The BET Awards was on and popping in Hollywood this year. From Mo’Nique’s big performance to the Gerald Levert tribute – this year provided something for everyone.

Jennifer Hudson & Jennifer Holiday ON STAGE

Tianna: Ok, I hinted that one for ya’ll in the Gearing Up For The BET Awards post, remember?! I knew these two would be performing together and what a way to open the show. A lot of people thought Ms. Holiday was bitter after “Dreamgirls” but, it was good to see her sing live with the young J.H – and they were just sangin’. They really got some powerful voices, and Jennifer Holiday got some fierce faces on stage too!
Angel: Jennifer Hudson can fucking blow!! I knew Jennifer Holiday was gonna come out. I gotta give them love for that. But my girl Jennifer Holiday looked like she was about to go into diabetic shock. All that jittering and stuff was crazy. And yall know that ending was drawn out, they could have left that home. Overall, it was good to see them perform together and dead all that drama.
Brian: Jennifer Hudson opening with “And I Am Telling You?” I’m sorry, I just didn’t really get into that. But the fact that Jennifer Holiday came out with her was really good. I was hoping that there was a twist to it and they gave it to me. But Jennifer Hudson messing up the words? That really kind of made me cringe when she screwed up the words to the song. The concept was really good, but I don’t think the opening was well executed. It seemed like it wasn’t rehearsed… especially since Jennifer Hudson didn’t get the words right.
MO’NIQUE’S BIG ENTRANCE
Angel: Mo’Nique is fly. I’m so happy LL Cool J didn’t diss her and helped her out with that shoe. The big girl dancers tore it up, but I actually think the 2004 performance was better than this one. Gotta love Mo’Nique though.
Brian: Monique is absolutely hilarious.
Tianna: She is so crazy. Yes, she is on Beyonce nuts but, her and them big girls be working the stage. I just love how she had the big girls posing in the back after the performance “getting their camera time”. And was I the only one who thought it was hot when sexy LL Cool J came up there to take off her shoe? I hope she shaved that day for that one…
T.I.P HIT THE STAGE

Brian: I absolutely love T.I. As I said last year, his stage performances are always so theatrical. That’s what I love about him. He always has so much energy during performances. It’s like he can go on for hours and hours. It’s like he never misses a beat and he’s so passionate about what he does.
Tianna: It was ok. I’m not really feeling his material lately so, it was hard for me to feel the performance. I will say T.I is a hype performer with a lot of energy. It was funny when he left Yayo hanging on that dap and to see Diana Ross getting her big things poppin’…
Angel: I loved T.I.’s performance. He killed it. I liked how we went out to the crowd and gave love. He had everybody from Chris Brown to Diana Ross getting down. Much love to him for apologizing for his behavior earlier this week too. That was a good look.
NE-YO PERFORMED ‘SEXY LOVE’ & ‘MAKE ME BETTER’ w/ FAB

Tianna: I got a little MJ vibe off it…not a great MJ copy, but for what it was – it was ok. Of course it got more hype when he did that joint with Fab. A great hip hop banger with half naked girls on stage, makes the audience wake up.
Angel: You’re right Tianna, the audience did wake up when “Make Me Better” came on. Ne-yo’s performance was boring to me. I love his music, but that performance was blah.
Brian: Ne-Yo isn’t entertaining to me. He is a really great songwriter, and I think that’s about it. I wasn’t drawn in by his performance until “Make Me Better” came on. I honestly just starting having a conversation during the performance until “Make Me Better” came on.
Diddy, Keyshia Cole, & Lil Kim perform

Angel: I liked the performance. Keyshia looked and sounded great this year. I know you all remember that horrible rendition she did of “Love” last year. Lil Kim is back, and hyper than ever. Lol. Oh yeah, Diddy was on the stage too, he did aiight.
Tianna: Why the hell was Diddy lip singing? I mean, does it take much to sing that song? Keyshia’s new bob looks good, but she should perform in shoes she can dance in. Lil Kim busting on stage with her lil freaky tail did it for me. She was the only hype thing in the perfromance.
Brian: Keyshia Cole looked absolutely beautiful in the “Last Night” performance. I was so happy that Lil’ Kim came out. Kim and Keyshia stole the show. Diddy did absolutely nothing, but that doesn’t surprise me, he wasn’t singing worth a lick – that was all lip-synching with reverb. That was the Kim and Keyshia show, seriously. He didn’t even need to be up there. I loved the song, Keyshia Cole really sounded absolutely wonderful in comparison to last year’s performance. Get it girls.
BEYONCE, KELLY, MICHELLE, & SOLANGE WORK IT OUT

