Michael Vick has been the recipient of ridicule and wide spread outcry for the dog fighting charges he has been hit with. If you’ve been under a rock somewhere, than you might not know about this.
Beginning on April 25, 2007, widespread media publicity was drawn by discovery of evidence of unlawful dog fighting activities at a property he owns in a rural county in southeastern Virginia. On July 17, 2007, Vick and three other men were indicted by a federal grand jury for felony and misdemeanor charges involving a 6-year long interstate dog fighting venture called “Bad Newz Kennels” and tens of thousands of dollars in gambling activities.
He went on V-103 today and spoke to Porsche Foxx about what’s been going down and why he loves his fans.

and trust me once your in a federal court house it doesn’t matter how much money u got white or black, doesn’t give you a pull 1 way or the other. my best friend which is white got a 30 year federal prison sentence for distribution of cocaine 10 kg’s to a undercover officer. another guy (black guy) around the same time got caught with 10kg’s to the same officer in my city and he got 15-20 years. so race don’t mean nothin to the federal goverment when you get indicted.
Forget all the race talk. Bottom line is, dog fighting is illegal and wrong. The things done to these dogs after the fights are cruel and sick. If the man is guilty (and it’s truly hard for me to believe he’s innocent if all of this happened at his own house), then he brought it on himself, and he should be locked up. He knew that crap was foul when he did it, there’s no way not to understand how foul that is. I have no sympathy for someone involved in that.

While i have no sympathy for Vick, I will say its quite hypocritical for people to call out dog fighting when other things like bullfighting, greyhound racing, horse/camel racing, and the use of fur are accepted (and celebrated) all over the world.

My coworkers have been talking about this all day. I’m a dog lover with a pitbull of my own who I love to death, and after hearing of all the things those dogs went through just to earn some money for piece of shit dogfighters, I felt sick and hurt because with any given change of events, my dog could have been owned by those bitchass motherfuckers. So Vick, it doesn’t matter if you didn’t fight the dogs yourself, it doesn’t matter if you’re black, if you’re guilty of having the knowledge that this ish was going on on your property, then you’re as guilty as the people who trained the dogs for hours on end, tied them up in stands so they could be raped. These dogs were killed brutally and without compassion, so if you had knowledge of that Vick, then you’re guilty 100%, and you need to pay as dearly as our justice system will allow.
It doesn’t even matter if he’s innocent though because the mere association of Vick’s name with dogfighting has pretty much fucked him up; so the damage is already done. PETA is going to be on his ass now, fans will be lost and endorsements have already been snatched back, so in the public eye he’s already guilty, and once again our culture is coming under fire for condoning this violent madness.
Vick has the Feds after him; which have a 95% success rate. Then the local authorities want to press charges and more charges may come up in August.
If he is convicted of the alleged crimes, which actually happened in 2001/2002, he might face up to 6 years in prison and a $350,000 fine. Personally, I can understand up to 3 years in prison but 6???!!!. I mean aggravated manslaughter is 10 years!..You mean to tell me that it’s almost to the equivalent of shooting someone? ..I’ve heard people getting 6 years for drugs but dogfighting? .. I bet some members of PETA wish that it was 10 years or maybe even more.

I think that we hold dogs and cats in higher regard because they are domesticated animals and have assimilated themselves into our culture as “family members” in most cases. People are also more prone to “personifiy” dogs and cats, by calling them “babies” and the like. This doesn’t happen nearly as much as other animals, though I’m sure it does exist.
That said, you DO have a point. But I’m not so sure it can be called hypocrisy. It’s just different value systems for different animals. Perhaps that’ll change someday, but like the parallels in human relations (class, race) I don’t see it happening anytime soon.

I’m from Southeast Virginia actually just miles from where Mike Vick grew up. Of course no one want to see animals tortured. But, there are so many other things that the taxpayers dollars could be used for such as the homeless, healthcare for children and bring the war to an end. The Commonwealth of Virginia does not want to see a young black man suceed. The same thing happen to Allen Iverson. This thing is bigger than Mike Vick. I dont think it’s all about him going to jail, it’s about MONEY. I hate the fact that some of these young guys with so much talent find themselves in unnecessary situations such as this. I don’t know what amazes more about the entire Vick saga. Is it the fact that this man had a sick twisted perversion in torturing animals, or people on here believing that laws in this country is set in stone or is equitable to all groups and races. I will mention just a few names, John Levy, Dick Cheney, Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan…these are a few names of people who reside above the law. The laws that many of you are preaching about is a mythical construct designed to keep you, the lower class and certain racial groups in check.
It is funny how the rich and powerful will engage in their own perversions, yet they go unscathed. I remember one of my good friends, a white man, who loved to go game hunting. This is a sport where men dress up in army fatigues and hunt for stags and elks, all for the name of sport. If you enter this man’s house, you see a collection of prized deer all hanging from his wall. Game hunting is a sport for kings and the wealthy.
To explain my point concerning man-made laws, I will bring in a more poignant example. In the 80s cocaine terrorized every aspect of American society. Cocaine was considered a drug for the wealthy and crack was the drug of choice for the poor. The draconian law made famous by Regan, essentially made the penalties for crack cocaine offenses 100 times more severe than those for powder cocaine. Why would two identical drugs carry different penalty?
Do you know why they have the distinction between white collar crime and blue collar criminals? Compared to Blue collar criminals, white-collar criminals are not more rigorously pursued. Why is that? A white collar ciminal is typically a person of respectability and high social status. Do you think it is just coincidence that a white collar criminal can extort 1000s of dollar from a company or customer and face a lesser sentencing that a blue collar criminal who robbed a liquor store for 100 dollars?
I want you people to understand that the powers that be in this country set their own laws and rules to benefit only one group. Do not be naïve. Racism is real, but in today’s society you need a sharper eye to catch it…because, it’s not so obvious any more.

