I don’t know what they can’t get right. Amerie’s third album, Because I Love It has been released overseas, but can’t seem to get the steam it needs in the United States. With a couple of failed singles (and videos that have been played loosely in the States), this project just can’t seem to get released over here. But Sony Columbia is finally doing what I said to do all along – release “That’s What U R” as a single. Duh! What took them so long? Easily one of the most radio-friendly songs on her album, I’m not sure what the thought process was on this decision in the first place. I think what may confused people is that the “Take Control” video starts off with this song and the fact that most of this material is near over a year old…

I happen to like her album, because it’s different. Lord knows I get tired of all these R&B chicks looking and singing the same songs. I’m glad Amerie stepped out of the box and did an album that doesn’t sound like everything else out there. Sadly, it’s not always appreciated or accepted by the masses. But who cares, I felt I got good music. Which brings me to saying, why all the talk about record sales? Everything is image and record sales. Since when did that make the artist? I don’t get paid from that. So I don’t care if you sell 1 record or 100 million records. What matters is the music itself. Anyway, I think they should take slim thug off, and give Fabolous another verse. Now, the song has somethig extra with it, with Fab rocking on it.
They put rappers on it for a more R&B feel and made the song longer.

Amerie since her debut had an incredible global core audience. And being of part Asian origin that culture celebrates their own hard when someone who is connected them makes it large in America. Especially as we know she speaks Korean.
Much like Kelis’s album that was eleased in Europe and not here, because to break in the USA means fitting into certain fomats and a bunch of BS exclusive deals with Target, Viacom, Clear Channel, Exclusive on 106 or TRL, blah blah blah, but with other markets an artist is judged more on whether their rmusic is good or not or if dj’s are playing it (radio station are not as regulated playing the same stuff over and over).
As an example I will say “throw some D’s” would only ever be number one in the USA where as Dwele, Amerie and definitely Jonae will and have a larger market share elsewhere.
We the people that appreciate good music and ignore the “marketing” aspect of this business are a minority.
Looove “That’s What You Are”. It’s oh so sexy. I think it’ll do good over here.

This is a very nice song and I don’t know what those geniuses over at Columbia was thinking not releasing this as her first single. You should get the audience roped in with a hit song that they can sing along to and then after the success release the other singles. All this needs is a really good video and then I believe the cd will be on its way.

That song sucks, no really. I am usually in agreement with the fab three bringing us the concrete loop but this time I am sorry that song can kick rocks. If that is the best she has, scrap this album and start again. When her and that dude did the second album it was on fire, I bought two copies because I worked the first one out but this one is TRASH, sorry A. You and Mya need to get with a record label that is going to treat you like Beyonce. They sweat your ish so much that no one can tell you no, look at Rhianna, she is not the best singer and her album is filled with hits, but its about the package. She is everywhere doing it BIG! FINALLY people are starting wake up on this woman. From day one, she’s been my favorite singer, and despite me constanting trying to tell people how good she was, she kept getting ignored.
I prefer the original obviously, but Fab is okay. Slim Thug needs to disappear, however.
Hopefully this song will get the promotion it needs that can at least push the album to gold. And whoever mentioned “Crazy Wonderful” as a good second single choice, I agree. The song is different and unique, but not so much that it’ll alienate listeners.
I heard from online that four singles have been planned for this album. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but I hope so.

i don’t think its the labels fault, its hard to please the u.s market and audience, the album is still selling well overseas after almost 3 months, we’re the only one’s still sleepin’. i still have a feeling this album may end up like kelis’s, 3 singles and still no album or release date and on top of that a lot of people either downloaded the album already or ordered the import online (only $13 ).

This song is so dope. It just has that old, mellow swagger to it and her voice floats on it perfectly. I think this sound suits her.

Whoever said she is hit and miss it totally right. I liked (for a minute anyhow) Take Control, but this song is just boring. Vocally, it goes nowhere. She’s on about 2 notes the entire time. Musically, it goes nowhere. It’s like they took a banger and slowed it down. I understand that she’s doing her own thing regardless of what “they” say, but she needs to at least get her foot in the door before trying to rearrange the furniture. LOL. Regardless of how different or original an artist is trying to be, they still need that one radio/commercial track to say “Hey! Look at me!” If she could just get it right one time and put her name in the mouths of consumers, then she could be big. Unfortunately, it hasn’t happened since 1 Thing.