Tianna: Good lawd, this performance was big. Kelly, Michelle, Solange, and then Mo’Nique?! I’m so glad Bee performed Get Me Bodied, she was definitely GETTIN IT. At first, when we saw that robot on stage – I know ya’ll was like WTF?! But Bee knows how to push the envelope. Kelly came out and did her thing, she was working that little booty of hers! Then the end, when all four of them just was poppin’ all over the place, ya’ll saw the men in the building drooling?
Brian: Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Michelle and Solange ate that performance. That was so energetic, the concept was hot, I enjoyed that performance thoroughly. Beyonce gave me everything I needed, vocally, plus more. Kelly Rowland, although her vocal performance was lack-luster towards the beginning, she gave a lot towards the end. It was so refreshing to see Solange and Michelle as well, it was just great all around. I even loved Michelle, and that’s random for me.
Angel: Dope performance, can’t even hate. Beyonce was working it and when she introduced Kelly Rowland I was like, “Oh Shit!” Kelly killed it and looked great. The ending was dope too. I see Solange trying to get her shine now.
ROBIN THICKE
Tianna: I wasn’t feeling all the swaying he was doing but, he sounded great because I heard otherwise. I thought he would perform “Can You Believe”, which I absolutely love. I forgot about “Lost Without You” (as much as they played that song, right?), would’ve been tighter if his wife came on stage.
Angel: I love me some Robin Thicke (who doesn’t?) But that performance was wack as hell. He can’t dance either. LMAO!
Brian: Robin Thicke is great to me. Although the performance didn’t draw me in like I thought he would, I think that he’s great, and I’m glad he got some love at the BET Awards.
Gerald Levert Tribute w/ YOLANDA ADAMS, GLADYS KNIGHT, PATTI LABELLE, & EDDIE LEVERT

Tianna: Beautiful. To see his Dad singing, was heartfelt. If he would’ve started crying, it would be over for me. Patti, Gladys, and Yolanda – I mean what can I say about these power houses? We need more voices like that in r&b.
Brian: The Gerald Levert tribute was great. All of those powerhouse vocals on stage, paying their respects. I really got a little tear in my eye to see his father up their singing. It just really got me a little chocked up, because I think that’s got to be one the saddest thing — for a parent to proceed their child.
Angel: I teared up as well. When Eddie Levert started singing, I know it had to be hard for him. Great tribute though. Did yall see Keyshia Cole and them crying?
50 Cent performs Amusement Park
Brian: I thought it was pretty random that 50 Cent was performing. It was boring, but it was short so I didn’t mind it too much.
Angel: Shit was wack. It took him 15 minutes to start rapping the song. He was all up in the crowd shaking hands and laughing. I swear his rich-ass makes me sick. But he was looking kind of buff in that wife beater! Holler!
Tianna: Ummm now, did he forget his “own” lyrics or was he lip syncing and had a malfunction? Whatever the case, he was wack for doing all that cursing and walking around like a lost bafoon afterwards. This should show 50 that he needs to get back in the studio and do something different – or stick to Vitamin Water.
THE Diana Ross tribute w/ Erykah Badu & Stevie Wonder

Angel: Another great tribute. Erykah killed it! And I never noticed she had a booty. LOL. Not like I was looking, but when she turned around I was like WTF? Now I see why she had Andre 3000 and Common acting all crazy. Diana is truely a legend, eff what you heard.
Tianna: Yo Erykah was doing her thing. She sounded great and did she get thicker? Chaka was sangin’ but did she forget the words at one point? She played it off better than 50 anyway. I love Stevie, he’s such an amazing musician to watch.
Brian: Diana Ross tribute was amazing, I think it’s great how they just showed what a fashion icon and legend that Diana was. Erykah Badu looked absolutely beautiful during the tribute. I loved the wig and I really loved how she added her own touch to those songs. She sounded wonderful. Chaka Khan is amazing to me, I love her to death, but it really looked like she was singing to pre-recorded vocals, but I noticed that on certain notes, her mouth just wasn’t moving. I love it.

