WHAT?! NEW MUSIC FROM LAURYN HILL?!

laurynhill.jpg

We thought that The Fugees were coming out with another album. We thought that Lauryn Hill herself was coming out with another studio album, after those picture swarming all over the internet of her on a “video shoot” surfaced. But just a single, and nothing else came of all of that. Then all of those performances, rumors and comparisons with Amy Winehouse, and people were just begging for Lauryn to come back on the scene. And you’ve got your wish. Although this isn’t typical “Miseducation” Lauryn, I’m glad that she is doing something different. It sounds like she’s finally through with whatever it was she was going through and is ready to offer up her fans what they’ve been waiting on for so long.

NOTE: My apologies about the slowed down version of the song. For some reason, supload.com does that when you upload certain songs – haven’t figured out why. I updated the links with the real version of the song.

^^ Prolly because they have it slowed down.

  2. She is the shit, always has been and always will be. I like the slower version better but both ones are hot and yes I will be first in line to get her album when it comes on! GO GIRL, ITS ABOUT TIME YOU CAME BACK!

  4. TeedraFan

Honestly. This sounds like a track that has her vocals from something else on it. I dont think she actually made this mess. I heard a interview with Lauryn, and what she’s going through is bigger than just hey, i want to put out an album. Music biz is politics, and if you dont say what they want you to say, or do how they want you to do, your silenced. So stop wearing her the hell out and support the sista!!

  5. The KoolBitch dat Keep a Glass fill To Da Rim

    glad she back

I love this song!! I honestly believe she is speaking to her fans. To me its her explanation as to why she’s been away. Well, thats what it sounds like to me.

I believe she came out with this funny sounding song to compete with that Jew junky girl.

Honestly people, Laurynn Hill wont thinking about making no album till her competition came up to squash her.

I love her in all sincerity and I am happy she is back but to be honest I didn’t know she was so fragile.

I mean, I know she went through hell, but dayum WHO HASN’T GIRL???

We all need a break from the stresses of this life but I was told what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. I believe that Lauryn, I hope that after reading this your people will help you to believe it to.

    BLESSINGS!!

  8. I totally agree with the idea that R&B is dead. It’s a darn shame that people think we are that stupid as to purchase anything by Cassie, Rhianna and the rest of the non-singing models. Call a Spade a Spade u guys.

Anywho, Lauryn please making another soul-stirring hit that I can jam too.

  9. hesoarrogant

I just can’t say anything negative about L-Boogie…much respect! The song is nice and it sounds like the Lauren Hill we fell in love w/ is back. In parts of the song her voice is deep(might have been going for that sound) nevertheless, she sounds good. Do you baby.

    >>>>> Maybe she wrote that in a “moment” of fragility (which we all have). I don’t think she’s fragile :) , the only reason she been “hiding” is because she didn’t wanna compromise herself for record labels, that’s how it started. Lots of folks turned their backs on her, and the rumors about her “craziness” started (Dave Chapelle been victim of the same conspiracy, because he didn’t wanna compromise himself and even refused millions of dollars). She did call some “pastor” but that spiritual guide misguided her (I hope she left him alone). At this point I think she has a hard time trusting people. She’s also raising 5 kids (which is to her more important than her music) and searching for answers spiritually. She’s already recorded a lot of new songs (a few of them on Youtube) but they won’t come out until things get better with her label. Her album was supposed to be titled “THE KHALUMI PHASE”. But I just wanted to tell you, she’s not fragile or dying, she’s strong and doing her ;) .

  11. Please sign the LAURYN HILL petition to let Columbia Records know that we want Lauryn’s album out and we support artistic freedom (which she doesn’t have) :

    http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/laurynhill/

There are over 10 000 signatures, if you’ve already signed, well send the link to everyone you know!!

  12. Lauryn doesn’t wanna compromise herself as an artist, for those who want to know why her new songs didn’t come out read this :

I was introduced to someone who used to work for Columbia’s marketing department… As most of you know Columbia is the label Lauryn Hill is signed to… I asked him about Lauryn and her new project and why is it taking so long to be released to the public… Many of us blame Lauryn for this delay but the truth is that the situation is out of her hands… This particlar person told me that he was present when they held a meeting for her album proposal sometime last year… They listened to the whole album and ultimately turned the project down… They told Lauryn that the album was not good enough… The dude told me the album was BRILLIANT but cuz it sounds different than “Miseducation…” the label is afraid it will not sell. They told Lauryn to work on some new songs… Lauryn was very upset and said she did not understand their lack of faith when she sold 8 million albums of “Miseducation…” She mentioned how she will start her own label and release this album and others and not have to humiliate herself asking for approval.
So it has been confirmed that Lauryn does have a completed album its just a matter of finding people who have faith in her and this album… The person who told me this assured me the album is a masterpiece and something new and fresh but its not very radio friendly… I suspected for a long time that Columbia was responsible for the delay in this project. They are also responsible for pushing Lauryn to record a reunion album with the Fugees since they refuse to release her solo record… I hope Lauryn starts her own label so we dont have to deal wit Columbia’s shyt.

