VOTE FOR NACHERA SMITH FOR ‘OCALA’S TOP MODEL’ CONTEST!

voteforher.jpg
Wanna help someone make history? If you said YES, then go ahead and vote for NaChera Smith in the ‘Ocala Magazine Top Model Contest‘. The magazine has never featured a woman of color on the cover before, so if NaChera wins it would be great for the young sistas in her community.

Check out what she wanted you to know:

I’m a 24 year old single mother, working 2 jobs and in senior fulltime at Florida Southern College , majoring in Business Finance. I have a passion for helping young girls achieve their dreams and am currently wanting to start a program for young black girls age ages 10-17 to better themselves in every aspect (for ex. speech, appearance and confidence).

As for my town, we have come a long way. For me to even be picked out of hundreds of contestants is a huge improvement. Having said that, negative exposure continues to plague our community. Blacks do not get the positive exposure that they deserve. A lot of the times only when someone gets killed, robbed etc. do we ever get any light shined on us or put on the front page of something. So this contest will be helpful. It will hopefully encourage other magazines and newspapers in the community to shine a positive light on the minorities in the area, because we are not all killers, thugs and prostitutes. We do have God in us and are doing positive things.

So hook her up with a vote!! And don’t worry, if they try to pull another Kiri Davis, we’ll be on it!!

Voting ends May 15th 2007!!

  1. Oh Hell No...

@ # 49 I think what people are saying is why would you choose not to support someone whose trying to better the community and help out the kids of the future? Don’t vote just because she’s black vote because she’s using this opportunity as a foot step to reach out to the kids of the future. She already works with youth so she has the experience in dealing with teens and kids, but this type of exposure could help her even more in that area.

    #55, honestly, who cares?

  3. woode29

    @Long Haired Beauty

Your response was just what I expected… all talk huh?

  4. OMG! The word “HATE” is SO overrated. Just because someone disagrees with you or has a different opinion than you, doesn’t mean they are hating. That’s whats wrong with people today. Find another word to use in (some) of ya’ll very limited vocabularies.

Bashy & Beauty made good points. Vote for who you think is best, not for the color of their skin. It’s GREAT to support black people, but only if they are worthy of being supported. That being said, I voted for her. I think she’s beautiful & I love her features.

GAWD help me, if 50 cent runs for president & ya’ll vote for him because HE’S black.

@61 and I feel you on that. I understand that she is trying to get exposure and all that good stuff. Im not even gonna keep commenting on this subject lol. Im gonna keep repeating myself over and over, be called a “hater”, and those who disagree with me will keep calling me ignorant and other names that are irrelevent to my life.

  7. spendalilbit

I’m from Ocala and the cover of the magazine is not solely based on looks it’s top role model, I have seen many of NaChera’s photos and photo shoots and this photo does not nearly do her justice, her wardrobe and make-up was done by the mag stylist, she’s a beauty inside and out..You got my vote

  8. Long Hair Beauty

@Woode29, its the internet. Proving myself on here means nothing. Me posting a picture will not change my like or yours.

  9. Long Hair Beauty

oh, wait, excuse me, I mean my life. Let me correct my typo before you jump on my back once again.

  14. Oh Hell No...

Oh yeah and to # 50 I’m glad you brought that up cause I heard about it, and I will make sure I sign that petition. Those perverts need to get what they deserve and jail time is the least of what they deserve, but atleast we can begin there. I hope all my other CL family members will play apart in signing the petition as well.

  15. Nachera Smith

THIS IS NACHERA. I WANTED TO MAKE SOMETHING CLEAR…THIS IS A ROLE MODEL/COVER MODEL CONTEST FOR OUR COMMUNITY (OCALA, FL) IT SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN A CALLED TOP MODEL BECAUSE PEOPLE THINK OF TYRA BANKS SHOW!!! ITS ABOUT THE PERSON WHO REPRESENTS THE COMMUNITY, NOT WHOSE THE PRETTIEST. AND I HAVE LOVE FOR ALL OF YOU!!! EVEN LONG HAIRED BEAUTY!!!!

  16. NIKKI**LUVBUG$**

thanks for the support. I am going to do my best in DC on September 1. I am so proud to have been invited! If you agree please sign if not I still luv ya. Here’s something to think about…(Lord, help me cuz I am about to put myself out there) I was molested as a little girl and that person, a family member BLOOD FAMILY, went on to become a police officer. I told and other family members said I lied. So as adults I would watch him, his gestures and he knew if he looked at my child I would certainly Kill him. Well low and behold he molested another child! This time a neighbor! It was all over the news! And he did 5 years! My family says the second victim lied! (Thank You Lord for bringing me through with a sound mind) Now he is out and is narried to a chick with 2 daughters and 3 sons. So here I am fighting for this law that could effect my family. But I will fight til God calls me home. I owe it to the kids!

