Mel B says that her “heart dropped down to” her “gut” when Eddie Murphy demanded a DNA test to prove he fathered their daughter, Angel Iris. She told Essence magazine..
“I went to London and on my return flight I learned that he made that announcement about wanting a DNA test on that TV show. Then I saw him on the red carpet with Tracey Edmonds and that’s when I knew we were over.”
Mel – who already has an eight-year-old daughter, Phoenix Chi, with ex-husband Jimmy Gulzar – also told Essence:
“This was a completely planned pregnancy. This wasn’t some random, ‘Oops I fell over and I’m pregnant.’ I don’t live my life like that. I’m a responsible parent and have been a responsible single parent since I got divorced.”
They even met each other’s family and home schooled their kids together.
ESSENCE.com: It’s also been reported that you attended a barbecue last July, and that following August you accompanied him and his five children on a family vacation to Hawaii with your eldest daughter, Phoenix Chi. Was your purpose to bond as a blended family?
MEL B: My whole point was to introduce the kids and have them spend time together. We went on vacation with family and friends and everyone got along like a house on fire, which was lovely. My big thing is if my kid doesn’t like you or your kids then it’s a no-go. Trust me, if my daughter doesn�t like someone then I don�t like them. It’s as simple as that.

In the end, though, Brown says she wasn’t sure if her and Murphy’s lifestyles would have meshed.
“There were certain things that went on in his house with his lifestyle that I wasn’t prepared to be a part of,” she says. “I have a baby with this guy so I have to be somewhat respectful. I’ll simply say that there were lifestyle changes that he would have to make if we were going to live together and do it properly.”

Actually, I agree with alot of what Dats_Da_Truth said (minus all the F words! LOL). Mel B has to share in this blame as well because she willingly opened up her legs to Eddie and had unprotected sex. If this was “planned” and she truly believed that they were going to be together, then what was the rush to get pregnant so soon? Exactly, it wasn’t planned! I don’t believe that. Bailey – you make excellent points but I do understand Mel B’s wanting her child to know her father. So many of us black women suffer from low self esteem and end up in destructive and unhealthy relationships because we never had positive male images in our lives growing up. A woman’s development depends SO much on the role her father plays in her life. Mel B has one daughter and is a woman herself and I’m sure she knows the importance of that first love (FROM A FATHER) and she just wants her new baby to have every opportunity to grow up a confident and secure black woman who knows that love. The reason that I feel the way that I do is the simple fact is that this whole thing started when he went on tv saying that he didn’t know who’s baby it was, he started this whole thing. He know that he was screwing her so he knew it was a possibility, he should have kept his mouth shut until he knew for sure. That poor child will here how he denied her and that’s the saddest part of this whole thing.

Like somebody mentioned earlier, meeting someone’s family, bringing their child to home school with yours, plus there was an interview, a brief one where he even stated that he was in love with her, taking family vacations together, I don’t know maybe it’s me but that doesn’t sound like a booty call to me. Eddie is a smart man, I’m preety sure he knew exactly what needed to be done to prevent this and he didn’t do it. He’s a big boy. The fact of the matter is the baby is three months old. Have he seen her? That in itself tells alot.
