“Hot Ghetto Mess” combines viewer-submitted home videos and BET-produced street interviews that the channel said in a press release are intended to challenge and inspire “viewers to improve themselves and their communities.” Yet many people can’t even understand why BET would want to air such when they run stereotypical images of African Americans on the regular everyday…
For example, one of the videos the show is licensed to run according to Fresh, is this bootyshaking contest from Jump Off TV after the cut…*NSFW*
Indeed this is a hot mess, but is BET also a hot mess for planning to run it?
Nevertheless, BET says this show’s purpose is to raise questions about the state of Black folks as a whole – just as the concept of the website. But people can’t help to wonder about BET’s true intentions…what is your opinion on the whole situation concerning the show?

Its coz we are confused as to what is bad and what is not.
The owner of the site starting a website where black people do ridiculous and or hilarious shit and ‘we’ passing it along is not bad. Shit is funny as hell and black people can be the most entertaining people in the world. We crack each other up with some of the silly and/or ridiculous shit we sometimes pull. This is normal in a race.
What is bad, is turning these funny, harmless incidents into harmful things we should be ashamed of because ‘they’ will laugh at us. What is BAD, is the owner creating the site in order to ‘expose’ our so called bad behaviour and be shamed into changing. And that was the reason why she created the site. She and us are essentially telling black people that we should not be allowed to act foolish sometimes, clown around or laugh at ourselves i.e we should not be allowed to be comfortable and just be. To breathe. We must ALL BE THE SAME and be perfect. And that the standard of perfection is to behave ‘like white’.Psychotic.
What is bad is when you have a couple of black men ( some rappers), taking an ancient African artform and turning it into something that degrades black women. There is nothing wrong with booty shaking. There is everything wrong with the manner in which it is performed today where it is purely sexual and degrading sexual. A woman reduced to nothing but a sexual plaything you can pour liquor on and toss once you done. There is something wrong with black males being taught that this is how to be a man and gain the respect of other males. That this is how to feel powerful. There is something wrong with teaching the female that this is how to gain acceptance.
Where is the website that should be shaming us for the breakdown of the black family AND HOW WE CAN FIX IT? That website would not be bad. This breakdown is the root cause of 99% of black problems. I betcha BET wouldn’t want to air that.
Where is the website that teaches black males to take control of their race AS THE HEAD of it, instead of constantly blaming black women for all the social ills of the community and (even though this is not their intention), subconciously passing on the message to the women, that they are ‘weak’.

Jesse and nem would go a long way to start forming political ties with African leaders wherever possible and solidifying those ties.Same with the Islands and make it an ongoing relationship. A marriage…. a treaty if you like passed on from leader to leader, generation to generation. Creating a policy where as a race, we are one and with time, we will be able to influence 100% of everything we do and how we are represented and represent ourselves.

I have commented on here about BET before, so there really is nothing else for me to say except: I am done with BET. I want to believe that VIACOM is the one that is making the decisions, but if Deborah Lee, or whatever her name is, is making them then she should be ashamed. We could get some up and coming folks to do something. Id like to see a travel show on bet like they had years ago. The gospel shows but not just on sundays. Scripted shows (ALL reality shows are garbage in my eyes) and that way the doors for undiscovered black actors and actresses.Kids shows. Educational shows for all ages. A show about history and people who are making history. A poetry show. The REALITY: In the future (and today) there will be fewer and fewer ‘legal’ opportunities for advancement and wealth creation — essentially, more people chase fewer resources (money, jobs).

I agree. I’m so tired of watching BET and some of its stupid programming. How many times do I have to see Baby Boy and Soul Plane. There are other good black movies out there. What about What’s Love Got to Do With It. (The movie about Tina Turner) One of the greatest black movies and it was never shown once on BET. What about Bad Boys? It’s not uplifting or anything but its more entertaining than Soul Plane and Baby Boy and all these other gangsta stupid ass movies.
BET should have gotten Wild N’ Out. That’s a good show. It’s very entertaining. Nothing degrading about it. Also Run’s House would have been a good show. Why didn’t they show Ice Cube’s Black. White show on BET? Why is the BET News only a little commercial between shows. Can’t we at least get one hour a week. There are a lot of stuff going on in the black community to fit one hour a week. What happened to Comicview. A show showcasing black comedians and they stopped showing it. It’s just a bunch of reruns. I want Comicview back. With a better host. No more Sheryl Underwood. BET should also show Boondocks. It really makes you think. All of these good other shows and HGM is all they can think of. I’d rather watch Girlfriend reruns. Baldwin Hill is so crappy. It would have been okay if their acting was up to par. But the show looks like it was recorded with a hand held camera.
If BET is gonna start an initiative to for people to vote then they should air something so that people will know where each candidate stands instead of having P. Diddy say Vote or Die
Now to play the devils advocate: Some of the shows are good. Have you seen Meet the Faith. It discusses real issues in the black community. The only problem I have with it is that it is only 30 minutes. They barely have any time to discuss anything. The hosts always has to cut someone off and the discussion never seems finished. The one hour BET News Specials are really good. But there still should be some type of nightly or weekly news. I like the fact that 106 and Park is being filmed in New Orleans right now. The fact that there is going to be another S.O.S special is really good. The Black Carpet is also a good idea. I’m tired of watching shows like the Daily 10 and Entertainment Tonight and rarely ever see any black people. So thumbs up for that! Also the show American Gangsta is really good. I like watching documentary type shows. But the only thing is that some of the youth might mistake the message of the show. Maybe the lesson that each criminal was supposed to learn should be said at the end.

I wish that Bob Johnson had used his time as HEAD BOSS of BET to develop it into a better network. This is supposed to be BLACK ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION. There should have been a well rounded scedule of programs that benefited BETS target audience. Bet gained success showing music videos but over the years it had the potential to become so much more ,and benefit our people more.
