Big up to everyone trying to improve my home land but really the sad thing is that so many africans just wont change regardless of what these celebs are doing for them, im not saying it as africa in whole but just some people in africa just wont change…and how the government is so corrupt it will only take decades for people to realize that what their doin to themselves and others is just ludacris, but i applaude these celebs for trying to make a difference and not just hopping unto the bandwagon (ie) Bush and Condoleeza

This whole “Save Africa” or “Save Darfur” movement is so contrived, lol. Other than Ali, none of these people really give a damn about anything other than themselves. He’s a holdover from a previous era when black men stood for something. The governemnt poisoned the brother and now they “celebrate” him to throw off what they did. Unfortunately, brothers like him have softened with time because they realized that the Nation of Islam was built on mythology mixed with elements of the truth.

If Europeans and caucasian Americans were really as concerned about the Africans as they act, then the solution is easy. Leave the Africans alone, leave their natural resources alone. Stop sending CIA agents into Africa to stage coups and unbalance their respective governments. Stop stealing the African children and selling them into child sex trafficking rings across the earth to benefit companies like Halliburton. Stop lying about wanting to “help the impoverished” when you really want a pretext to invade these countries in order to steal more natural resources, which is all this “Save Darfur” stuff is about. People are starving all over the world. Why not a “Save the Aborigines” or “Save the Native Americans on the reservations”? Why is the white man all of a sudden so concerned about the Africans? It doesn’t make any damn sense (at least to me).

These celebrities are so obnoxious and corny. They’re useful to the government because they’re recognizable to the public while at the same time being stupid as hell. I’m willing to bet that all the black women on these covers will either be lesbians or with the white man. The black men, other than Ali, will probably all be on the down low. Bono is in favor of globalization and population control. He’s a frontman: http://www.prisonplanet.c...august2006/080806bono.htm.
All that “love Africa” stuff is an act. You can’t work with or for Bush or Tony Blair unless you cosign on their plans. That man that Clooney interviewed with, Pat Robertson, is Illuminati. What better ambassador to use if you want to make the world think that you care when you really don’t than an actor. That whole Angelina Jolie/Brad Pitt adopt-a-child charade is a three ring circus.

Oprah, Bill and Condi are “Johnny come Lately”! Where’s Mutombo and Menute Bol? Let’s talk about the folks who been giving all their lives and who have given everything! Where’s Mother Teresa and Toby?

A great cover! Sometimes we need to remember that there are more pressing issues in the world than Paris Hilton going to jail. Kudos to Vanity Fair! Also, they need to put more African Americans on the cover, not just for one issue every 20 years!!!

@#59

I hear what your saying but this country is already overindulgent as it is. Of course we have our issues of poverty, AIDS and crime but our problems here fade in comparison to what’s going on in certain countries in Africa. While we are able to drive to any local store and BUY our water (even when we are able to retrieve it from our kitchen faucets), some people in Africa must use the same water to drink that they (and other animals) bathe in. Believe me when I say, America is spoiled rotten.

Oh … and Bush is just trying to make everyone forget about the fact that “his” war was a mistake.

PEOPLE THAT ARE ASKING WHO IS BONO. HE IS THE LEAD SINGER OF THE ROCK GROUP U2. HE’S ONLY ARTIST THAT BROUGHT SO MUCH ATTENTION WITH THE POVERTY IN AFRICA. HE ALSO WAS RESPONSIBLE THE WORLD EIGHT CONCERT ABOUT TWO YEARS. WHEN THERE EIGHT WORLD CONCERTS IN EIGHT COUNTRIES THAT BROADCASTED ALL OVER THE WORLD TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR AIDS AND POVERTY. HE ASLO STARTED THE RED CAMPAIGN WITH THE GAP. SO MUCH LUV TO HIM AND ALL HIS EFFORTS.

This is such a good look for VANITY FAIR. Especially with it being about Africa. Feels so close to home for me; can’t wait to go back and visit. You know what, all these artists are so so amazing and they have such great hearts, but Bono is just incredible. He’s a caucasian man who spends all his time going to Africa and helping out, for those who don’t know him . And he doesn’t do ANY of it for media-none of it. I love Bono, and Africa loves him too. I think it was the NAACP, where he was honored and he said this speech, and I was so touched by it. It sounded like a preach and EVERYBODY stood up and clapped afterwards because he was just so spiritual and he spoke from his heart about Africa and what God is doing with that continent. God bless his heart- God bless all their hearts. I’ll definately be picking up this issue.

