STAR CONFIRMS THAT SHE HAD GASTRIC BYPASS

Tuesday, July 31, 2007

sjonesbt.jpg

Star Jones Reynolds has avoided questions about her dramatic weight loss for years, saying only that she had undergone a medical intervention. That intervention, it turns out, was gastric bypass surgery.

Reynolds, 45, says she was “intentionally evasive” when people asked how she’d dropped 160 pounds in three years. She had gastric bypass surgery in August 2003.

She writes about her weight loss in a first-person essay in the September issue of Glamour magazine, on newsstands Aug. 7.

Everything about me was already so public (mostly my own doing — talk about dumb!), so of course everyone wanted to know what I had done. I was also terrified someone would have a tragic result after emulating me without making an informed decision with her doctor.

But the complete truth is, I was scared of what people might think of me,” she continues. “I was afraid to be vulnerable, and ashamed at not being able to get myself under control without this procedure.”

I mean all knew she had it, so this isn’t really news - but whatever. All I know is that it worked for her, because she looks great right now. She just needs to stay away from the bikini’s.

I used to really like Star initially she was intelligent, engaging,and handled herself pretty well on the view. I really applauded her for taking control of her OWN humiliation when she announced her exodus from the view. LOL Still laffin @ Barbara’s face.

But Star started getting very cocky, and lying about her surgery was a tad bit ummm unnecessary. I mean she dont owe anybody an explanation but this back peddling she doing now is beneath her . Its making her seem desperate. I mean once you take a position stay with it all the way.

Yanno if you do the math, 160lbs over the course of 3 years is LESS than a pound a week. She needed gastric bypass surgery to lose LESS THAN A POUND A WEEK? Lazy heifa!

@67

Take control of their weight?? lol you’re joking right?

How is ballooning to 300lbs, staying there for years and all the while advertising to

the world, her aversion to diet and exercise, a demonstration of taking control of her

weight? LOL Wow. If anything it shows how sad and lazy she is. She is a weak

person. She has money, she could’ve had a team of trainers, dietitians, nutritionists.

But instead she opted for the easy way out and got a surgery. Surgery should

always be the last option for everything. So if anything white people aren’t “hating”,

if anything Star Jones just proved how most of yall will neglect and refuse to

actually go on a diet and actually exercise.

i never watched the View and supported Star when everyone else was against her. but not I am beginning to realize why people hated her. she appears too phony and calculating$$$. Star owed her fans, especially her fellow big girls, an explanation as to how she lost that much weight. She was probably planning another book,but now that is impossilbe at this stage , she is using another tactic. Go away Star, please..

Wow @83 bittersweets

Weren’t you the same person a few minutes ago on the tameka/usher post asking why people hated tameka so much (who by the way has a criminal past of lying and stealing/fraud), yet you come on here and blast Star for lying about her surgery (who basically lied cause frankly, it was nobody’s fuckin business). Damn, i mean you act like Star has committed some great sin, and tameka is an innocent lamb.

Please rethink your value system….something is amidst here.

@59 mena

I didnt say she OWED an apology, i said i accept her apology…and while she didn’t formally apologize, the releasing of this statement, which she didn’t have to do, was in my opinion, an apology to her fans who she obviously felt she owed an explanation to. I believe she’s in a space in her life where she’s fell hard, and now she has clarity and ready for a new start, and wanted to basically clear the air….

SO PLEASE, DON’T PUT WORDS IN MY MOUTH…JUST READ WHAT I WRITE AND TAKE IT FOR WHAT IT SAYS, PLEASE DON’T INFER ANYTHING. I NEVER SAID SHE’S OWED ANYONE AN APOLOGY….IF NEED BE, READ, AND RE-READ IT AGAIN IF YOU’RE NOT CLEAR ON WHAT I SAID…..

In my low voice (damn, no can’t reading people)…

Maybe her being clear about what she had will help someone else thinking about having the surgery.

I don’t see the reason 4 bypass surgery I mean yea u lose wait but u don’t lose your body fat dats why her skin looks all flabby. If you wanna lose weight do it the regular way and work out don’t do it by getting surgery.

Before ya’ll judge her, how many of you have been 309 pounds? I sure haven’t, and if I did get to that weight, I would consider weight loss surgery as well. She was morbidly obese people! Diet and exercise without medical intervention would NOT have worked, and according to the article she went to several doctors who confirmed this. Are bodies are naturally trained to hold on to weight, so losing it is extremely difficult, and nearly impossible for people at the weight/fitness level she was. Beyond the physical limitations of weight loss, imagine being over 300 pounds and going to the gym, the psychological toll that would probably take on someone. I applaud her for getting her life together, and pray that she doesn’t let the ignorance of some bring her down.

Post # 5 said it best.

Star,
People are not stupid. Everyone in the medical community knew your ass was lying right off the bat.
Everyone without a medical degree knew your ass was lying. I’m just still confused as to why you felt it necessary to lie?

THAT LADY CAN DO WHATEVER SHE NEEDS TO DO TO GET HEALTHY. IT’S ABOUT HER AND NOT THE PUBLIC. I CAN’T STAND WHEN SOME PEOPLE MAKE IT SEEM LIKE SOMEONE HAS TO PROVE A POINT OR NEED PERMISSION TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR OWN LIFE. GIRL, YOU GO ON WITH YOUR BAD SELF. YOU FEEL GOOD, LOOK GOOD AND THAT WHAT COUNTS.
