Really some deep stuff from her. I miss her like this.

  6. SAY NO TO DRUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. u my gurl and all but um , y u look da clown dat be krump dancin

  8. I’m confused. Are ‘artist’, ‘entertainers’ or whatever we’re calling them this week, immune from being human? From being flawed? Since when are they NOT supposed to have problems? I think it’s great that they are out there, Wiz costumes and all, with their flaws exposed. It’s damn refreshing. I am so tired of my students thinking that Beyonce is perfect. And trust when a hair (or weave track for better terms) is out of place, they rip their ‘idol’ to shreds. (And when you see Beyonce talk, she seems rehearsed, so unauthentic in her perspective…that’s why folk kept watching those old DC interviews over and over again where B is rolling her eyes and what not, cause it was not the plastic, robot we’ve become accustomed to)

No, I don’t revel in Lauryns odd behavior. But maybe it aint odd. Maybe thats who she is. A lil to the left. A lot of people wanted to blame Bobby for Whitney’s ‘odd’ behavior. But she was ALWAYS hood. Folks were surprised to find that out. Why? Because Clive Davis and his staff worked arduously for years at pitching this sweet innocent Whitney, when the Whitney my family from Newark has known has ALWAYS been a hoodchick!

Look, Im just glad Lauryn is alive and not floating face down in some river in Jamaica cause she couldn’t take it anymore. I think artist (and I have a friend who unfortunately took this route) end their lives because they realize that the person the public loves and worships is often not the person they are or become. We shouldn’t be worshipping them any damn way. If the album sux….oh well…so what…thats $15 we spent…but for the artist the expense is much higher.

(getting off soapbox and preparing for my series of lectures along side Iyanla at the mosque bbq tomorrow)

  9. (wiping vegan rib sauce off my mouth…taking a break from rehearsing my speech for Farrakhans fourth of JEW-LIE bbq/rally tomorrow)

it seems like Lauryn has sooo much weight on her shoulders because of what she represents in this one hit wonder climate of the industry; a real talent. A lot of artists today become ‘HOT’ off one album and video; Lloyd, Cassie, or they put out mutliple albums in a short amount of time to ‘STAY HOT’; Rihanna and the like.

but not a one has talent, maturity, intellect, substance. Lauryn has all of that. And she is the dopest MC if you ask me who was a REAL artist (and just a baby) before the industry made her a ‘pop’ artist.

Finally (yes, this diatribe DOES have an ending and besides, I got vegan rib tips to finish) what a lot of folk don’t remember is Lauryn had maaad beef over ‘Miseducations’ production. (remember it went to court) I love her and her talent. But at the time she was feeling herself (she admits to that part) and neglected to include the people who helped to create that album in the shine (she don’t admit to this though) (I heard that Lauryn engaged in ‘verbal’ ‘spirtual’ aggreements…prayer even…instead of real contracts with them.(DUH!) I know several producers who gave alot in sound, feel and arrangement to the album and were credited as doing ‘drum programming’. Columbia wanted to create another Aretha so Lauryn was creditted as the producer of every damn song. Its alot for a 21-yr old to live up to especially if whats being toted as genius is really a collaborative effort. I just think she didn’t have a chance. And everyone is expecting the same magic of Miseducation when as great as it was…it was bigger than Lauryn…so i could see her going away….to recreate or rather, reveal the real person….not the icon we created.

okay….I see Farrakhan and Iyanla signalling me….we’re doing a three person poem on how the lacefronts are the poison of the black community and I keep messing up the chorus…so I got to rehearse!

  10. WordBlaze, I agree 100%.

Hopefully she’ll get herself back on track.

  11. great points wordblaze.Didnt think of iut quite that way ,but you stated it well:)

  12. WordBalze you speak the truth –
…. human beings with human flaws.

  13. As much as we would like L to be the same as she was w/ the Fugees and the Miseducation, i think that we must realize that she may not…not being negative but nothing stays the same

Big Ups to her trying to work out the kinks in her life which is more important

  14. Awwww…It breaks my heart to see my girl “losing” it. (her mind that is) Hopefully she’ll fire her sylist Bozo the Clown and get it together. I love you Lauryn!!!!