I was in my bathroom one night in my apartment and I heard my neighbor being beaten by her husband. She was screaming in a foreign language and all I heard was constant slaps and banging against my wall, it was so loud that I had to close all of my doors just to hear my tv. Now, I had two choices; ignore what was going on, or try and get that woman some help. So I called the police. If I hadn’t done that, who knows what would have happened to the woman and her baby. I believe that had something happened to the woman and her child, I would be just as guilty as the assailant because I could have done something to stop it, but I didn’t. Same thing with Vick; if he knowingly let that shit go on then that must mean he thought it was ok, so he’s no less guilty than the dogfighters IMO.
I do however agree that this is the same thing as the Duke lacrosse players; but even though they were proven innocent, their image was totally ruined, and whenever someone mentions them they automatically think about that allegedly raped stripper. Guilty or innocent, Vick’s image is ruined now and he has a lot of work to do to repair it. Like I said PETA is going to be on his ass to the maximum now, regardless of his guilt or innocence.

Neither people nor dogs should fight. However that would be unrealistic because it is natural to have some competative spirit. But it is not natural for humans to pit innocent beasts against one another in their quest for more and more violence. At least in a boxing ring there are safeguards in control. The fighters are well payed and do not fight to the death. They are fighters becuase of the big money they make. I doubt if anyone would lose sleep over a dead dog. The dog gets nada. I have worked in an animal hospital for the past fifteen years and you would not believe the way that some humans torture animals. I wish that every human responsible for the inhumane death or torture of an animal could feel the same pain. And to make a sport out of it for monetary gain, oh no hes got to go. Well I for one don’t feel sorry for Michael Vick at all. He brought this all on to himself. I do feel however that the media is trying to make an example out of him because he is a black man but, he was the one who was participating in illegal activity. What gets me about this whole situation is that, because of his celebrity, some black people still want to give him a free pass. I think it’s really pathetic that people still support him after these heinous accusations.

I agree that the crime is horrible,but judging before all of the facts have been heard is criminal as well. I think Vick’s judgement has been poor sometimes. Dear Michael Vick and supporters:
If Michael Vick was on his knees right now asking God to forgive him for the years of suffering he has caused these poor, misfortunate animals, then I might be thinking differently. Instead, he is taking God’s name in vain to make himself appear pious while denying any part.
The fact that this has been made into a racial issue is wrong and way off base. Dogfighting is an evil “sport” involving greed, brutality and severe cruelty. Anyone who takes part in such a thing is guilty of exploiting these most innocent of God’s creations. You need to realize that making money off of the pain and suffering of animals is not exclusive to any race.
Someone else commented that the black race are treated worse than animals — are we still slaves? Are there choke collars and chains around our necks? Is Michael Vick being lynched or beaten? I can assure you that he will be given a fair trial with the best lawyers his money can buy.
We can rise above our past and become successful — just as Michael Vick was given the opportunity to do. But now, since he has committed such atrocities against man’s best friend, he is going to fall. And none of us can stop him. He has only himself to blame.
And shame on those of you for blindly supporting him just because he is of your same race or “good looking” or feel bad that his homeys couldn’t wait to “snitch” on him to save their own necks. George Bush hunts animals as a sport, and its not a problem. I am against dog fighting; however, I feel white america is blowing this out of proportion because he is a young black millionaire: white america’s worst nightmare.
I don’t know if anyone already said this or not but if I was millionaire I certainly could find better things to do than invest in some dog fighting ring. I’m not annoyed with him just because of the alleged inhumane treatment of dogs more than I am because of his inability to do something that save lives instead of destroy them. I’m personally a dog lover and I can’t stand any form of animal fighting because it is too gruesome and inhumane for me to stomach.