Angel: Loved her performance. I wish she danced in the crowd the whole time, she was killing it. I also loved how she got her dancer to put the jacket on her at the end. Dope! I have to give Ciara her props, she is a great dancer. Oh and I saw her sitting next to 50 Cent. hmmmm
Tianna: I like how she did that split jump off the stage. She’s a good performer but, she should’ve probably lip synced because she sounded out of breathe. I like how she started poppin’ in Solange’s face too…
Brian: Ciara’s performance was okay, but I was expecting a lot more. She is a great dancer, but I feel like there could have been more energy and it ended abruptly. I loved that she went into “That’s Right” from “Like A Boy,” I was praying that she was going to perform “Can’t Leave ‘Em Alone” (featuring 50 Cent). I just feel like Ciara could have given us a little more. Usually her performances givem e so much more and have so much energy. I love the new hair though, it’s great.
DON CHEADLE GETS HUMANITARIAN AWARD
Brian: I went to the bathroom during this part.
Tianna: Don Cheadle is a well deserved actor and humanitarian. I thought his speech after receiving the award was heartfelt. He seems so genuine and humble with his success, I wish him the best. I still remember when he played Ice Tray on The Fresh Prince…
Angel: I’m so happy he got this award. I’ve been a fan of him for years now and it’s great to see good man getting his propers.
James Brown tribute:
Tianna: This tribute was wonderful for the late James Brown. I love when BET brings us back with old school Hip Hop icons (yes Flavor is an icon in Hip Hop, but with Chuck of course). They just keep the show hype and the same happened this year. Public Enemy had everybody gettin’ it, ya’ll even saw Bee doing her thing.
Angel: LOVED IT! Say it loud! I’m black and I’m proud. James Brown was a true legend and inspired everyone in music. Public Enemy tore it up and had me pumping up my fist.
Brian: James Brown’s tribute was seriously full of energy, it was really great. I loved that it was Black Star Power and they rounded off the award show with “I’m Black & I’m Proud.” It just really made me feel proud to be a black person, and just to see how beautiful and classy and powerful our people are.
ENDINGS..
Fave part:
Angel: Um, my favorite part would have to be the James Brown Tribute. Everyone in the crowd was feeling it and it was a great way to end the show. I also loved that Beyonce gave Kelly some love. So everyone can dead those beef rumors.
Brian: I know this is typical and cliche, but honestly, my favorite part of the show was Beyonce, Kelly, Solange and Michelle. I thought that Beyonce’s performance was so full of energy and so well put together. It was just so much fun and my eyes were glued to the screen. I absolutely loved it.
Tianna: My favorite part of the show: The four part screen showing Destiny’s Child and Solange poppin’ their booties
OVERALL:
Brian: Overall, the awards were not as amazing as last year. I think that they tried to top last year’s award show, and it didn’t work out for them. I did love the fact that everyone looked absolutely fabulous, and it was just really good to see beautiful black people doing their thing and just being classy. I didn’t think the awards were trashy at all, I just thought it was a beautiful thing to see successful black people. Big ups!
Angel: I thought the show was 10x better than last year. They had a mix of performers and the overall vibe was dope. Everyone in the crowd was up and dancing and I actually enjoyed a large portion of the performances.
Tianna: I thought the show this year was a lot better than the last. I’m not the hugest fan of Mo’Nique, but she did her thing as host. Hopefully, BET will continue to raise the bar…and we will be there next year folks!

The show was a bit boring as if it were missing something. Monique should have left that big girl back up dancer stuff in the past I know she adores BeYonce but damn she acting a bit infatuated. Was Gold the “IT” color this year? It looked like that robot top on bee was cutting her air supply to the girls but I Love the black dress Miss thang changed into I must admit she rocked that. WTF was T-pain thinking?
It was great to see Erykah/Keyshia both are still a favorite. 50 cents’ performance could have gone to someone else what a waste of air- time. I have a new respect for T.I he was a man and admitted his mistake and that is sexy as hell.

James Brown Tribute: It made me feels so proud to be black ( at least until they start acting up in the club)
Ciara: She was aight, was expecting more but she looked good. Somebody brought up a good point about the 25? They were talking about it on Doug Banks this morning. Saying Reggie Bush playing number or taking a shot at Beyonce’s age but the Top 25 countdown makes perfect sense. And Bow Wow was shook when she was next to him. Had on his Ray Charles glasses(I know your eyes was watery boy)
Overall I thought the show was okay. I was expecting more from it. As Brian once said, “It left me cold.” And my bedsheets couldn’t make me warm about it.

