Then what made it so bad about the Wilson case is that at first the girl tried to say that he raped her. But after her story didn’t make sense the jury found him not guilty on the charges but found him guilty of statutory rape. but the jury didn’t know that it was a mandatory 10 yr. prison sentence in Georgie for statutory rape. That boy had a future ahead of him and everything. He was a basketball or football player one of those.

Justice in this country can be really bad, especially if your are a minority, or poor. Evidence of this can be found in the amount of people who are being released as a result of DNA testing.
I must make the poing, however, what’s bad in America as a whole, is even worse in the south. Many southern states still have on their books, primative and draconian laws, that serve the well-being of the individual, nor society. I was born when my mom was fifteen years old, my dad should have gone to jail…

There should really be some changes made in the justice system, especially in the South. They have this image of the white woman, dressed in white, pure and virginal, placed on a pedestal. The tradition has not died as of yet, as you can see in the ridiculous convictions and sentences that blacks serve. Anytime a black person is in court, they seem to have every law book in existence thrown at them. They always get the maximum sentence for crimes that other people rarely get the max sentence for.

I think all laws should be the same and equal. The US government needs to address the outdated ways of the South.

Just for the record the girl was not white. Both girls involved were 2 young black girls. You all may be getting his story mixed up with another case that had happened about a year prior to this one. It was not in the deep south of Georgia. It happened in Douglasville, GA which is about 20 minutes from Atlanta.

The girl he messed with was not white, she was a black girl. Both girls was black, the older girl said he and some other guys raped her but they dropped the charges on that. He and like 4 other guys were in jail cause they had oral sex with a 15 year old girl and they were all either 16 or 17 and they still went to jail. Three of the guys dealing with the case are still in jail.

He was hanging with a two of his friends in a hotel with two female. They film the girls giving them oral sex. Evidently the girls came home late, so one of their parent had her cry rape.
The other two I think was let out of jail for time serve after pleading guilty to lesser charge, but homeboy said that he was innocent and he wasn’t going to omit to nothing that he didn’t do. Way to stick to your true believe. But on the news, I could’ve sworn that they said that both girls were black, maybe I was mistaken.

Only one guy from this case is out of jail, the others are still in serving a 5 year sentence for pleading guilty. The judge gave Genarlow 10 plus another year for speaking what he believed.

He is not the person most of you are confusing him with-Marcus Dixon, the young guy adopted by white parents who went on Oprah. That one (Dixon) was able to get out of the sentence and is now playing college ftball.

i did two informative speeches on genarlow wilson last semester because i felt so much compassion for what he was going through. i am just overwhelmed right now and i am so happy for him. the georgia law has been changed but at that time the punishment was too severe for the “crime”. at one point it was a misdemeanor for teenagers less than 3 years apart to have sexual intercourse while it was a felony to have oral sex, in which this case genarlow was imprisoned. the girl was a year under the age of legal consent. he had a bright future ahead of him, college recruits wishing him good luck on the sats’ because they wanted him 2 play football for their school.when the law was changed he still had 2 remain in jail because the law didn’t apply to cases retroactively, it didn’t apply to current cases.but the attorney general’s office has filed a notice of appeal, which may prolong Wilson’s release. at any point i am just elated and feel that justice has FINALLY been served. and i would love to meet genarlow to let him know that i was a walking advocate for him.

I am so happy is finally being served on the Wilson case. He did not deserve anything that happened! I live in Georgia and I have been thoroughly following this case. The sex was consensual and the only crime he was guilty of was having sex with a white girl 2 years his minor. We have a law here that says it is illegal for a a girl who is 17 yrs or younger to have consensual sex with an older guy. They view this a form of being a “child predator.” Ironically, there was never any discrepancies about the sex being consensual, but the prosecutors fought hard to have this young promising boy convicted because of this old law that was never revised. Since his sentence, the law has been revised. Gnarlow coould’ve received a lesser sentence if he had just pled guilty like the others, but by doing that, he would be registered as a sex offender. He said no because he has a little sister and tht would mean he couln’t be around her nor live with her. I commend him for his stance and proclaiming his innonence; however, he has lost 2 yrs of his life. He had mant scholarships and was headed off to college. I hope he can overcome this horrid situation, but this will definitely be a tremendous burden that he has to live with for the rest of his life. See people…this is what the courts would rather do, instead of finding hard core criminals or Osama, we go after a promising individual that was guilty of no crime. sorry so long , but i had to vent!
