Check out Vibe’s newest cover model, Barack Obama. Whether you’re for or against him, you have to admit that he is a breath of fresh air. Check out this summary of his article in Vibe Magazine.
“For the first time in VIBE’s 14-year history, a political figure graces our cover,” says editor-in-chief Danyel Smith in her Editor’s Letter. “It’s time.” In the exclusive interview — by American Book Award-winning author Jeff Chang — Senator Obama and those closest to him open up about personal sacrifice, his teen years in Hawai’i, the Don Imus backlash against hip hop, and being “black enough.” The two cover images were photographed exclusively for the September JUICE issue of VIBE by renowned lensman Terry Richardson.
Pick up your copy on August 14.

Alright now…Reaching out to the hip-hop community point for you Obama!
It’s goin to be interesting to see how this election plays out…
I’ll have to admit it is a breath of fresh air to see a black man running for president-however I must admit other than headline news I haven’t done my research on him as a presidential candidate-I want to support him not just because he’s black but I have believe that he is the best candidate and going to make a huge difference in office- I’ll have to get started looking into his views and what his plans are for this country-thanks for the reminder CL
so many things to do, so little time
I just might pick up this issue & check it out. It should be interesting. LOVE the second pic (for some reason)
Barack on Vibe is a first. Can’t wait to see who is elected for the Democratic party. Obama all the way.
I heard they put lipstick on this man because his lips were to dark! And if you look at the picture to the left and then go find a picture of him, his lips are darker.
Whatever the man’s lip color is I think he’s a great candidate for the presidency, and not just because he’s black. I like his political views and values and I disagree with some as well but he and Hillary make me the most excited about this upcoming election because of what they are promising.
Whether they hold up their bargain or not is another thing but I entrust with my vote that he can and will bring about change in the White House and the world.
Thank You and Good Night.
Ohhh #6, his lips do look lighter in those pictures! If they did say his lips were too dark, that’s a shame!
It’s about time we have an important issue as a topic, besides that Usher and Eddie Murphy crap. Unfortuantely, this country is not ready for a black President, though I am glad he is running. I hate to say this but the first Black President will be assassinated with the quickness. just the way this country is.
I love Obama… Not just cause he’s black. He has a lot of great views and he wants whats best for the people, and not just himself. I think he can really change things. Obama you’ve got my vote!!!!!
@ #2 I agree…but I feel positive that either way the vote swings during the primaries the democratic nominee will take the election.
@ComplexNDope…I like the 2nd one too lol
I love Barak. I have been following him since i heard his speach at the DNC. He’s up and coming. I am not sure if he’s ready to be president yet but he’s sure got everyone’s attention and the support of some very rich and powerful people (i.e. Warren Buffet). as someone else stated he is making this election very interesting. He is the firsrt African American with REAL presidential potential. No one who has run before has ever had a chance.
I do beleive that he has a chance. But I personnal don’t beleive the democrats will win. I just don’t think america is ready for a female or an african american male in the white house. We’ve come far but not that far. However, I may be wrong! We’ll see.
IS A BLACK PREZ WHAT BLACK AMERICA STILL WANTS OR IS THE GENERAL CONSESUS THINK IT JUST DOESN’T MATTER???
I like Barrack Obama…But im voting for Hilary 08..
Barrack needs a ll bit more experience ..and I think being a vice presidential canidate to Hilary’s presidential campaign would be most beneficial in the long run..AND THEN
he should run for president after Hlary’s term is over
trust Vibe to come up with something as corny as Its Obama Time. WTF is this, WWF? smh
This is great. The YOU TUBE thing on CNN was really good, but it sparked off the whole issue about whether he has enough experience to deal with the international politics. Clinton does have a lot of experience and has been in the game for a grip. Me being in Chi I love this man and his wife and they have made real change and I hope he can make people see that on a national level. But, #8 I think you’re right. His ass’ll be right in the line of fire, but I wish him luck. I wonder where Colin Powell is on all this…
This is a good look for Vibe and Barack -
He is doing some different things in his campaign, at least trying to be more inclusive. They had a campaign where every supporter who made a donation of $5 or more between June 6th and June 13th was eligible to have Dinner with Barack.
