i agree… howevever, this new album is really something new and fresh… our culture, im sure, won’t grasp it as quick because its not a typical booty shakin talking about fancy cars and clothes and things… but its really an artistic record with Great songs… its an 80’s feel that is consistent throught and i’m very proud that she’s not afraid to step out and try new things… some favs from the album are “Crush” “Crazy Wonderful” and “Losing U”… she’s doin the damn thing…

I love my Amerie, but I gotta say she is still on her neutral phase. Nothing standing about this, but then again what could she possibly do?

This song is great, but it’s really a “warm up” compared to what Amerie can really do.

As of now, she is my favorite artist ever, and both of her CDs were great (”All I Have” is my favorite record of all time). What I love about Amerie is that she is “well-rounded” artist. She can do the pop songs, she can do the slow songs, and she can do songs like this and still sound great. She writes and co-produces many of her songs. You never know what to expect from her because she is always switching up her sound. Her music is truly artistic and definitely what an artist should be.

I’ve been hearing nothing but good things about her new album. I can’t wait to get it!

Has she decided not to try to be a star in the US cause if so she is really succeeding.

Wow…this is damn near a “1 thing” remix..I don’t like it..but shes pretty tho! She’s really pretty.. I hear shes trying to add a little “flav” to her singing style but her voice still sounds as if she sucks helium out baloons before grabbing the mic.

I understand, I would have gone with a different approach as well I would have actually picked another song (Paint Me Over) (That’s What U R) that sound nothing remotely close to Go-Go so people won’t think she’s repeating herself (like now).

I love this song!!!!! It actually has a really positive message and a good beat. Out of all the songs that Amerie has released recently, this is the best song next to One Thing.

I am not feeling this, nor the album. I am a big Amerie fan… but I feel she is missing the mark completely this time around.

Amerie is a very beautiful girl, but her music these days is blah compared to when she first came out. It’s like she still riding the coat tails of “One thing.” Give it up and switch your sound up. I’m not saying that she has to sell out to sell records, but she should give her fans relevent music instead of this outdated 60’s genre she’s trying to do.

i like the song, it has a good message to it. don’t dig the video though, wish it was something different. im tired of all the ‘green screen’ effected video, its all so boring.

4.She apparently isn’t a good writer…..according to some posters

5.There’s about 12 different producers on this album and once again NONE of them are Rich Harrison

6.Therefore…..”Gotta Work” and “Hate 2 Love U” (the two tracks on the album that adopt the “Go-Go” “Rich Harrison” style were obviously requested by Ms. Mi Marie herself like Kelis’ songs “Trilogy”, “Goodbyes”, and “Living Proof” that all sound like they could have been pulled from Pharrell and Chad’s scrotums manually)

7.Everybody doesn’t like the same things and I would just hate for her album (and career) buzz to plummet because of dissaproval.So someone needs to make a call to keep her career alive apparently…..

I actually like the video and the song. It does put you in the mind of “1 Thing” though. I agree with many others on this post, Amerie had “excellent” chemistry with Rich Harrison! I also heard that she wanted to switch producers because of Rich working with another female artist that had reportedly stolen her “sound.” In a way I can understand where she’s coming from. When she came out with her music it was different. No one else’s music had sound like hers at the time. She wanted to set herself apart from other female artists. Just like Janet Jackson had her own “sound” when she was working with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Amerie wanted her own “sound” too. I do hope she decides to work with Rich Harrison again in the future. Maybe she just wants to try something else that’s different right now.

Amerie is one of my fav artists. I like this song, if anything the energy and tempo of the song is reminiscent of ‘one thing’ but not the song itself, and I thought the video was nice. She got a little more crrunk in this video.

Ok, I have never been a fan of amerie. Yes, she does scream instead of sing. But i will give props where props are due and say that i agree that her screaming was definelty different than what was out then. I will also agreed that miss bey did in fact use, steal, copy,…..ameries style. the major difference b/w the 2 is that bey can actually (as #37 put it) belt. lol. Amerie should have put out a slow song this time just so she wont get the reverse sydrome. Yous know exactly what that is… Its when Beyonce steals another artist shit, whether it be style, credits for writing a song, etc….. and puts her spin to it and calls it her own, then ppl accuse the original artist of trying to be like her.

I love Amerie. However, I wasn’t feeling this video treatment. Why didn’t the video feature a variety of individuals overcoming everyday obstacles or “working hard” towards a goal? Also, the video could of had a treatment showing the crap people have to deal with at their jobs and how they overcome these issues. Ameire should have a contest for fans to come up with her video treatments; this is the second video from her upcoming album that leaves fans saying “What??”.

