Star Jones Reynolds has avoided questions about her dramatic weight loss for years, saying only that she had undergone a medical intervention. That intervention, it turns out, was gastric bypass surgery.
Reynolds, 45, says she was “intentionally evasive” when people asked how she’d dropped 160 pounds in three years. She had gastric bypass surgery in August 2003.
She writes about her weight loss in a first-person essay in the September issue of Glamour magazine, on newsstands Aug. 7.
Everything about me was already so public (mostly my own doing — talk about dumb!), so of course everyone wanted to know what I had done. I was also terrified someone would have a tragic result after emulating me without making an informed decision with her doctor.
But the complete truth is, I was scared of what people might think of me,” she continues. “I was afraid to be vulnerable, and ashamed at not being able to get myself under control without this procedure.”
I mean all knew she had it, so this isn’t really news – but whatever. All I know is that it worked for her, because she looks great right now. She just needs to stay away from the bikini’s.

I read the entire article on glamour.com and once you read it you will understand where Star is coming from. She never really denied it, she just said a “medical intervention.” After reading her article, I have more respect for her and I applaud her for the decision she felt that she had to make. I would say read her words for yourself before judging.

I agree with #23. You may not like her as a person or the things she has done in the past. But her candor is refreshing. She actually takes responsibility for what mistakes she has made in the past. Her story mirrors many who struggle with self-worth and weight issues. Give a sista a brake, ya’ll. I think Star has learned her lesson and unlike many “celebrities”, she sounds like she is trying to be normal. So what she’s got a new show coming out? She could still be a diva about it.

Glad she finally confirmed, because we definitely already knew this. But Star learned a valuable lesson, fans don’t like being lied to, especially the fat ass ones who really wanted to know her secret cause they were hating like hell. People turned on her so quickly, and her ass hit the curb so fast, she forgot she was ever relevant. Now she’s back peddling like a mug, kissing ass to boot.