This link shows the four supporters from all over the country were flown to Washington, DC for dinner and conversation with Barack.
Barack’s intent was to give regular people the kind of personal time that most politicians reserve for Washington lobbyists and special interests.
http://my.barackobama.com/dinner
They talk about the war in Iraq, healthcare and poverty, but they also talked about regular everyday things like– cartoons and YouTube.
I love me some Barack!!! Sure would like to taste that……..

trust Vibe to come up with something as corny as Its Obama Time. WTF is this, WWF? smh
___________
Vibe didn’t come up with that, it’s part of his campaign slogan.
WHAT IF BARRACK WAS A REAL LIFE “MANCHURIAN CANIDATE,” ‘MEMBER THAT DENZEL FLICK???
The Hip Hop community doesn’t read VIBE anymore, I think it looks cheesy….The best thing about VIBE – 20 questions
LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO @ #2′S PIC…..
Campaign endorcement or not; at least Vibe is reminding everyone to VOTE next year!
Barack Obama is EXACTLY what this country needs right now. I love Hillary, but I think, in fact, she would be a great vice president as well. With alot of our international relations in such turmoil, alot of key nations that we are engaged with now do not respect women as leaders, which would be another issue that would have to be addressed before even getting to issues that actually matter. Besides, Barack is smart as hell. He has a strong positiove conflict resolution background, he’s grounded and from what he’s demonstrated thus far in his career, he is a visionary with an in-depth insight on too many topics to name and the man be on point EVERYTIME!!
K, not to mention he IS foine!!! Barack for president!!! All day, baby, ALL DAY!!!!
I usually don’t buy magazines but it looks like I’m gonna have to go out and get me a copy of this.
~SWEETS~
@ ThinkAboutIt
Thanks for the info. Why Obama doing that then? I hate when politicians try to get down
I’m waiting for mine to come in the mail…holla!
We have to stop buying into that Black voter apathy that has been killing our people for years, this is why Bush continues to disenfranchice Black people at the polls….”we not ready for a Black President”! Don’t get it twisted, Hillary Clinton is no Bill Clinton. She is a centeralist. She prides herself that she grew up with an upperclass Republican family that used support Barry Goldwater (I learned about this on HBO). Look at her voting record, and she swings with whatever way the wind is blowing to get whatever votes she can get (Remember Hiliary in Harlem talking like she was Black, taking about they run both houses of government like a “slave plantation and that (the black crowd) knew what she was talking about”?PPPPLLEAZE HILLS-Bill would never had resorted to this at all!). She is not a candidate of conviction, thus, she still has not whole heartedly apologized for voting and supporting the war, in the UTube interview, she said that she would not stray away from U.S. Bi-Laterial diplomacy in dealing with “rogue” nations such as N. Korea, Cuba and other so called”rogue” nations. Barrack said that he would change the way U.S. Deal with most of these “rogue” nations (which most of them are people of color)! Common…I love Barrack in the simple fact that he is a man of conviction! Hiliary is keeping this “centeralist” attitude to win over the Bush/Republican candidates, because no one is supporting the G.O.P. anymore, and this is not what Liberal/Democratic people of this country want! Right now, this country is torn, and what we want right now is somebody to put our standing and respect back in the world, bring our troops home and focus on domestic poverty, social irresponsibilty (Katrina), protecting the homeland, and our foreign policy…BARACK IS THE MAN! Bill Clinton was a person who grew up with Black folks, and came from a broken home and grew up as an “Underpreviliged” white person, this is why he identifies so much with minorities, Hillary can’t pull this off, even if she tried….Don’t get it twisted…Hillary is no Bill! VOTE OBAMA!
I’m just happy to see VIBE step their game up. We contribute to more than just what’s in da good. It’s about high damn time they recognize that. Go head VIBE. Now next month, you can go back to your feature cover of Lil Boosie…..
Ay bay bay.