T.I. – He worked the crowd the best. Even Diana got it poppin’
DC3 Reunion – Didn’t like it the first time I saw it, but on the second watch I appreciated it much more. I’m a little tire of Beyonce’s songs and this whole B-Day album error. I like get be bodied, but I think the chorepography she does for it takes away from the feel of the song. Kelly looked ridicoulously fly. Her body is sic, but her vocals were NOT on the money. Always like to see Eve, but wish she would have worn something more vibrant.
Ciara – I love this girl. She could wake someone out a coma. She’s a natural performer and danced the shit out of that stage. Her hair looked great too. Go Ci CI, don’t hurt em.
Gerald Levert Tribute – THAT’s SINGING. NUFF SAID!
Erykah Badu – love to see her. adorable w/ the wig and daaaaammnnn i didn’t know Erykah was think like that?
Diddy, Keyshia Cole, Lil’ Kim – Keyshia OWNED that performance, made be like the song more. I wish she was more comfortable in those shoes and those pants though, girlfriend looked like she couldn’t wait to get out of those shoes. I wish she would’ve just cut that short and went into “let it go” w/ Kim, that would’ve been dope
Don Cheadle = GRACIOUS, GENUINE, HUMBLE, EARNEST
You know i just peeped the Kylie performance. Beyonce, you played yourself. That’s not an interpretation – that’s and identical entrance. Kylie is not some under ground artisit. She is a huge pop star and she’s KNOWN for her stage shows. I’m sure she creates the type of show, Beyonce would like to have one day as far as theatrics is concerned, but I’d like to see her do something orignional that’s show stopping.
Monique performance was hottttt lol i never seen a whole bunch of big beautiful women dance like that she was doing the damn thing she really showed skinny bitches she bringing BIG SEXY BACKKKKKKKKK

My favorite part was the Destiny’s Child/Solange Reunion. I thought that was pretty hot, even though I wish Kelly would have had her own set. It was slick, well put together and well thought out. It would have been hotter if Michelle and Solange had singles to perform in the set to..but we know they cant do THAT much lmao.
The worse performance was prolly 50 Cent or Neyo. Okay 50, You looked sexy in that beater but wtf you did not need to be cussin at America, We know your gangsta, we know you got shot 90 times..O, I mean 9 times. Nobody cares anymore, Take yourself to the amusement park. His album is pushed back to December, there was no need for him to even perform..other than seeing his lickable arms!! Neyo, Ne-Yo has some good songs but I’m mad he never changes up his singing, Its already bad enuf that his voice is average. He had a nice shirt on too, I was diggin that sheer shit…It was very Prince like.

Diddy, Ok i gotta admit I loved his performance. His rich ass is so dramatic. To bad he was lipping, Keyshia sounded AMAZING! Bitch must have gotten some vocal training, cause last year…wow lets not even go there. Patti Labelle killed it in the Gerald Tribute. She had me crying, Pattie stole the show and ran with it..or should I saw flew with it! I was like get it Patti in that african cinderella dress with your 10 gallon boobs!! Thats one fierce old bitch!!
Dianna Ross and her brady bunch kids came out, I looked up and said DAMN LIGHT SKIN IS BACK! I didnt even know she had all those kids. I knew she had the one girl by Barry Gordo, then the girlfriends chick, Then the ugly boy from ATL who is dating Adrienne Bailon, and then thats it. Iono wherre them other kids came from. Dianna was gettin it IN!!. Her hair still looked a mess, and The tribute to her was BOOORINNGG.
Jennifer Hudson and Jennifer Holiday was another great part of the show. Other than Jennifer’s gut hanging out that dress.

I won’t say that this was the best BET Awards but I enjoyed most of the performances…Namely: T.I., DC4, The Diana Ross Tribute(Eryka was GREAT!!!), Ne-Yo and Fabolous(It didn’t care about Ne-Yo’s solo performance tho), The James Brown Tribute, Mo’Nique, Keyshia and Lil’ Kim(Diddy was just BLAH)….But as for the Beyonce “Biting” sitchation…Some of you need to get your facts straight because Kylie Minogue was NOT the first person to use robots…and I doubt Beyonce’ will be the last…So, I think that some of you need to stop saying that Beyonce’ stole or whatever because I doubt any of you can name the person that she stole it from…

Um JHUD didnt forget the words nor did she mess up the words, this is not a duet, they had to switch it up to make it flow, instead of just having one sing a verse then the other, i think they both did a great job, the young Jennifer bought her A game because we all knew JHolliday can Sang that song… i’m so proud of JHud… dang i love her voice, the range is really nice… Whitney told the world this young girl can SANG and that lady has a great voice… now i can truly see what the “Voice” has seen all along.
The award show was cool as ever. I liked it alot, everything was on point.
Oh yeah and Mo’Niqye did her thang… Everybody did good. Ciara’s performance was tight too…

