Yolanda King, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s eldest child who pursued her father’s dream of racial harmony through drama and motivational speaking, collapsed and died after making a speech. She was 51.
King died late Tuesday in Santa Monica, California, said Steve Klein, a spokesman for the King Center. The family did not know the cause of death, but relatives think it might have been a heart problem, he said.
“She was an actress, author, producer, advocate for peace and nonviolence, who was known and loved for her motivational and inspirational contributions to society,” the King family said in a statement. [READ MORE]

If it weren’t for the King family and people like Malcolm X, my parents would never have come to the United States. It’s sad that this post will probably not reach 200 + comments, especially when Mrs. King and the rest of her family have done so much for us.

I heard about this first thing this morning and words can’t express my sympathies. As much as I love my family, I can’t imagine the pressure one must go through being the child of a King (or a Shabazz for that matter). It’s also my understanding she doesn’t have any kids. I hope in the wake of Yolanda’s passing, the remaining children can now put aside the differences that’s been keeping them apart all these years. This goes to show not only how precious life is, but how the King tradition can’t simply be left up to the family. I mean look at how many people post here in a day. There’s power in numbers and I for one will forever be indebted to the man, the family and the legacy that made it all possible… In Jesus’ name… Amen.

i’m proud that a wonderful woman such as herself was able to leave such a mark in the cold, repressive society.
her story should have been first.not these other people who will not leave a legacy such as yolonda king.our people are dying at an alarming rate. i do not know the cause of her death but i myself am a big girl. i know i need to handle that quick, fast, and in a hurry. by the way gerald levert and anna nicole both had drugs in their systems. so that is different.i hope she is resting in peace.

Someone I don’t know sent me a photo of Yolanda which must of been right after her death laid out so beautifully on her chair she looks just like she is asleep.
Wow! this is really sad. My prayers go out to the other siblings. May they all find peace and unity and continue the legacy their parents and sister left behind. I think thi is just a warnning to all of our people to take care of our selves. All of us are too busy and stress will kill you. RIP Yolanda King