Awesome! ^_^
Smart men always #1 in my book
I’m a really big fan of Obama, and it’s great a black man is running for president. However, Iet’s be realistic America is not ready for a black president. If he were my husband I would fear for his safety, I would not want him to run. I would insist that my husband have security go everywhere with him for his protection.Good luck and much
success.
This is absolute career suicide. Obama should have gotten black AFTER winning the election. He’ll never win now. On the cover of VIBE magazine. What the FU–? What a dump political move.
Hillary all the way.
I am sooooo excited about this cover! I cannot wait to read it. I’ve supported him since he said he was gonna run for president! He was awesome at the CNN/YouTube Democratic debate. That man is just what this country needs. Its about time Vibe stepped thier political game up. Issues are whats important! Dont waste your vote, you gotta be informed.
Its about time Vibe steps it up lol @ the fact my mom got a little crush on him
well vibe’s bout to sell a lot of september covers arent they??
i think Obama is the breath of fresh air that our country needs, but i can’t help but fear for his safety should he be elected.
from an artistic stand point, i think that both covers are hot. i guess i’ll have to pick one up.
I am sooo happy to see all of the positive comments on Barack today. When he announced his candidacy the CL’ers weren’st as supportive.
Obama is the man and I can not wait for him to win the election!!
Woo Hoo!!
I’m still voting for Hillary, no matter how many rap videos Obama appears in.
The Hip-Hop community really needs to step up to the plate even more so now and flex its collective muscle in this election no matter what the eventual outcome might be. The reason why? The world is watching us as a people and if all of us together pushed for him to get in office, it would be a landslide! We should not underestimate our might…. especially since others know the power of the Mighty Sleeping Giant called Black America!
HE LOOKS LIKE THAT PORNO GUY…YALL KNOW WHO IM TALKING ABOUT
ANYWAY I SUPPORT HIM..
I’M SORRY, BUT, HIS NAME SOUNDS TOO MUCH LIKE “OSAMA BIN…..(YOU KNOW THE REST.) WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS…WHAT PART OF HAWAII IS HE “REALLY” FROM…..
@39 LOL!!!!!!!!!!!
I KNOW WHO YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HE DOES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think that slogan is soooooo cute!!!! What time is it??!!! It’s Obama time!!!!!!!! I like this cover for VIBE, its something different for once and it’s a political leader that I believe will lead this country in the right direction. No matter how much Obama can do for this country or no matter how promising he might come off to be, America will never let him win as President of the US, and thats so sad. They will rather have someone thats incompetent (Bush) and caucasian, than to have a leader thats competent and black. I believe they will cheat in order to have their way. But I do pray when elections come, I’m proven wrong. I still need to do some futher research on him to get more indepth about the person I plan on voting for. Other than that, GO OBAMA!!!!!!
BKCHICK, WELL PUT,
HOWEVER LETS NOT GET IT TWISTED, WHY IS OBAMA FLYING SO HIGH?, NOT CAUSE OF FOLKS LIKE ME AND YOU, NAW. ITS THE PEOPLE KEEPIN HIS CAMPAIGN AFLOAT-THE DONATERS, AKA SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS. YEAH, I AM ALL ABOUT CHANGE, AND HAVE HEARD OBAMA’S SONG, IT SOUNDS GREAT. BUT ULTIMATELY ITS HIS MAIN CONTRIBUTOR’S PERROGATIVES THAT WILL SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY.
POLITRICKS IS STILL POLITRICKS REGAURDLESS OF RACE OR GENDER.
HISTORICAL!
Gotta get my copy!!!!!!!!!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I guarantee you’ll never see any of the other Candidates on the Cover of Vibe:
WHY?
- because they’ll never risk loosing votes by being associated with the Hip Hop Community.
WAKE UP – Vote for the one who is willing to “Open Doors” for YOU!
Because I guarantee that if none of the other Candidates will!!!!!!!!!!