This history right here. I like how Vanity Fair did it, by putting one person on a cover with the last person and then putting the same person on the cover with next and so on and so on, this will be something to collect because best believe this will be worth alot years from now. Nobody can fuck with Jay.

leaave africa alone

Thursday, June 7, 2007 /

I agree with Judah (#79)…if people really want to help us they should leave us alone! This is such a joke! The reason why ‘Africa’ never developed to begin with was that these ‘first world’ nations stole our resources and today they are still doing it through ‘neo-colonialism.’ How can you want to help us when you are still robbing us? Big thanks to all the celebrities who are making a difference in ‘Africa’ but to be quite frank why do they have to tell the whole world that they are doing it, if they are doing it for the love of people why dont they do it on the down low? They might be ‘giving us water e.t.c.’ but they are doing nothing for our self-esteems, thats right, because in the eyes of the world Africans are just poor, illiterate, corrupt fools who need to be ‘taken care of.’ Yes, you have made us charity cases and that is never a good thing to be. No country in Africa is poor, we have so many resources. Dont give us your money or ‘free trade’ or whatever’ but give us ‘fair trade.’ Take your big companies and your ‘peace corps’ or whatever they are called and your ‘policies to help us’ and get out of our countries. Give us a fair chance and we will help ourselves and you dont have to worry about parting with your money. That is all.

@Hdizzle #54
You’re right. Regardless of how late they are at least they are putting focus on the issues in Africa.

@Meat #56
3.2 million = the number of Africans estimated to have died this ”YEAR” related to the various conflicts in Africa.

6.8 million = the number of Africans estimated to have died in all the conflicts that Vanity Fair made reference to when they promoted this issue.

Don’t quite get the ”Lisa” reference. But hey, I’m happy you can add. Shows that the ”No child left behind” programs really do work.

He should not only be impeached but he should be….I ain’t even going there on the internet b/c I don’t want to get in trouble for my statements so I will hush on that one. But there are plenty of thoughts in my mind that I think we should do to Bush. Everyone who voted for Bush are dumb as hell. I guess now they see they made a mistake. If his dad wasn’t a good president, why would the son be? His dad raised him to be the same person he was. F^kin idiots!!

Was all that seriously neccessary. You sound like a bitter person. Do you live in Africa? If so, what have you done to change the problems that engulfs the African communities? You said you know the solution, why not go forth with the plan then? I mean brother you preaching all this stuff about how people are fake and phony, obnoxious and greedy (which I agree to an extent), but I dont see you doing nothing about it. Its not always These big companies fault. If Africans knew they have all these resources, they wouldnt be so f-ed up now. Instead most chose to be greedy just to make money, not really knowing they were being tricked and bamboozeld before their motherlovin’ eyes. You damn right Africa dont need our help but they’re not smart enough yet to realize how good they have it.So they need the celebrities intervention and money to have some type of relief.
PS, I love the Vanity Covers except the ones with GB and CR.

Vanity Fair cover have always been pretty nice and powerful. The cover they had during the oscar awards with the nominees, I bought that magazine because of the cover and it was actually a good issue. Whoever taking these photos for Vanity Fair need to be working for Essence and the other magazines because their covers are horrible now. Fanity fair and Bono did their thing for real. I love it. Bono and Alicia Key Oprah, Chris Rock, and Chris Tucker have been talking about trouble in Africa for years, now they getting it out there more, that we need to help our people in africa and spread the word. Publicity or not, these celebrities are doing good by do these covers and helping Africa.

SO JUDAH, what have you done to help Africa, since you’re so good at complaining? All you’re doing is critcizing people who are taking action but what exactly are YOU doing? I’m sick of people bitching about this stuff, let these people do what they can.

And what is with you and accusing Black women of being lesbians? In almost all of your comments you’re dissing Black women, calling us lesbians or whores or greedy, damn! You must be a very bitter person.

#114 Zaria ~ LMAOOO, you really told Judah! I hope he’s taking heed! Judah is a male chauvinist and racist!! His cult, “the Nation” considers women to be their servants and toilet when they need to dump stress!

Black women are beautiful, but many black men have not been taught to respect and appreciate them! They don’t know how to be a gentleman!

Just keep it short with him and you’ll be okay, because he will write you a novel, now that you have exposed more of his method of operation!

7. Djimon and Brad…both look sexy in their pic
8. Sorry…Condi is a HAM in her pic with Bono. she should have just kept her normal tight-lipped expression. not tried to pose.
9. And then there was G.W. smh. doesn’t he look like he doesn’t understand a word Condi saying to him. “it’s new-cle-er, George. Not nuke-u-lar!” smh.

I’m guessing I’ll be in the very small minority on this one, but aren’t we kinda tired of white celebrities (and some Black ones) exploiting Africa’s plight for publicity. I dunno. It just seems that if you are really sincere about your charitable deeds, you don’t need to appear on the cover of Vanity Fair for it. Do what you do b/c you love doing it. Seems like everytime I see some of these folks, they talkin bout what they doin in Africa. And it’s all the same stuff. They all talk about charity but how many of them have looked into investment loans and groups. You know, things that can make poor Africans TOTALLY INDEPENDENT of all foreign help? I guess that doesn’t appeal to them.

And the fact that GWB and Condi are on a cover just shows what a joke this is. Bush freaking called Africa COUNTRY for God’s sake!
