Looks like those who protested against BET’s “HOT GHETTO MESS” made some changes, name changes that is.
BET’s provocatively titled “Hot Ghetto Mess,” which drew sharp criticism and overshadowed the rest of the cable channel’s new schedule, is getting an upbeat new name. “We Got to Do Better” is the title the series will have when it debuts, BET spokeswoman Jeanine Liburd told The Associated Press on Monday.
“We’ve decided to change the name because we want to highlight the show’s real intent, which is to offer social commentary in a context that sparks dialogue, debate, and most importantly, change,” BET said in a statement. [READ MORE]

The jury selection process in the R. Kelly child pornography case is drawing near, as attorneys for both sides reportedly presented their jury questionnaires to a Chicago judge on Friday (July 20).
According to The Chicago Tribune, Kelly (born Robert Sylvester Kelly) was present during the brief morning hearing. Judge Vincent Gaughan set the next hearing date for tomorrow (July 25) where prosecutors and defense attorneys will present him with a combined questionnaire form to be filled out by potential jurors.
Assistant State Attorney Shauna Boliker called the pre-screening process “unique in CookCounty,” but necessary because of the high-profile nature of the case. [SOURCE]

Aww man, VIBE VIXEN was starting to grow on me! Why do all the magazines that cater to young, black, and successful females go down the drain?
Less than two weeks after being named CEO of Vibe Media Group, Steve Aaron announced Vibe would fold Vibe Vixen, the female counterpart to urban music and lifestyle magazine Vibe.
Vixen will cease as a regularly published title with the August/September issue and starting in the fourth quarter, the company will begin publishing Vixen as special issues focusing on urban culture themes. The company hasn’t determined the frequency for the specials, a company rep said. Vixen also will continue to maintain a Web site.
In a press release, Aaron said there would be “some” layoffs. The rep would not make executives available for further comment.
Vixen launched in February 2005 as a twice-a-year title with a circ of 425,000 (unaudited) and upped the frequency to six times this year. Pages for the first half of 2007 totaled 147, per Publishers Information Bureau.

It doesn’t surprise me that VIBE Vixen closed. Their parent magazine is bad, and therefore this one was too.

First they took away my Honey magazine, then there was the short lived Suede. Now my Vibe Vixen. What am I supposed to do now? Who will I look to for style influence? These are the very mags that turned me on to some of the best products for my hair (Thank you Miss Jessie’s best darn curl creme period).
I’m feeling the show so far.
The name change is good but more importantly I hope that the show delivers what it says it’s intent is. That is to address issues that plague our community. Hopefully, it does that in an intelligent and open manner.
I’m sad to hear Vibe Vixen is folding I was actually getting to into that magzine I had subscribed to it. Oh, well. Maybe, one day there will come another mag for educated, professional urban young women.

Man, I really loooved Vibe Vixen. Mainly because I am one(just joking)! I especially loved the issue with Traci Ellis Ross. She a fly woman. Where can I turn to in a urban magazine that when i open the page I don’t see women with fat asses on every other page. All good things must come to an end.
I still miss Honey Magazine! That was the best and so fly!! The worst thing about that mag folding was that I had just paid for a new subscription for myself and a couple of other people as gifts. They gave no notice, no letters. To this day I haven’t heard squat about that mag.
I won’t do it again. From now on I’m going to give these new mags geared to us a couple of years to pan out before I start buying subscriptions.

Having seen the show,it is merely extra pub for the website,which,to put it mildly,makes the show look tamed.It took three name changes,not to mention public outcry,before the show took on a social theme?In the end,they should pile all the “dirty laundry” up,and burn it.Do they miss UNCUT,that bad?