I think artist should go back to the tradition of taking three to four (or five for some artist) year breaks in between their albums. Remember when all artist use to do this? Now it just seems like the ones with common sense take this approach. When an artist does this, they tend to have more experiences to use as writing material for songs. Also, these breaks allowed more originality and creativity from the artist.
It just seems to me that these record companies are pressuring artist to produce “quickie” albums for quick dollars. As a result, the quality of music is downgraded and the artist comes off as overexposed and lackluster to the public.

I think Amerie and some other artist out there need to relax and live life. After some time off, and more life experiences to talk about, put out another album for the public to enjoy.

I am a fan of Amerie and have purchased her last two albums. I think she is beautiful and has a unique voice. However, I am still on the fence for “Because I Love It”.

Amerie is fine as hell, but this song in wack as hell, i know she can come better than that!

She is beautiful, I love her and her music, but she can come better than that. I hope she comes out with “Paint Me Over”, “When Loving You Was Easy”, or “That’s What U R”. Those are great songs.

She is a very pretty girl, this video looks like the ONE THING VIDEO… I don’t know what else to say she needs to go back in the studio and revamp herself. I feel like every female artist is trying to be Beyonce and there will never be another Bee… be orginal and that should be good enough for your FANS.

I am a huge Amerie fan, her first album was amazing. Her second album had a couple of great tracks … but this is not her best at all. I think she is just going through a phase and I hope she finds herself because all of her new material is too much for me … too much big band, shouting, sex kitten appeal … it just doesn’t seem like her to me. Seems like she is trying to hard. She has a great voice though.

even though her vocals sound faltering/strained or something strange to me occassionally on some of her tracks, i love this song. it does remind me of 1 thing, but oh well… she knows how to look fab for sure in her videos!

Also, everyone knows she has great legs but geez, she found like a million ways to show them off in every shot during this video. Am I the only one who noticed that?

Well, maybe my ears are different from yours, but I fail to see how “Gotta Work” is worse than songs like “Buy You a Drank”, “Get Me Bodied” and any other crap that’s popular now and days. This song actually shows talent and has a good meaning, but I guess America doesn’t like.

I disagree. Rihanna and Ciara are not good singers in the least, and listening to their paper-thin voices annoys me. Beyonce and Keyshia are good singers, but Keyshia Cole and Amerie sing different kind of songs, so I don’t see how they could be competition.

And for the love of God, Beyonce is NOT the ONLY female singer out right now. I am tired of seeing so many people compare just every female singer to Beyonce, and I ONLY see this online! This is not a “Beyonce vs. Amerie” battle. It is very possible to like BOTH artists. And I’m sorry, but Beyonce’s “B’Day” was crap. Beyonce is so much better than songs like “Upgrade U” and “Kitty Kat.”

I always liked Amerie. That first single, why dont we fall in love or something like that was my jam. I just think people cant relate to her right now. I mean come on, we are living in a time where chicken noodle soup won a soul train award. People just need to get real.

To everyone else who is dissing Amerie, you all need to quit it and stop bashing Amerie. You people on here are making me sick because half of you who are complaining about Amerie’s voice, are the same one’s who support that untalented island girl, and you all know who I’m talking about. Amerie is one of the fewest R&B singers of today who do real R&B music and who is really singing. When I read comments on here about that “5 headed alien” many of you say that it doesn’t matter that she can’t sing, get over it, this is how music is, she can’t sing but has hot songs and is pretty.

So why the hell when someone tries something different, puts out a positive message in songs, and is actually singing, many of you wanna clown her voice and her material? It’s one thing not to be feeling Amerie, but to all of you who support all these bubblegum artists, you don’t have the room to be complaining about how Amerie screams when she sings. Also, yes Amerie does have nice legs so why are ya’ll complaining about her showing them. It’s better than her shaking and showing her ass like that “boring and over exposed female singer” and getting naked in paint and spreading her coochie like that “island singer.”

Anyway, the video was hot. Amerie looked very classy and stylish. She is very beautiful but is also very talented. I must say that I can’t stand this song and tried to get into it, but couldn’t. Amerie can sang her ass off but these past years she’s been singing too damn high and yelling and screeching in songs. In her first album, her voice was so nice and low and her vocals were calm. I loved the production on Because I Love It. I liked what she was going for but some of the songs on the album needed to be replaced with something new and fresh. Paint Me Over aint no damn joke though. That song is simply beautiful and real R&B. I hope Amerie is reading comments from her true fans because if she wants to continue her music career over here, she needs to take the constructive criticism and come back stronger.

i miss the old amerie. this song sounds like her last single,she’s screaming all over the place and the video is BLAH…I watched the first 10 seconds then i lost intrest.

