FIGHTING CHANCE: THAT’S WHAT U R

Friday, July 27, 2007

I don’t know what they can’t get right. Amerie’s third album, Because I Love It has been released overseas, but can’t seem to get the steam it needs in the United States. With a couple of failed singles (and videos that have been played loosely in the States), this project just can’t seem to get released over here. But Sony Columbia is finally doing what I said to do all along - release “That’s What U R” as a single. Duh! What took them so long? Easily one of the most radio-friendly songs on her album, I’m not sure what the thought process was on this decision in the first place. I think what may confused people is that the “Take Control” video starts off with this song and the fact that most of this material is near over a year old…

Amerie feat. Fabolous & Slim Thug - That’s What U R (full) - download / alternate

We’ll see how this does. Maybe the two rap features will help it out. I’m not sure, though. Because I Love It may be the Wanderland (Kelis’s second album released only overseas) of Amerie’s career. For more info on Amerie, check out her official site, amerie.net.

Wanderland is a dope album so that’s a lot to live up to.

I learned everything I need to know about Amerie at Beyonceitis.com. From what I’ve read there, things aren’t looking to good for her.

I am big fan of Amerie. I have all of her albums to date. However, I am not feeling this version of the song with Slim Thug & Fablous. Amerie should release the original version of “That’s What You Are” to the US audience instead of this version. I think it’s sad that Columbia does not realize that this song could stand on its own in the US market without the extra rappers. Slim Thug & Fablous are just fillers who are taking the spotlight away from Amerie in the song.

I am tired of record labels throwing rappers onto R&B songs when it is not necessary. Throwing rappers onto R&B songs doesn’t make the song automatically hot. Amerie attempted this formula before with her single “Touch”, which was marketed with a feature from T.I., and it did not work. Despite, hoping for the best for Amerie, I feel that this decision might be another disaster for Amerie. I hope this version of song doesn’t make it onto the US release of the record. If it does, I’ll have to settle for the import version of the album. This is a disappointing move by Columbia for this Amerie fan.

Here we go with the Beyonce and Ciara references. Why can’t we talk about a fmale artist on their own merits, and not bring up the usuals and compare them to death. I am also very sad at the fact that people think she should compromise her artistic integrity, just to please a few people. Never ever do that. Who cares what she’s gonig to sell, or what’s hot on the radio. Stop letting this industry dictate to you what’s suppose to be hot or not. The U.S (and I’m saying this about my own country) have become very stupid and dumbed down. As music fans, you guys don’t even know what the hell you want. So I see why a lot of these artist just put out anything. Half the time y’all ask for way too much.

Amerie is definately a wack ass chick. She should have released this song a LONG TIME AGO…she needs to start using her business degree cuz singing ain’t her thang. When she first came out she was decent, but she’s gotten more wack with each preceeding album.

….Sounding like a dead cat trying to talk.

This song is fire. Fab killed it but Slim Thug should be taken off the track. This is Amerie’s first official single for the US, Take Control was a “street single” and Gotta Work wasn’t released to US radio. This should go for adds on local US radio soon though so if you like it make sure to request it. Also, the US album is slightly different from the one released in the UK so still go out and buy it..

I can’t wait for this video..

I loved this song like 5 months ago. It’s still good and I also thought it should be a released single. And yea, I haven’t heard the Fab. feat. version, but I like the original. What is it with slap-o-rapper on the track = hit record.

I hate rap and I hate when it’s mixed with rnb

It’s okaay song. Amerie is popular in the Uk for some reason though.

Gotta Work is always on the music channels and the radio, it is doing better than Take Control I think.

She needs to release ‘Losing You’ after this, it is great!

I love amerie. I don’t think she gets enough airtime honestly and maybe she needs new people because shes one of our good r&b singers we really do have.

I have to disagree with the majority here. Amerie is a creative, inventive artist who doesn’t get the credit she deserves. It sucks that she and Kelly Rowland are on a label that doesn’t put them out there like they should. Amerie definitely has crossover appeal, especially in the uk. It just sucks how the music in the us is horrible. Have you listened to the crap people produce these days? Look at what we used to create in the 70s, 80s, and early 90s? do you think music these will transcend to years later? can you honestly see yourself jamming to ‘crank dat’(mind numbing gunk) 10 years later like you do with prince, early janet and michael ,and marvin gaye? I don’t think so…..