Please know that the petition you are referencing was never based on fact. Columbia nor Lauryn has ever said that they are blocking the release of her album. In the press release for the Surf’ Up movie the record company is welcoming her back. I also read another report saying that her album will not sound at all like this song “Lose Myself” and will be released in late 2007 or early 2008. I think they are shooting for a 10th anniversary release.

  14. blackisbeautiful

Well the song is for a movie so I doubt if this song is going to make it on her album if she drops one this year..but it’s real cute though..and I never saw Amy Winehouse as Lauryn Hill for some reason…she doesn’t sound like her at all!..No comparison to me..sorry people…But I like both artist

  15. Masarati

I LUVS it and for real its the God honest truth we put ourselves through the wire and alot of the pain we accept from other people we inflict on ourselves and 1 day u wake up and realize u had to go through all that so that we would stand for more and gratness today. She hit it right on the head im feeling it. Bottom line is we have to love ourselves. Go Ms. Hill

  16. Damn Straight

I likes it a lot. Welcome back Ms Hill :D

  17. Maybe we need something un-radio friendly. look at how much radio friendly shit doesn’t sell (Brooke V, Nivea, Natasha, Nicole Wray, Toni’s new stuff, etc.)

  18. HARLEMBLKCHIX

LOVE IT ALOT, GLAD TO KNOW THAT LAURYN IS BACK!!!! VERY 60′S POP VIBE TOO IT, WITH SOUL TOO IT! AND NO WAY IN HELL AMY WINEHOUSE NOR JOSS STONE CAN HOLD UP TO LAURYN HILL! LAURYN IS MUSIC AND SOUL!!! AND THAT’S WHAT MUSIC LACKING TODAY THE ESSENCE AND TRUTH!!!!

  19. Mr Eff

Lauryn is a dope artist but this song as a whole is pretty wack. The beat sounds like something the Beach boys would sing over.Make a nigga wanna go surfin or something.I know people say “it’s different” and all that, but “different ” doesnt always mean hot..Good to see, she’s on the comeback trail though

  20. Mos-Def

I love Lauryn but this song is absolutely awful, everything except the lyricism is surely not her? (i.e. that f-ed up cheesy music) So I assume someone else produced it.

In any case if this means she’s back, it’s on! I can’t wait for the 2nd Lauryn Hill studio album, get releasing girl!

P.S. Stop comparing her to Amy Winehouse, I love them both and I don’t get it, they are not even similar artists. (Amy isn’t even Neo-Soul)

  21. P

Hell has frozen over. L Boogie is back.

  22. QBEVE

About damn time Lauren. I am blessed to see her here at the Paramount in Oakland, CA on June 27th. My damned ticket was $160.00, this was the cheapest ticket going..with prices like this, she needs to come back with a new joint! This is my gurl though…but hot damn her special concert ticket prices are off the heezy! Can’t wait though!

  23. bruhman05

I think the song needs to grow on me. I like the lyrics but i felt like the production of the song rushed the emotion of it… I dont know i feel like she could have tore it up but didnt… but shes proved herself on more than one occasion so whatever she does i will support because i know somewhere in there is real music

  24. Lauryn Hill is the truth

    WE LOVE YOU

  25. Selina

WHY AM I NOT EAGER TO HEAR THIS???? isnt it a bit 2 late?

  26. Yayuh

Aww I don’t like seeing artists get old. I remember how she was in Sister Act 2, she looks so old now – how old is she?

Her song is ok though, not a favourite of mine but it’s ok.

  27. hood_shit

    is this really new?

  28. hood_shit

Not gonna say “SHE’S BACK” because she’s been BACK before as Brian noted, HOWEVER this is a nice welcome if it is.

  29. @ #132 Chante, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT LINK! I will definitely be signing and emailing that petition to everyone in my address book.

LOVE HER, LOVE HER, LOVE HER! I am so glad she has returned to the scene. I have to admit the beat was just garbage but it seems like she is still on with her vocals and penmanship. Lauryn…WE NEED YOU! Please save us!

  30. Blkpoetx

I like it… sounds like a studio version of songs from last album.

  31. Ne'= word in the street is we go together. SOOOO lets stop with the play cousin fuckery! Ne'

I like this sing. However I think she was high while recording.

  32. P

The track will be a part of an animated feature film called “Surf’s Up”, that’s why it sounds like a 60s Beach Boy-Surfer Dude-type song (lol). I love it.

