#36, I saw Dreamgirls and it was a good movie. I think Eddie Murphy was the best thing about Dreamgirls, but it is titled Dreamgirls it was about Effie, and how she was wronged. Jennifer Hudson looks great and much success,and yes the others were great too but the star of Dreamgirls is Effie, and she can sing I think that is why she is getting the most Attention and that is not to take away from Beyonce’, Jamie, or Eddie, however Dreamgirls is really about how Jamie’s character wronged Effie.

@#59 Im glad that I took the time to read your entire statement as opposed to bits and pieces ,because I have a better understanding of what you are trying to say.I too am happy for Jennifer Hudsons success ,but like you I feel that there are other black women in the industry equally if not more deserving .There are so many great black actresses who have been over looked by the Academy among other award show/ aside from(for us by us) shows such as BET,Essence Awards,Soultrain etc prior to Jennifer Hudson winning the Oscar! I would like to see actresses like Ruby Dee, Cicely Tyson,among other legendary beautiful black divas in the industry receive their just due. Many of these actresses have been working their azzes off , and gotten few breaks along the way .They have perfected their acting,singing skills and paid dues (along the way) , been featured in many movies ,tv shows. Jennifer Hudson is a beautiful and talented woman, and DREAM GIRLS was a break out movie for her, but it is still her first and only movie.I think that they are placing her on a pedestal too high too soon, and I hope that she is able to stay afloat when all is said and done. We all know how non black hollywood likes to pick their token “highly favored” black people and place them high.Afterall the higher the placement ,the harder the fall. They need to allow her time to grow as an artist.Its never a good idea to give anyone too much too soon.They have to earn that,and Im sorry but 1 movie isnt enough to measure her acting ability. I wanted to saY Oprah we get that its a great movie and that her performance was great esp considerign she had never acted professionally prior to DREAM GIRKS., but Uhm dont get carried away. Like other black women in the industry who came before her , Jennifer received got her first singing experience in the Church, so she has that soulfoul strong voice.

And why do you guys say she shouldn’t be endorsed by Avon just bcuz she has an Oscar? Salma Hayek promoted 3 perfumes for Avon and other celebreties as well. It’s like saying that Hally Berry shouldn’t do ads for Revlon or Beyonce for L’Oreal or Whoopi Golberg for Jenny Craig. Artists doing endorsements is nothing new.

AND inspite of my feeling of the OVER HYPE surrounding Jennifer Hudson”I still stand by that” I did say that she looks lovely in the Avon campaign! Those of you asking why she didnt secure endorsement deals with other companies such as Chanel, DIOR,etc listen up. There is nothing wrong with Avon. I dont use it as much as I did years ago but scents like “imari “are still the bomb, and yes there are many people both black and non black using Avon! Afterall they are still in business and doing well after many years in the cosmetic industry. Just because many of you are MAC Mamas or Chanel CHICKs, and DIOR Divas does not mean that Avon is irrelevant! Perhpas those other cosmetic giants did NOT offer her an edorsement deal .In the entertainment industry you have to GET IT ( the perks of success such as endorsement,etc) while Your hot ,and still riding high on that current wave of success,because pretty soon another OSCAR /GOLDENGLOBE, etc year will be upon us and no one will care about what ya did last year! In hollywood your as hot as ya latest project!
Another poster made a comment about Avon using her to get the rest of us black women to support Avon by having Jenniffer Hudson endorse a product ,that you dont think she uses or even cares for herself. To that I say this
That same thing could be said about any of these big name companies. They all seek out HOT and current celebrities to endorse their products.They know and dont care if these celebrities buy or like their product.They will still pay them big money to pretend to like it, and give it to them free to wear . That in return equals “publicity /exposure :, and $$$ for their product. Theyknow that alot of fans are very influenced by what celebrities wear and use or what we think they like, and are more likely to purchase the same thinghs if we see out favorite celeb rocking it, so one hand feeds the other. Avon isnt doing teh same thing that any other company that wants ro remain popular and attract the interest on new potentail customers would do.

I believe that she is working on the biography of Aretha Franklin and that’s why you haven’t seen as much of her. Hey, I use AVON and I am a dark black woman. If any of you ever decide to use makeup and you cannot find the correct match due to skin tone or undertones, AVON is your best bet. Believe that.

I agree with the other on BET giving her award when she didn’t earn it that was
wrong as two left shoes, I watch every show AI when J-hud was on there and
she wasn’t that good and she had this attitude on there too, I will support my
people but they are wrong for giving her something she didin’t deserved and
it turn me away from BET. It others who has work hard and should have gotten
awards and was cheated out of it, beside I saw a little 3yr singing and acting

I25 guess what they have pictures of who rocked this dress (the green JHud has on) on another post but Angel didn’t show it, I guess because it was Nicolette Sheridan who is white and she has it on in white and she is rocking it. First of all, I don’t wear Avon fragrances. To be fair to Jennifer I tested the sample in Essence yesterday, walked around and I washed it off hated it. Just doesn’t suit my metabolism. So I won’t be buying it, and I would like to say when you come to us please come correct, because many of us heard about this endorsement long ago, and it said nothing about her formulating this cologne it said she would be the spokesperson and that Avon was starting a new campaign directed towards the African American community because we have many of our own people doing their thing at high end stores and therefore you need the hype to sell your fragrances, because we have come up and it is not like it use to be with black folk and Avon and most young women Jennifers age (25 ) though she looks older don’t wear Avon fragrances? In other words it takes a long time for any vendor to formulate a fragrance and many times I know in the high end line it can be formulated for years before it is presented to the market. Thank you I was a rep for many years at Neimans Fragrance bar and was a Estee Lauder Acct rep.

I hope this venture is a success for Jennifer. In response to the one who said come correct because I too am in the retail industry high end fragrance and cosmetics and it is knowledge to those of us in the business that Avons fragrances have not been doing well, for a long time African Americans bought it even for their men, but now that we have Puffy, JLo, Baby fat etc, we have been buying more of the high end and I too like Caroles Daughters we have come up, so it is a marketing ploy to make money in the area of their fragrances which have not done as well, and you guys please know whenever any vendor does an add campaign it is to gain momentum. Jennifer has to do what she has to do, she is getting paid and it seems that all most folk care about.(By the way is anyone aware of the names of th epeople who turned this endorsement down, she was not the first choice), this add campaign has been talked abou for a while.)
To the one who asked if anyone wanted her to be a STAR what does not liking the fraggrance or the comapnay she is endorsing not wanting her to succeed, she chose to take the job it does not say anywhere that everyone would want it because she is endorsing it. I am like the other lady I don’t do Avon, I get the best with my job mostly for free anyway, and I am able to bless others as well with good stuff , and their is a difference don’t let anyone decieve you.
About the green dress I too saw the picture of the other person, who is white and I hate to say it but she did rock it, this dress looks obtrocious on Jennifer not made for her body type.
