wow we now in the 21st century and all this negativity still persists. dayuum i come from a family that is interrecial. i’m black. and ma 1st and 2nd cousins are white, some light skin latinos and some very dark. ma grandma is 1/3 white, she has very nice hazel eyes, light skin and very thin white ppl lips. I agree with GG Boo 100%. Haiti Forever- you should never, ever let someone else determine your beauty or your worth. You should always think highly of yourself no matter what. I know as a kid/teenager it’s hard to do because it was hard for me. I, as well, was teased and made fun of because I was darker and had larger features. But one day it literally dawned on me that I am just as good as anyone else and who were they to tell me anything. I developed a confidence in myself and that will do a lot for you in the dating department and in life in general. You teach people how to treat you & to respect you. But if you don’t value yourself, no one else will. I am happy that you found love with someone but you still need to address this issue especially if you plan to have kids (mixed or not). If you don’t, you will pass on this baggage to your kids and they won’t value themselves, either.

I’m a light skin young lady, i’m 1/4 Italian and my family are a bunch of Cajuns from Louisiana,i’m from New Orleans.I don’t conisder beauty by the color of people’s skin. I hate when people make comments like “she’s pretty for a dark girl”, that bothers me b/c I think people like Iman, Gabrielle Union, Angela Bassett, etc are some of the most beautiful women in the world, but so are Halle Berry, Alicia Keys, and so forth. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so everyone has their own opinions. What I’m saying is make your point but don’t put down lighter skin people along the way, b/c i had a hard time in school just like some others.

^^^^You are right. Me personally I am a dark skinned woman with real hair and black men are not interested in me. Because of my skin tone and African features I’ve been made fun of (by black girls mostly) all my life and that has traumatised me. I grew up with very low self esteem but I have learned to be proud of the skin and features God gave me. I had never had a boyfriend in my life until I turn 24 (men I was interested in didn’t care for a girl who look like me). I am currently dating a white guy I met in Law School (going on 14 months now) and I am much happier now and I know that if we end up getting married and having kids, the kids will be considered beautiful and gorgeous by society because they will be light skinned. That’s a shame, but it’s the awful truth…most importantly the kids won’t go through the pain and humiliations I went through growing up.
