Jhud and majy j being on 106, is mary j is established. she has a defined sound that works for her and she is able t rely on her fans to vote her on these shows and request her on the radio.
    >>>>>>> Janet is established and didn’t sell. My point is, established or not, a mature image CAN SELL ON 106 if marketed properly.

    >>>>>>>> The bottomline is she didn’t have to shake her butt to be on 106 n Park. Alicia Keys does soul and rnb too. She did it, JHud can too.

    >>>>>>>> Even if she’s good at ballads, she can still do well with midtempos. I think she can pull that. I think they need to give her a marketable RnB/Soul sound but nothing bubble gum. You act like you fear that they give her a PCD/Black Eyed Peas sound. SELINA : Clive ain’t crazy.

  54. CB’s remix is ok, i already liked the song tho…

Nothing special about the Last Night remix, he needs to leave it alone

J.Hud- the song is over all the place forreal, dnt kno wat to say about it!

Heard the Chili song already, dont like it, dissapointed!

  55. Sanjayamyboo

Love the CB song!! Wil be buying that album!!
Chilli could do soooo much better!!
J Hud need her ass whipped for this one!!
    Love the Last Night remix!!

  56. Selina

clive aint stupid, but he sure enough didnt help monica, toni braxton or whitney [even without her drug use her last cd was a glass coaster] im afriad clive is so pro pop star making hits he is gonna toss jhud under the bus like he played fantasia and jamie foxx [granted his ass cant sing lol]

  57. LowKey

Pretty good material, but I dont know what J.Hud was trying to capture with Papoose on her track.

Anyway….check out exclusive new songs from R.Kelly only at http://www.YOUHEARDTHATNEW.COM

  58. SELINA,

Nah nah, the Monica situation was HER idea. Clive was making her the next Whitney Houston but SHE wanted to keep it street, the tatoos and everything, Monica was at her PEAK when she was RnB/POP, not when she left that for crunk/whatever. So he left her alone and that’s why he’s focusing on Alicia his new “First Lady”. Toni Braxton is the one who wanted to strip for RnB, she always said she’s a “sinner”. She destroyed the “Unbreak My Heart” image herself. Whitney Houston ruined her own career too (and by the way “My Love Is Your Love” RnB/POP did well). Fantasia was successful with her first album, why did he risk CHANGING the recipe? Cause she wanted to be “more herself” in the sophomore, he let her cause she sold enough and was mainstream with Idol, now we see what happened with the “hood boy” mess. Jamie, I take your word for it. But in general, when something works Clive doesn’t change it (Alicia, Monica for a lil while), unless people are established or sold enough (monica, fantasia) so he lets them if they really wanna change and if they flopped it’s generally because THEY wanted to change their own image. Now he focuses on Alicia, JHud and he’s building Emily King.