  33. D-MAN

I HOPE SHE GETS OFF THIS WISDOM SHIT

  34. Dee

Glad she’s back, but why she look like that?

  35. sweetpea

I DO MISS LAURYN BUT I DON’T KNOW IF IT WILL EVER BE THE SAME

  36. Lem Judah

Let me say this: LOVE THE SONG.

    Good job Lauryn.

Also, why don’t some of you stop talking shit about Amy Winehouse. That woman is incredibly talented. Do not tear her down by saying she isn’t as talented as lauryn. Amy Winehouse is INCREDIBLY talented. She may not be completely as talented as Lauryn, but she’s probably the closest to Lauryn we have know. And Amy’s album is BRILLIANT. Back to Black is an instant classic, so give her some credit please. And while you talking, be aware that this song is not even Lauryn’s style. It sounds like Amy’s style, so who’s biting who? I love Lauryn, but sometimes we as fans want to pick one artist and tear down another. let’s give both credit, ya dig. Both are immensely talented.

having said that, Lauryn is just constantly an inspiration. Whenever you think she has finally disappointed, she comes back with something tight.

This aint her best. Yelling in recent concerts has clearly taken a toll on her voice severely, but the passion is still there. The lyrics and music are on point. Sounds very Winehouse-ian, which is to say Mark Ronson-ish. (Mark Ronson is the one responsible for creating Amy’s 60′s sound)….BY THE WAY SALAAM REMI WORKED HEAVILY ON BACK TO BLACK WITH MARK RONSON…AND SALAAM USED TO WORK HEAVILY WITH THE FUGEES. So Amy and Lauryn aren’t biting each other…they just are using the same producers whose styles have always been 60′s, eclectic, organic, etc.

Go Lauryn. I’ve very please. It would make me incredibly happy to see Lauryn at peace and back in love with her art.

  37. ddub

Sounds like a man? I don’t think so. Her voice is definitely has a little more depth, but it’s that good stuff. This song is great. Love the beat — different sound for Lauryn, but a good 1.

  38. luv2023

wow, love lauren but this song sucks definitly not killing me softly

  39. Love Lauryn and can’t wait to hear more from her!!!!!

  40. HarlemNYC

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVEEEEE THIS NEW JOINT!!! DAYUM, I MISS SOME L-BOOGZ IN MY LIFE!.

  41. kay

for some odd reason when i hear this…i hear sanjaya…but lauryn’s my girl…i’m feeling her on this one…too bad she “lost” herself because of “love”

  42. lala

it really pisses me off when people compare white trash amy winehouse to lauryn hill. People who think amy can be compared to lauryn are clearly on drugs or retarded. There is nothing similar btw the 2 lauryn is a poet,a great lyricist her music represents many things sociallly and politically, she is also a writer, producer, rapper and singer and amy is just a singer and she only sings about relationships. With Lauryn sounding like a man on her new song i dont understand whats the fuss because she has always had a deep voice back from the fugees until the miseducation.

And that is what sets her apart from other female artists because she sings and raps with command she has never had that squeaky irritating voice. Please people give support because non of the music that is being played today makes sense. I am happy to see her back wish her all the best.

  43. Herve

It seems to me that most everyone fails to listen to Lauryn’s message. This song is literally a beautiful love letter to her fans. It is delivered with such sincerity and heart. I would become a fan of any of you commentators who can write and sing me your pain with such clarity, with such poetry, while simultaneously making me the better for it. This is the genius of Lauryn Hill. The sound is a new departure but a welcome one, and it is best described as an updated circa 60′s sound. I could not care less about this pretension of how it could be better mixed. She has succeeded to seamlessly speak her truth and I was touched. I applaud her in her courage and am thankful that she sings to benefit me. Thank you Lauryn, Thank you.

Lauren Hill is my 90′s all time favorite R&B signer.

She’s got all a artist must have: She’s just who she is and i RESPECT that.

Lauren will come back and if she doesn’t she’s left a big piece of her history that might become yours also one day.

I agree with GIGI, Ms. Hill I love you and your music. I believe that her next album will be on a different level (and yes, Lela does have a strong vibe like Lauryn yet distinctively her own). Ms. Hill also has a song called The Hustle of the World which I was only able to find on Ebay. Also she has another single on utube posted under Spoken Truth (which I don’t think that is the actual name of the song but I’m not sure). GIGI from the look of most of these comments, some of them are still to young to understand where Lauryn is coming from or just don’t want to understand because it doesn’t fit into the normality of the rest of the world’s flow of the way life should go. I do not believe Ms. Hill to be crazy at all, only someone with a heart could write in the manner in which she does…she’s in search for something deeper that the eye can see but only can be felt. There is also a song called “The Passion” on the Passion soundtrack. There is no greater love than that of yourself and God…keep loving yourself Lauryn and you’ll find your way home.