  15. I’m over it…poor lauryn this and poor lauryn that…ummm..it’s been like that the past 10 yrs? Please….

  16. I have to say, WordBlaze put things in perspective for real! I keep saying that artists, entertainers, etc. all have issues, concerns, and demons just like the rest of us who DONT have money. I thought I was the only one who thought Beyonce’s interviews (as of now) are plastic-like. I mean, I can’t even relate to her, and we’re the SAME AGE!! It’s just messed up that Lauryn has allowed herself to become jaded in the music industry, I feel as if a lot of pressure was put upon her, and she didn’t know the right way to handle it, so she just snapped… I hope that she can pull things together for herself and her children, the industry shyt can come later!!!

  17. One more thing, I read the article that #57, supernovadiva mentioned in her post, and a lot of things became clear to me from there. While THE MISEDUCATION OF LAURYN HILL was a true success, (I bought the CD at least 4 times b/c people would steal it from me) it seems as if she had issues BEFORE she even went solo. The shyt with Wyclef, being in a relationship with him, wanting to show him that she could outshine him on her own, then to her issues with Rohan. It just seems that she had baggage from the beginning, and becoming a mega-star overnight didn’t help matters any.

  18. I’m Confused…what look was she going for?? That’s my gyrl and everything, but DAMN…I think she’s just as Confused as I am.

  19. @mayadoll she was with wyclef? why did i never hear of that?

@word blaze cosign 100% she has issues she needs to work out and there are ppl who still don’t realize this

  20. @Newyorker- Yeah, she was with Wyclef before and during his marriage. It says in that article that no one really knew if her first baby was ‘Clef’s or Rohan’s. And also, Wyclef’s wife knew about the affair, and that she never had any words with Lauryn, but instead cut into ‘Clef, but she knew that Lauryn was in love with him. The song “Ex-Factor” was about him…. and “Lost Ones”.

  22. @MayaDol

I think the song that shows how she really felt about wyclef is the song “Water” from the upplugged album. That is some deep/genius stuff.

  23. WHITNEY HOUSTON should take a page from LAURYN HILL’s book of life.

When times prove too difficult, & your celebrity lifestyle has to take a back seat for your CHILDREN & FAMILY (no matter how the hell long it takes) that is a real woman handling her business…&I respect Lauryn for that 100%. She has her PRIORITIES together. She did what she had to do, for the past 9 or so years.

With all the TALENT this woman has, she will do the damn thang when she is good & ready, & if “NOW” is the time….ARE WE READY?

    LOL!

  24. Lauryn is my girl and I think that she spits the ruth regarding the entertainment business, especially the recording industry. It is sad when people just want to do what they love and the industry just changes them so. She is just freeing herself from the industry that had her blinded for so long that she didn’t know how to live her life. Majority of the celebs have been through it. We hear about so many doing stupid shit and having breakdowns it’s pathetic. Go Lauryn Do You! But you need to find out whatever you did on that first album was because it was fire!!

  25. all i know is that L’s music has helped me through a lot of pain in my past and i was hoping that she would come back into the scene with a vengeance, wiping everybody out once again. but i must say that i’m confused by her get-up. what exactly is it that she’s wearing? something from the salvation army. lauryn, please save yourself from whatever it is that’s taking over your life!!!!!

  27. TYDIED

Lauryn… Please… Your job was to use the system to get your message out there. Your job was to aggravate the system from within, until the system was soo threatened that they would try to shut your lights off. Simply put you were afraid of your own voice that’s why you radically changed yourself and hid from the limelight, you did exactly what Dave Chappelle did. As soon as they gave you the shine to make a change, YOU CHANGED and abandoned the movement. The only way to make radical change at this point in the game is from within and YOU were the voice of this generation. The New Ella the new Aretha, the new Marvin and the new Bob Marley wrapped into one beautiful package. You killed me with you meltdown and your crazy antics, I wish you well in life. But dont try to justify wht you’ve become. YOU LET US DOWN. PERIOD

  28. wake up

If anyone knows the LORD JESUS. They would see clearly that when she is talking about cleaning her house she is talking about getting close and right with him. She went away to get out of the grips of the industry that was trying to turn her into something that she has never been and that is a cliche.
She stands for something more and that is what she is saying. I dont buy that she is on drugs!!!
