10-year sentence thrown out in teen sex case
A judge in Monroe County, Georgia, has ruled that 21-year-old Genarlow Wilson should be released from a 10-year prison sentence for a consensual sexual encounter he had when he was 17. The original sentence had demanded Wilson be listed as a sex offender. He has been imprisoned for more than two years after his conviction for a sex act with a 15-year-old girl. In a recent interview with AP, T-pain revealed how he was down and out until he received a life changing phone call from Akon.
T-Pain, born Faheem Najm, had tried for years to make it big in the industry, producing music for others as well as performing in the rap group Nappy Headz. But, operating on aspiration alone doesn’t pay. T-Pain was broke. Luckily for him, singer and producer Akon stepped in and signed T-Pain to his label Konvict Music.
AP: Did you ever think about giving up your musical dreams?
T-Pain: Yes. The most horrible time was the day that Akon called me. He called me right when I went to get my application from McDonald’s. I was giving up. I was literally in my dad’s house renting my studio out, running it off of a generator outside. People couldn’t even record. The people who lived behind us was calling the police because of the noise ordinance because they heard the generator all day and all night. I was eating mayonnaise out of the jar. It was bad. I used to sit in front of McDonald’s and ask people for dollars to get me a cheeseburger. It was bad. Then that one day I went to go get that application. I had been hanging out in front of there so much I knew the managers and all. I had no problem getting a job or anything. I went to go get that application and that’s when Akon called me.
JUDAH, I know some folks are tired of hearing it but IMO, HIStory is the reason for the state of the black man. I have researched the writings of Willie Lynch, and after reading that, I have changed the way I mother my son. I am glad I came across that information while my son is still so young. A family member said to me the other day, out of shear habit, oh let that boy be a man! I was like he is only a boy, and I cant let him be a man! He will grow and mature into a man! His FATHER and I will guide him as he grows! IMO we do one of two things a black mothers of male children, 1. We are mad cause their daddy and our own daddy left us so we tell our boys u r MY little man or 2. We hide him under our dresses so “massa wont get him” and that is the way he lives his entire life!
While our son is young I am careful NOT to be too aggressive and loud. But I have to careful not to be too soft anf rescue him from every situation. When he is in a tight, I watch and allow him to use his critical thinking to solve his problems. If he needs my help, of course I step in. I think this helps even in his school work. He uses his own thoughts to work on the task at hand. When his daddy is mowing the grass, even when it’s hot outside, andhe momma in me wants him inside, I dont say a word. Lastnight, was my husband’s night to cook. My husband fixed my plate first,my blood sugar drops quickly, and my son was like I am hungry. My husband said ok but u have to wait just a few more minutes. Again the momma in me wanted to give him my plate. But the five minutes or less that he waited did not kill him! He learned a lesson in patience and compassion, because mommy wasnt feeling well, and not a lesson in selfishness. The children see him kiss and hug me. They hear us say how much we love each other. My husband hugs and kisses (on the cheek) all the children. Alot of men didnt get that physical affection from their daddy. Are we perfect? NOT BY A LONG SHOT!!!!! Its hard to break the cycle but u have to work at it!
@ Camdon: According to AOL.com & Cnn.com, the girl was black as were the other boys who have been acquitted or served a year and are out. Both girls the 15 year old that had oral sex with Wilson and the 17 year old girl that him and friends ran a train on.
The DA is appealing, but Wilson’s attorney is trying to get him out on bond. They need to let him go. Too harsh a punishment to say it was consensual sex and they were all teens at the time.

I feel what you saying completely and you have a valid point BUT, come on now. The boy was 17 y/o and the girl was 15 y/o, they’re only TWO years apart. Which mean they were capable of being school mates or class mates even. When I was 15 I had relations with a guy that was 17. I was in the 9th and he was in the 11th. We had no idea that this shit was a law, what average teenager knows this. Yes we all are aware that if your 18+ and you have consensual ex with someone under 18, you’ll be charged. But no one ever enforced the age 17

A bond hearing is set for July 5 to determine if Wilson can be released during the appeal process. No date has yet been set for hearings on the appeal.
They are violating this man’s sixth ammendment rights, the right to a speedy trial and due process. Which includes the appellate process.