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose:
“IT’S TIME: FOR AMERICA TO ELECT – IT’S FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAPN PRESIDENT”
I TOOOOOOTALLLLLLYYYYY agree with Post # 13. I love Obama but I will be voting for Hillary Clinton. Obama’s 2 years in the senate is not enough to them be placed in the position of most powerful on earth. Politics is complicated and I’m sure he knows that. Our country is in too vulnerable of a position to have yet ANOTHER inexperienced President. Hillary has been in the Senate longer, on top of being in the White House for 8 years. Plus we know Bill Clinton will be in her ear.
When you look closely at both Clinton and Obama, you will find they basically have the same ideas.
Again, I love Obama but I want more experience at this point. On top of the fact that I don’t think America is truly ready for a black President, a black First Lady, and having black kids running around the White House. And I also hate to bring this into the conversation but when Bush makes a decision the majority of the country is against, his poll numbers fall. What will happen if Obama makes a decision most of the country is against? Some idiot may try to kill him for it.
I think Obama as Vice President for awhile FIRST will “soften the blow” of a black man entereing the White House as President.
But come on Poster # 44, can you really see Hillary Clinton on the cover of Vibe. Let’s face it, yes Obama is running for President but the only reason he was chosen or was even approached to be on the cover is because he is black. And I think that is the danger in making such bold moves at this point. Even on this very board, someone posted they believed Obama was the best candidate, however they admitted they didn’t know where he stood on the issues.
barack obama is most def the business
I love it. A Black man running for president and he is being taken seriously.
What would Pimp C say if he found out they put lipstick on Barack Obama in that first picture?
(I’m sorry, I had to.)
go head obama with your half kenyan self
Go Hillary!!!!!!!!!!!!
I haven’t picked up a Vibe mag since 95, but I might just get this issue.
Man, am i the only one who things Obamam is a very, very handsome man??
wit 6~hell yea they put lipstick on that man. U can tell, his lips were never pink (literally.) Iam lookin at an add above now n his lips are the color of raisins.
I am torn between Clinton and Obama hopefully as the time get closer I will chose.
# 49SOMTHIN LIKE, ” A DI#@-IN-THE-B!*^Y-A#* NI*!^,” LMAO!

I believe that Obama is truly Representing as EVERY President “Should”
I am the President of ALL the People.
The Rich & the Poor.
I think that he has choosen to do what most CANDIDATES do not have the Insight to do:
“Talk the Talk & Walk the Walk”
I have an extensive background in Politics, and believe me:
Barack is the “Only” Candidate who has decided to:
Attempt to do what is ********BEST********* for All Americans, not just one particular slice of it.
“That’s Insight.”
Furthermore: That’s Unprecedented!
We are at a time in American History where people want a Candidate who WILL –
“Do the Right Thing”
If you do not want a rotten apple: do NOT pick it out of the barrel:
Get it off the Tree!
John F. Kennedy: One of our most beloved American Presidents:
Did not come from the Barrel of “EXPERIENCE”.
He came hand-picked fresh off the tree!
And because of that (Not being spoiled by being in the barrel/pit with the others),
he had the “INSIGHT” to prosper our country, because he would not be limited to:
It CANNOT be Done!
He knew that it was possible, and showed them so.
He demanded the Immaturity of Politicians resting on their Laurels and Political Party Affiliations be thrown out the window, and:
“They get their ASSES back to working on Resolving the real problems at hand.”
And trust me: Many Politicians do Not want to see Barack coming because guess what? Playtime is over!
It’s time to work: for Real.
Every problem has a solution. It’s just that simple!
These are the people being paid to solve the prroblems, and their New Commander and Chief will demand Solutions!

If you don’t know where ANY candidate stands on the issues:
Do your research!
It’s up to you: to make an informed decision.
If you want to know what happened to Usher & Tamika’s Wedding:
what do you do?
You logon and, you start searching:
Be as adamant about your future!
Invest the time.
I agree @ 13…..Hillary is a BEAST!!
LMAO @ #49.
The debate rages on. But regardless of who Black people vote for, I’ll just be happy as hell to hear that they VOTED and that it COUNTED.
