This unreleased song from Rihanna’s latest, “Good Girl Gone Bad” sounds like the less-depressing cousin of a hit from her previous album, “Unfaithful.” Although I’m not particularly a fan of Rihanna vocally, she does something for me. I’m not sure what it is, but she has truly solidified herself as one of the summer’s hottest artists. “Cry” could have found itself somewhere at the ballad and midtempo heavy end of Rihanna’s album, but I guess it was just lost in transition.

I’m sorry that Rihanna is included in this post twice. Not only is she everywhere in the media, now you have to hear two songs in the review. But I had to post this, considering that I’ve gotten over five billion e-mails about this song. If you’ve read CL for a while, you know that I’m a Chris Brown fan – I respect what he does. I just found this remix to be really funny. And not only that, if I got another e-mail about this song, I was going to go insane.

Another Mario snippet has leaked that I like a lot. I think it has more to do with the production than his voice, but I definitely am finding that I’m liking some of this material a lot more than the initial stuff that was leaking from his upcoming album, “Go!” It just seems like it’s a long time coming, considering that we posted his new single “How Do I Breathe” (and that video just debuted in the last couple of weeks) so long ago. Either way, glad to see his project is coming along nicely. I just hope I’m not disappointed in it like I was with “Turning Point.”

I know that I’ve posted this song before – but media contacts have been hitting up about this being the new US single. Amerie’s album, “Because I Love It” has been pushed back several times due to the lack of support for her first American single, “Take Control.” But she’s been blazing overseas, where “Because I Love It” was already released on May 15th. I don’t think “Gotta Work” is going to give her the push she needs to get this album out over in the States. I don’t know, I just don’t see where this will fit in.
amerie – nice beats but vocals are wack. her vocal range is very limited(she can’t belt),she sounds strained,almost shrieking when ever she tries to sing out of her range.
rihanna/chris brown – chris brown vocals next to rihanna vocals, really shows her vocal weakness.

^ When I said the same in the US, I meant the same song will be promoted in the US (first single) and Europe (second single), not that they’ll have the same second single.
I like The Umbrella Remix better then the original to bad they didnt think of gettin together untill after the origanal came out.
I have Amerie’s album. So I already heard Gotta Work. I love the song. Not only is the message a good one, but the song is very funky old school. Sadly, a lot of people are going to say they don’t like it, because it’s different. They’ll be looking at Amerie like, what is she doing? Too bad the fans got so use to the junk fluff that some of these artist put out, that they can’t keep and open mind for something out of the box.
Now on to Rihanna. I have her album too. With all the bonus tracks included. So I already heard Cry. Love the song, because I can relate. I wish they would have put up her bonus track Haunted. Rihanna did her thing on that one.
Chris Brown has been officially added to the list of people destined to destroy. His voice does nothin’ for me and I think he shouts like Beyoncé but with more feminine angst.
I know this comment’ll have all the GAW (Grown Ass Women) on my ass, but I had to say it.
Oh and the Rihanna song was way better before Chris Brown destroyed it.

How dies Rihanna get knocked for her singing abilities when this chick Amerie is gets a pass? She is sooo increadibly tone deaf, struggles to hit the high notes and cannot announciate her words – ever. People just like the underdog. I garuntee you if Amerie was blessed with Rihanna’s management and was slowly catupulting into stardom the way Rihanna is, everyone would be dissin’ this track. The song is nice, I just wish someone better was singing it!

Just to comment on the subject that Rihanna cant sing….Please get out there and do what she does….Then I will maybe understand what you mean if you can do it better…The girl is another talented singer who have dancing and singing wrap around her fingers…I dont get it…The talented ones always get so much criticism…

I’ve always been a fan of Mario…he’s a young dude with a great voice…no hype around him…no gimmic…just talent…I do feel as though he needs more publicity and better management but he’ll get his shine in due time.
I’ve never been a fan of Amerie’s voice…she’s a goregous girl but I think “1 Thing” was her first and last hit.
And the Umbrella Remix is poppin’. Chris Brown surprisingly added a nice touch to it. We all know RHianna doesn’t have the best vocals but she’s on her grind and people love her. The remix definitely adds to the already great song.
And besides I’m sure girls would gladly be Chris Brown’s Cinderella.
You gotta at least Amerie for trying to create a signature sound. But the producer she works with has to be a little more adventurous with the sound.
@ 147. Amerie doesn’t work with Rich Harrison anymore. and if you listen to her album, you’ll see that she has a variety of sounds: her record label just always seems to try to put out the gogo influenced tracks.
The Rihanna song is kool and she has DEFINTELY grown vocally. I love her and sometimes her performances are hit or miss. But she is only 19 and still growing. I love her cd, it is a kool summer cd that will be in heavy rotation along with Carl Thomas. Amerie is my baby, “Gotta Work” is one of my favorites and her cd is nice. Just got finished listening to it. I like that she changed up her style a bit, being to the fact that certain people took her sound. But let me stop before i am “attacked” they come out like roaches!!! I might check out Mario. Never been a fan and maybe his cd is better than Ne-Yo’s cd. I like it but it is not messing with the first cd. Chris Brown is starting to sound like Keiysha Cole-that is not a good thang. That is still my boy though lol!

I agree Chris Brown’s voice does sound strained like it was very hard for him to hit those notes…but other than that I like the remix…maybe it should have been someone else…more experienced. Why is everyone still hating on Rihanna…Rihanna’s album is Tight. Stop hating people.

well, when i first heard umbrella alone with rihanna . it was irritating and “misplaced” but then i heard the remix with chris brown and jay z, the song was A LOT better . !
And as for mario, kinda a disapointment =/ . how do i breath was so soft and rythmy . and then the other songs are like “aww”
OH COMMON, CHILLLLLL . chris brown is still quite young ! .. his voice hasnt mature and he hasnt gotten to practice&experience music compare to some top hits ! AND could you remember bow wow . i thought his voice matured like OD much . … AND as for amerie .. she sorta sounds like jlo with madd back up singers .. i get what brian is tryna say . if amerie wanna be a hit, she gotta try harder . i dont hate her song, it`ll be a nice song to hit the clubs with when everyone screaming at the top of their lungs … but otherwise its not a day to day song .
PLUS you can hear ameries voice get scratchy after she hit the high notes .
