BEYONCE, NEW FACE OF AMERICAN EXPRESS
Monday, August 6, 2007
PHOTOS: SPLASH
Above are a few candids of Beyonce filming her American Express commericial in New York City earlier today. If you didn’t know, Beyonce, 25, will be the latest celebrity spokesperson for American Express to help pitch their gold and platinum credit cards. Former representatives include Ellen DeGeneres, Tiger Woods, Kate Winslet, Robert DeNiro, and Venus Williams. The campaign is reported to be worth several millions of dollars and scheduled to launch in late 2007.
American Express is also a sponsor of the Beyonce Experience Tour. Here is what an A.E. insider told OK! Magazine,
“She’s a role model for so many young people,” says an insider. “She has tremendous cross-over appeal the same way Tiger does. She’s an inspiration for lots of people. She’s a great fit for American Express.”
You can’t even hate. Go Beyonce!

#38 everyones….thats why we see blonde weaves everywhere….thats why when women go into hair shops or workout they say “oh i wunna look like beyonce” for who?… to impress the many many men that compare ordinary females to “iconic” beyonce….now im not saying this is the case for everyone….i was speaking generally

It just goes to prove that she’s a smart business woman by adding to her endorsements because she’s and international celebrity if her singing career ended, she’ll still bring in the money.
I’ve not read all the other posts but I knew this would be turned into a hate fest.

@34 , i sort of feel you…..i think beyonce is pretty especially when her hair and makeup is on point cause it just takes her to another level. You don’t hear about beyonce out doing crazy things because she’s very conscious of her image. She should be commended and i think she’s being rewarded with all these contracts.
But, i do agree with you in one way….i mean why not Alicia Keyes? You don’t hear her out doing anything stupid, but i think her music is on a deeper level than beyonce’s and of course, we know when something is more ethnic, no matter how successful you are, you don’t get rewarded as the more mainstream cross-cultural appealing artists like beyonce with the wigs and whole diana ross type superstar thing going. Instead it seems Alicia Keys is limited to public service annoucement about aids and other concerns that has to do with largely the black community. I don’t see people throwing contracts her way….and i think she’s just as worthy as beyonce.

46. I don’t see how your opinion connected with “A” but
If everybody was deep, sat down and played a piano, and didn’t provide that over the top performance the music industry would be very boring.
We have so much going on with war, crime, & whatever personal things you are going throug in life that sometimes you just want to let go and be entertained. You wanna have snap music or “Get Me Bodied” so you can go to the club or be at home to let loose and forget all that stuff. We don’t have to hear about deep stuff or what’s going on in the world all the time especially when you are already aware of it.
You have your Tracy Chapman’s, Alicia Keys, and Corrine Bailey Rae’s and you have your over-the-top performers like Beyonce, Ciara, and Janet. If everybody was the same it would be very bland.
She and her family worked hard for what they have now and nothing was giving to them.

Beyonce is a single black woman, 25, has NO baby daddys, and very career focused.
We dont see her charged with DUIs, sleepin with every male celeb, or partying all the time and gettin drunk. She lets females know it ok to be sexy and classy, not sexy and trashy. Not too many females are willing to put their own personal goals 1st. Instead alot get lost behind tryin to follow these men.
I personally think she is a good role model for young women

I LOVE ALICIA KEYS LIKE THE NEXT PERSON BUT TRUTH BE TOLD, IT’S SUPPLY AND DEMAND. ALICIA IS NOT IN HIGH DEMAND LIKE BEYONCE THAT’S WHY SHE WASN’T OFFERED THE CONRACT.
BEYONCE HAS LOREAL, SAMSUNG, ARMANI DIAMONDS PERFUME, AND AMERICAN EXPRESS ENDORESEMENTS AS OF PRESENT. THIS IS BUSINESS, THEY KNOW BEYONCE WILL SELL A PRODUCT, LOOK WHO’S SPONSORING HER “BEYONCE EXPERIENCE.”
AT THE END OF THE DAY, IT’S A GOOD LOOK!

I’m really proud of Beyonce and her many accomplishments. It kills me how some black women dog her out. It’s not like she’s Lil’ Kim or Foxy Brown where she’s always getting into trouble with the law or Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, or Paris Hilton flashing her privates to the world and sleeping with different men. You never hear her throwing temper tantrums or acting like a spoiled diva like Jennifer Lopez. In my opinion I think she’s a positive role model. People should be applauding her for her success.Especially as black women we should be supporting her where there are so many negative images of us in America.

@55
I definitely agree with you. Beyonce is a hustler, and so is her family. I think they are relentless and they stop at nothing, and they expect the best; she’s reaping well from that core family attitude, as she should, and as anyone who fosters that same frame of thinking should. And her music has a definite place, why? Cause numbers don’t lie, even if record sales number can lie, concert ticket sales can’t. She has cemented a place for herself.
But this is what i think #34 was saying:
Remember the video that was on here a few months back, when the young girl did a documentary on the black dolls and the white dolls, well when you go into our neighborhoods, most black people don’t look like beyonce, they don’t look like halle berry, and yet these are pretty women at the height of their success; yet, most black people cannot “physically” identify with them because “stereotypically” they don’t look like your average black person, (i.e, wider noses, textured hair, thick lips)but i think #34 was saying that the world is more accepting and willing to reward people who look like halle and beyonce, rather than a lauryn hill or someone that more closely “physically” looks more ethnic (wider noses, hair texture, lip size, etc). Thats why when the girl who did the documentary asked “which was the good doll”, they all picked up the white doll, because that’s who they see successful, on tv, in movies, on a more large basis. Thank God Oprah is there to the cut it a bit, but on a larger scale, the more successful artists and the ones that reap the most rewards from WHITE AMERICA (american express, you can’t get too much whiter!) are the ones that look like beyonce. When Alicia Keys and India Arie came out TOGETHER, we all know that most of the accolades went to alicia, even though she was rockin them braides, india was rockin them locks, and that’s a hella no no if you want white mainstream america to accept you.
Beyonce and all the others that i mention deserves everything they have gotten…but i think with the “doll test” i can see why little dark skin girls in our communities hate themselves, cause they don’t see people like them, , get rewarded on a grand scale, just in bits and pieces - instead it’s only done if they have that crossover appeal. And when the halle’s and beyonce’s get rewarded, while we all still know they are black, it’s like mainstream america is sending us a message, “we’ll only ACCEPT you and validate you, if you look like this”.
I could be wrong, and #34 tell me if i was way off base, but that’s what i got from what you said.
66.

Of course i was speaking of WHEN ALICIA WAS AT THE HEIGHT OF HER SUCCESS, not now. But i think she’ll be good now, she’s taken them braides out and she has a more mainstream look now. Though i don’t know if she’ll keep that look with the release of the new album.

PUBLIC APOLOLGY, PUBLIC APOLOGY, PUBLIC APOLOGY, PUBLIC APOLOGY
Please forgive me everyone with that long as hell post. I was so quick to defend #34 in their statement, when they said they were sorry beyonce had become the standard for black beauty. I thought they meant that only people that look like beyonce get contracts like american express.
BUT, upon reading further, i see that Venus Williams (who we all know is black, look black, cant get her mixed up with no other race than black) also had the contract as well by american express.
So please disregard my posts at numbers #46 and #65. While i had points, they are not in fitting with the conversation and topic today. So sorry, please don’t jump down my throat.
At #34, sorry, i thought i knew where you were coming from, but i obviously didn’t. As you were soldier, you’ll have to defend yourself on that one.