    @52,

MY POINT BY USING ALEK WEK IS THAT SHE IS WAY FAR FROM THE NORM OF WHAT BEAUTY IS DEPICTED HERE IN THE USA. SHE CAME ON THE SCENE AND MADE PEOPLE WHO WERE NOT WHITE OR LIGHT SKIN SAY “HEY, LOOK AT HER. SHE IS MY SKIN TONE, OR SHE HAS SHORT HAIR OR SHE HAS MY FEATURES.” ETC.

SO YOUR COMMENT OF “PLZ DONT LET THE WHITE MEN THINK THAT THIS IS HOW YOUR PEOPLE LOOK” REALLY DID NOT MAKE ANY SENSE. THE LAST TIME I CHECKED, THE “WHITE MAN” STANDARDS ON WHAT IS CONSIDERED BEAUTY WAS THE MORE EUROPEAN THE BETTER– LIGHTER SKIN, LONG, STRAIGHT FLOWING HAIR. SO THATS WHY I WAS GLAD TO SEE ALEK WEK, AND THATS WHY I USED HER AS AN EXAMPLE.

    CO-SIGN 100% WITH WOOD’D COMMENT #61.

  18. NIKKI**LUVBUG$**

Nachera thanks for clearing that up

  19. MAI03

SORRY, i MEANT WOODS COMMENT #58 AND CO SIGN ON COMMENT #61 AS WELL!

  20. @#50 Nikki

I must agree with #54 Woode29. I live in North Florida and I followed the Christopher Barrios story to its tragic conclusion. The brutality that this young boy suffered before he was murdered and then discard on the side of the road in a garbage bag was horrific.

It was the “mandatory” removal of convicted child molester George Edenfield from within the proximity of certain establishments that ultimately put Christopher in harms way. Instead of dealing with the problem of child molestation the “mandate” was to hide them away out of the public eye. Allowing Edenfield and his father to repeatedly sodomize Christopher while the molester’s mother watched after which they choked the boy to death.

Mandatory sentencing only serves to mask a bigger problem and does not deal with the issue. If Christopher’s death proves anything it’s that blind mandates can harm the ones they are ultimately designed to protect. And in Christopher’s case with tragic consequences.

BTW:I voted for Bettina she’s smokin’!!!!
Thanks CL…..I wouldn’t have voted if it wasn’t for you.

@wood yes you’re the typical example of what i was talking about. you say alek wek “appears to be of pure African lineage” so is IMAN, LIYA KEBEDE, and all the other names i mentioned in my post. those are some drop dead gorgeous womn. then you ahve the nerve to ask me if i was ashamed. if i was ashamed would i have found those other purely African women beautiful? would i think that angela basset is stunning? no i wouldn’t. your comment only emphasized my point that white ppl are brainwashing us to believe that black ppl only have 1 look

  22. MAI03

Iman is a beauty, and i’m also saying so is Alek Wek. Iman is a Icon and has represented women of color beautifully. Iman came on the scene and straight changed the game. No argument there.

  23. NIKKI**LUVBUG$**

ez, there is sooooo much more to it than that. Had he had any kind of tracking this baby would not be dead. He would’ve killed regardless of where he lived. Maybe I should reword it. Yes he killed Christopher but Where he lived had nothing to do with his sick mind! He was going to kill/rape regardless. But if the laws were stronger he would be watched more closely. This law is to protect kids against SEX offenders. Not all criminals. Just my opinion.

  24. new yorker

@MAI03 actually who do you think has been telling ppl that this girl is beautiful. WHITE PPL. last i checked white ppl own the fashion industry. to them, alek wek represents what black ppl look like without any mixed blood. yes, she doesn’t represent their ideal of beauty but they want her to reprsent the African ideal of beauty . it’s girls like her that make other races think that Africans are ugly and that all African girls look like Alek. how is that positive for the black community? it’s basically saying “this is what all Africans think is beautiful” but that isn’t true. most Africans that I have met (men and women) find her to be ugly. and guess what? there are girls who have no hair like her, who have wide noses and big lips (stereotypically black features) who are gorgeous. also there have been beautiful black models before who were not light skinned (beverly johnson ring a bell?) that black girls could look up to so why were u so happy when she came on the scene? btw the reason why i got on this point is b/c you questioned top model beauty and put alek’s name in the mix as if to say that she is top model beauty but you don’t understand that alek is not top model beauty. white ppl want u to think that.

  25. new yorker

ok let’s agree to disagree mai03. i think alek is drop dead ugly and u think she’s beautiful. let’s move on. disregard my last post

  26. some of yall need to learn how to read the comment disclaimer, before you ass gets the boot!
