I’m an Afro-Latina(Puerto Rican mother, Black father) and I wasn’t going to say anything because I don’t feel like arguing with people who obviously don’t know history. For the people wondering why non-Puerto Ricans attend the parade it’s because here in NYC there is a certain amount of unity amongst certain cultures, especially living clumped up next to each other. It’s not perfect, there’s still prejudice but we do coexist. Just like when the West Indian Day Parade comes around you would see Puerto Ricans and Dominicans there as well. If you want to open your mind and learn about Puerto Rican History then look for and watch the documentary titled “Yo Soy Boricua, Pa’Que Tu Lo Sepas” (I am Puerto Rican, Just So You Know) by Rosie Perez and it explains the history of the Taino indians to Spains occupancy, slavery and genocide all the way to the first Puerto Ricans in New York City and the establishment of the Civil Rights activist group, the Young Bloods.

@ 18. kindanice. Yes, there’s a West Indian day parade in BK. Lotta dancing in the street, costumes, somewhat live carnival, very fun. There’s also an African American day parade in harlem. It’s more family oriented – black marching bands & drill teams, step dancing, choirs etc. You get a little bit of everybody including the black church crowd (there’s a million congregations in harlem). It’s fun as well – lots of good soul food & live.

The police are can be overly aggressive sometimes at all these parades, they same way they were this weekend at the PR parade. They arrested 190 people for allegedly being “latin kings”. Go figure?

First of all for those who have never met Fantasia, her hair is very fine she cannot use relaxer but maybe five minutes, she actually has beautiful texture of hair.
She chose to wear short hair because of its texture about 10 years ago.
For your information she had just did a matineee show of the Color purple and rushed over to the Tonys and got dressed for the Tony’s and gave that performance without any rehearsal time or even stage or sound check…Awesome!!!!!
So she will be continuing to wear her hair short until after the paly or whenever because of the wigs for eight performances a week.
Youaknow before Angel post this stuf she should tell you the truth.

I am so proud of Kobe. He bounced back nicely after everything he has gone through. People (especially our blacks) need to stop hating on him all the time. The boy is great at what he do and his family is beautiful.

Really, I haven’t heard about too much of AA or WI festivals except Junetenth.All I hear is about the PR Parade and than the Macy’s parade, not that I’m just educated I just haven’t heard of them.

Black people think racism exist in white people, but it doesn’t, it’s in the black community, maybe thats why I don’t see the need for celebrating my culture if there’s that much hate within my community.Some blacks have soo much self-hatred it shows and it’s really sick.PR’s came over here to the U.S. unified and if they weren’t unified they still support each other.CL brings out the worst in some people.Fantasia maybe not meet the standards of Hollywood, but sister got it going on.They all have it going on.That’s why I don’t see why Al Sharpton & company wasting their time trying to change sick in the head black people’s mind about their communities.

And yes they do have a black parade every year in Brooklyn called the West Indian Parade which is huge. I believe it’s even bigger than the Puerto Rican Parade…

And to all the haters…there is nothing wrong with African American celebrating with the Boricuas because like others have said we have alot in common and it’s good to support one another so kudos to Eve and Fabulous representing for the Boricuas….But I do agree they should also represent for their own people too…

I want to clear up some misconceptions I see some of the people have on here, about Puerto Ricans. Me being Puerto Rican I’m very aware that most Puerto Rican, not all, have african roots along with Taino Indian and Spanish roots. So to say that most Puerto Ricans deny having African roots is untrue. As far as my family and other Puerto Ricans I know we are very aware. Now to say we think we are better than blacks how did you come to this conclusion. I can make the same argument about African Americans because alot of African Americans are very prejudice against latinos so it goes both ways. And this is very true because I get treated very differently when I’m at a African American club and I get alot of stares and rude comments as well. But I know it’s just a few ignorant people and I don’t classify all Blacks as racist….. Nor should you classify all Puerto Ricans as racist against blacks….

So instead of getting mad at Fabulous and Eve for being at the Puerto Rican Parade you should rather be happy to see the two races uniting…I sware you complain about segregation and wanted to be treated as equal but then you want to get mad when a black person go to a latino event or if a latino go to a black event…… It’s stupid how are we ever going to have unity if ignorant blacks and latinos alike want to keep things seperated all the time….make up your minds what you want is all i have to say..
