THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW

Tank - Come Back to Me (full) - download
If this was the direction in which Tank’s album was going to go, I would have suggested that this song be placed on the album. But Tank’s new album, “Sex, Love & Pain,” which, according to SoundScan and billboard.com debuted at #2 it’s first week (and #1 on the R&B/Hip Hop Album charts), is very ballad-heavy, besides the 2-year-old “I Like Them Girls,” produced by Timbaland, which appears at the end of the album as a bonus track. I like this track, but I can definitely see why it was left off the album. I think Tank needs to release another album soon.

Mario - Why (snippet) - download
Mario has got a voice on him. And I’m glad that this snippet has leaked, because besides “Go!” (produced by The Neptunes) and “Crying Out For Me” (produced by Polow Da Don), I haven’t been impressed with much from the album, especially the new single, “How Do I Breathe.” This snippet, reportedly produced by The Underdogs, who have been sitting pretty since producing the Dreamgirls soundtrack, virtually in its entirety, is a good look for Mario. I’m hoping that this new album can erase the bad taste the last one left in my mouth.

Cherish - Keep It Fresh (full) - download
While out of town on vacation, I heard this song on the radio, and absolutely cringed. I don’t wish bad fortune on anyone, but I thought for sure that Cherish wasn’t going to have a second album and would remain just a two-hit wonder (surprisingly their title track song, “Unappreciatied” was very successful on radio). I guess the reason this song bothers me so much is it’s so typical Atlanta and typical Cherish. It’s radio friendly, but it just doesn’t do anything for me. I really think they need to go back to the drawing board if they want to stick around much longer.

Rihanna - Rehab (full) - download
The more I listen to Rihanna’s new album, “Good Girl Gone Bad,” (due out next week, on June 5th) strangely, the more I like it. “Rehab,” which has been getting a lot of love online is one of my favorite songs. Admittedly, Rihanna is not a vocalist, but the way her voice rides this song doesn’t bother me at all. I can appreciate what Rihanna is trying to get accomplished with this album. She doesn’t want to be pigeon-holed. And I think she’s doing a pretty good job of not sticking in anybody’s box.

Rihanna is doing big things yall. I heard all the tracks on her new album on youtube and she is destined to have her album debut at number one. Im not mad at her for trying something new and integrating R&B, reggae, and pop-rock. More people should try it.

I like that Rhianna song. With everybody else pushing their albums back, it seems that Rhianna’s album might be the only decent thing to come out this summer. SAD…anyway, I sincerly hope that is not Jill Scott’s new song that Chante posted. I’ve been waiting forever and a half for some new Jill and that ish was not the business. It sounds like a desperate attempt to be contemporary. Not feeling it at all.

I can listen to the new music right now

but based on the comments above I’m going to go get Tank’s new album. Never been a fan but for the last week his name has been in everybody’s mouth so I must hear for myself.

Cherrish can sing their butts off but their songs are always so childish. That sounded stupid since they are so young LOL

I loved Rhianna’s first cd ( all my friends talked about me for buying it) but the second one sucked. she will not get my 10.81 @ BestBuy this time b/c the umbrella song erks me!

Damn can’t stop listening to “Rehab” the beat, lyrics and Rihann’s voice makes it addictive. Big Ups to Justin Timberlake on the lyrics and Timberland on the track. Ya’ll better watch out for Rihanna, she has a HOTT CD. One of the best this year so far.

Rihanna is really doing the damn thing on this track and the entire album in general. Definitely something to pick up June 5.

She is impressing me with her growth and selection of songs. Very well put together. Her voice and and sound is somewhat unique and I appreciate that. I wish half of you would too, instead of wishing she sounded like everybody else.

She is here to stay…deal with it already.

Keep on doing the damn thing Rihanna! Jamaica loves you.

Not a big fan of Rhianna, but I do like that she’s not being pigeon holed as a typical R&B artist, I wish more R&B artists did that…do something different for a change.

I do like Rehab and I’ve heard the entire cd it’s okay nothing I’d buy though.

ChocolaitCherrie

Mario is the artist to watch because he’s straight rocking it; up & down, in & out; he’s putting it down the right way. He has some passionate fire burning on it and no one can touch it. Mario is melting the ChocolaitCherrie over here :wink, wink: I just have to speak on his realness because you don’t find his type of swagger too often these days, especially in r&b. He’s taking it to the full spectrum and he’s not perpetrating; that’s why I have loved Mario since he first came out because he came real with it even at age 15 and he is not stopping. Mario is starting to remind of the Stratosphere! And his How Do I Breathe Remix joint with Cassidy is serious!! That’s a good look.

Yes, I love Mario’s song where he says What is going on, everytime he tries to tongue and she’s screaming. He said he wants to tongue!! OOh Mario!! My friend said he made her mouth water when he said that. Looks like he has really grown up with his mannish self!! Alright then Mario!!

Ooh this is just too much for me. Wow Mario wow!! I love the rock edge on this and those drums got it going on. Somebody give the drummer some please. This song has an effect. It might be because he is singing from his stomach. When I was watching a documentary on ‘Pac, I think one of the guys said that Tupac brought it from his stomach, and I think Mario sings from deep within also.

Rihanna can’t sing.. she can carry a key. She sounds like kereoke night everytime she performs live. When her cuteness and novelty have simmered, poeple are going to start focusing on the real issue: the lack of a voice and stage performance that can move people. A lot of people here just seem to be going with the flow. Whatever some “smart” person says is talent all of the parrots eat it up. Yes she might be successful now, but you see them one, you see them all “wannabes” who sell a few albums and in time before you know it disappear. I do not believe Rihanna has what it takes to survive a decade! Lack lustre in voice, lack lustre in performance– she is a novelty a thing being manipulated. She better study her books real hard.