I really like Amerie and she makes good music. I will pick up her album cause it’s different. But I do see a problem with ther formula and there are two things i would change.

The first being showcasing her beauty before the music all the time. We know she looks good, got killer legs and a nice figure, but sometimes all of that can be distracting from the music. There’s no need to bring it front and center all the time.

The second would be to lay off the horns and drums. She has a nice voice and sounds good live, but she tries too hard sometimes to bring out emotions in a song. Toni Braxton, Sade and Anita baker can emote and don’t need to rely on straining vocals,

I’m a big fan of sexy ass Amerie. She s the only one who threw down for the tribute to Destiny Child(Rhianna and Tiarra were horrible). Her first two albums were hot.

The last two songs I’ve heard from her are terrible. This song songs like a jacked up version of “1 thing”. Please Amerie,if you want to save this album, don’t release thbis track.

i think that Amerie is focused on her European and Asian markets where she sells well andmakes a consistent buck. In this market (the USA) where everyone is screaming to beat beyonce and make money and are more concerned about fads images and their personal exploits and column inches in USWeekly or People magazine, Amerie just does enough to stay durrent here but enough to have relevance globally. If she did some very outrageous stuff and some skimpy dressing it would disrespect the more demure cultures she is appreciated in (ie Asian markets) and her grasp on the European markets where they appreciate more the talent than the “image” of the artist.

Not saying that in America we don’t recognize talent, but being on this post as you can read from previous posts is like trying to win over a packed crowd at the Apollo theatre in Harlem NYC

I nevea liked her from da Get go(lol) but I did like that one song she had out earlier last year or this year I cant remember and thats her problem she is not rememberable ,she looks nice but I seen betta and I heard betta .

I have the album this song is from and I must agree with what a few other posters have said: Because I Love It is much more than rehashing “1 Thing” (of which I never got the memo that the song was “hot”–I merely found it pleasant and a nice relief from the 2 minute songs Rich Harrison usually did for her when first hearing it on the Hitch soundtrack). It’s very much an excellent 80s’ r&b album and I hate that her record company is doing her the way Kelis was done by releasing songs that either sound the same as their first mega-hit or releasing a song that capitalizes on the current music trend (Bossy=the hyphy movement of 2006) and then dropping the ball for the next singles, and in the end, turning off people from really good albums.

And can I co-sign on the constant Beyonce comparisons? For so many people to resent her take-over of the music industry, the fire is fueled when everyone compares every single female singer to the woman. You’ve bought into Mathew Knowles plan!

I love this song. The message is so great and so her. And honestly i luv the video I dont care if its been done before cuz it looks hot and it wrks for her.

According to kevipod.blogspot.com this is her 2nd single in the UK. We probably won’t be hearing this much anyway.

Amerie is a very pretty girl, but I wonder how far she would have gotten if she was average looking (same goes for Rhianna) But in this video, she reminds me of alot of other people, Gabrielle Union and Ciara (when shes in the black) In my opinion, her voice is mediocre at best, and her manager/man seems like he is trying to kill her career. Not to mention the subpar dancing.

Amerie, beautiful but boring. Sound is not unique or refreshing. And luv, it is criminal to recycle your own song and expect people to go out and buy it again.

Her songs are so one dimensional and not thoroughly interesting, do you really need to hear this song three times, or is one just enough.

Also, her vocal range seems somewhat constrained, that does not mean she can’t sing, but she sounds the exact same, in the same damn key all the time.

All Amerie has going for her are looks and a decent body. That’s it. If she wasn’t so gorgeous, we would not be discussing her at all, period. If she was looking like Whoopi Goldberg and sounding like she does, she wouldn’t be discussed. Although she’s stunning, that still isn’t enough to make her a big success, for some reason. Like someone said, she doesn’t push the envelope or do anything interesting to make people notice her, she’s not hooked up with a famous celebrity boyfriend, and she releases music that just isn’t all that relateable to the masses of people and I believe that’s a big part of the problem. I also notice that the nose surgery seems to have affected the quality of her voice. It seemed better and stronger on her first CD. Since she’s so determined to repeat herself, she should repeat the formula of her first effort, when she actually displayed some vocal ability because the uptempo songs just highlight everything that is wrong with her voice. She isn’t memorable and the songs she’s putting out now are very bland and forgettable, as well. And I think this might be her last chance. Three strikes you’re out!

Boy I have been in LOVE with her since “Why can’t we fall in love” She can get it for life!

Amerie a talentless hack? Hardly, what other artists in her feild write and co-produce their material? And when did a r&b pop musician try to uplift your spirit and not there own bank account.