First off I just want to say that I’ve been watching the BET awards every year and they have been the best (hands down)!! But this year I must say there were several DISSAPOINTMENTS!!! I am a huge fan of all types of music and I’d like to say I know my stuff!! First of all Not to make her feel any more special than “everyone has seemed to have made her” Beyonce is a tad bit old don’t cha think? And no I’m definitely not a HATER what I am a fan and supporter of many other artists who don’t to get enough opportunity, proper credit, or RESPECT they well deserve. The way they blew this whole show up had everyone tuned in as expected but I must say I was turned off once I knew the show evolved around Miss Knowles!! I love my girl Mo’Nique but if you really want to challenge yourself try busting a move by the BEST DANCER ALIVE Miss Ciara.!! This show started off on a wonderful note…even the pre-show was popping!! But the show became very dry early on…me and friends found ourselves placing the TV on mute several times…and I’ve NEVER had to nor wanted to do that during the BET awards. This is something I look forward to all year. The award winners were okay but seriously have people stopped listening to the words and remembering what REAL MUSIC is and sounds like…? Since when do artist get nominated twice in one category?!? That’s doing a bit much I think…there’s no hope for our other artist!! The performances just seemed to be laid back and tired some!! I just feel like we keep seeing the same artist perform year after year…show after show!! There is enough Black Star Power to allow everyone to perform once in a while…and I do mean solo!! Fantasia, Keyshia (alone!) Cole,Tamia, Lil Wayne, LeToya, Alicia Keys, Nas, Kelis, The Game, Mary J. Blige, Bow Wow, Kelly Rowland (alone!), Ice Cube, Bone Thugs, Ginuwine, Tank, Tyrese, 3 6 Mafia, Donell Jones, Stephen Marley, Sean Paul, Ruben, Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake, R. Kelly, B. G., Monica, Snoop, Webbie, Boosie, Shareefa, Jamie Foxx, Dip Set, Trey Songz, Mario, Huey, Luda, Young Joc, T-Pain, Method Man, Musiq Soulchild, Corrine Bailey Rae, Maxwell, Jahiem, Mike Jones, Chamillionaire, Lil Scrappy, UGK, Lil Mama, Rich Boy…and I can go on and on forever…there are more artist than just Beyonce. This is not about knocking artist but it’s about who and what we want to see!! And I am a fan of all the above but they all need OPPORTUNITIES!! I feel that Kelly and her music has earned enough respect for her performance to be announced by a presenter without you know who…and Fifty why even keep letting him destroy his career…T.I. it’s a repeat…Ne-Yo and Fabo were very boring and too NEW…Jennifer Hudson and Mrs. Holiday were
phenomenal!…Beyonce….Beyonce seen it all before…the tributes were nice but I would have like to see Mrs. Diana sing…Lil Wayne the Best Rapper? Of course he is and I know he better start performing very soon…and last but certainly the best of the night Miss Ciara!! She did her thang put down and showed us who was boss…why do folks even question her dancing ability she can do the unthinkable. Number 25 I think not!!! She proved that wrong day ONE…well I think things are clear and I hope the BET establishments takes some advice and invite some other beautiful and talented artist to join them in years to come!! This years BET awards were surprisingly good. I didn’t expect it to be as good as last years awards but it was pretty close.
~ J. Hud and Ms. Holiday’s performance was good but I expected so much more out of the both of them. It sounded like something they just threw together.
~Mo’Nique’s entrance was as memorable as always….she never fails to represent for the big girls. But when will she find another artist to imitate? It was cute the first time she did Beyonce but now it’s time to either do her own thing or find another artist to imitate.
~T.I. had a good performance but he’s starting to get boring as an artist. His music is slacking these days.
~Michael Jackson….uh….I mean Ne-yo was whomp whomp. I would’ve preferred MJ instead of a horrible imitation….but Fab did his thing!
~Diddy was boring but Keyshia and Kim were good
~Beyonce’s performance was slamming!!!!!! The dancing, the vocals, EVERYTHING was on point!!!! Kelly looked nice and she was hype but her singing was absolutely horrble. I loved the end with the split screens………but is it just me or did Michelle look crazy !!!!!????!!!

Why are people saying Ciara could have done more singing. Did you see how hard that child was dancing?!?! There is no way in the world she could do all that dancing and sing every word. Furthermore, she wasn’t singing a ballad, it’s not much she can do with the song vocally, period. It’s not that type of song. And for the life of me…Why are people questioning why people are not talking about things that have already been said a million times. Ciara murdered her performance! I absouletly loved it. Nobody is seeing her in the dance department. That’s what you call stage presence.
Ciara has said from day one has stated that Janet is somebody that she grew up watching, but her main inspiration is Michael Jackson. I guess since she is female, Janet has to be her main idol. Michael and Janet were dressed alike in scream, so why is she just compared to Janet? The did not have n o football leather outfits on, or a bra.
