Am I the only one who doesn’t really care if she comes back? I mean, Jill Scott and Erykah Badu, do enough for my neo-soul fix. She was fierce, and to this day, no artist has outdone her as far as entertainment value, commercial hits AND substance. No, not even Ms. Keys. I too think Rohan Marley (or whatever his name is) messed Lauryn up or at least messed her head up. I think a lot of us women have let one dude mess up our heads a little bit but we bounce back. Oh my that is BS. I don’t know what is wrong with Lauryn Hill or David Chapelle, but I really believe they are hding behind excuses. They didn’t make this far without knowing how corrupt the business is. They just failed under pressure and want to blame it on the industry. There was an article about Lauryn in Rolling Stone a couple of years back (which she made them pay $30,000 for) and in it they were talking about how she was talking to this guy named Brother Anthony. This is also around the time when she made the tranformation from crazy to real crazy. Like someone said there is a fine line between brilliance and insainity. Lauryn’s problem didn’t stem from her fan’s expectations, she had some serious personal issues and people can try and write if off as much as they’s like, but she has all of the behavior of someone with some mental issues.

I agree, unplugged and some of her interviews are right on point, but she has more times where she is way out there — and it’s not about being artistic. It’s not uncommon for artistic geniuses to have some psychotic episodes.

She is talented no doubt, and I believe she is still capable of making good music, but she has children to raise — making good music should be the least of her concerns. She needs to get herself healthy and her mind right.

Yea - there will be other artists who will have breakdowns, because they are human - and people have breakdowns EVERYday. And as quiet as it’s kept, these celebrities, are people who just happen to have careers in the public eye.

it seems like Lauryn has sooo much weight on her shoulders because of what she represents in this one hit wonder climate of the industry; a real talent. A lot of artists today become ‘HOT’ off one album and video; Lloyd, Cassie, or they put out mutliple albums in a short amount of time to ‘STAY HOT’; Rihanna and the like.

but not a one has talent, maturity, intellect, substance. Lauryn has all of that. And she is the dopest MC if you ask me who was a REAL artist (and just a baby) before the industry made her a ‘pop’ artist.

Finally (yes, this diatribe DOES have an ending and besides, I got vegan rib tips to finish) what a lot of folk don’t remember is Lauryn had maaad beef over ‘Miseducations’ production. (remember it went to court) I love her and her talent. But at the time she was feeling herself (she admits to that part) and neglected to include the people who helped to create that album in the shine (she don’t admit to this though) (I heard that Lauryn engaged in ‘verbal’ ’spirtual’ aggreements…prayer even…instead of real contracts with them.(DUH!) I know several producers who gave alot in sound, feel and arrangement to the album and were credited as doing ‘drum programming’. Columbia wanted to create another Aretha so Lauryn was creditted as the producer of every damn song. Its alot for a 21-yr old to live up to especially if whats being toted as genius is really a collaborative effort. I just think she didn’t have a chance. And everyone is expecting the same magic of Miseducation when as great as it was…it was bigger than Lauryn…so i could see her going away….to recreate or rather, reveal the real person….not the icon we created.
